Metal Gear Online gets 'Race Mission' update, promises more for anniversary

It looks as though some major updates are still in the works for the Metal Gear universe. Konami's Brandon Laurino teased PlayStation.Blog readers, stating that the team still has "even more awesome stuff" to celebrate the game's one year anniversary with. What could this entail? We'll let you cook up some conspiracy theories as we count down to June.

Trophies would be nice yes, but I was just saying they aren't necessary for every game. The race add-on though looks like a fun concept and I can't wait to play it

MGS4: anniversary edition. Includes 2nd half of game to replace mass multitude of cut-scenes. Plus, MG01 game mode to satisfy all the crying vets.
Trophies would be huge. It would give me more incentive to go back and play.

If they do implement trophies, I am hoping that they stay single player related.

I still haven't even played MGO. I can't be assed to make a Konami ID.
I remember when Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence had MGO and I wanted to give it a try, but I couldn't. Now I can play it whenever I want and I just haven't bothered. :P

Creating a Konami ID is simpler than creating a PSN account. People just overreact.
Do create one, and do play MGO, it's worth it.

There's still at least 400 nightly on the main otacon lobby. Plus more and more are jumping onto the JPN-MGO wagon, which has 4000+ every night.

Wrong.
At night Otacon and Meryl are ALWAYS full at 950 players and the third server caps around 400 players. Automatching servers always have at least 300 players, and during Survival hours, 5 extra servers, all capped at 750 players are added to those.
So thats like 4000 players.

I didn't realise people still played this game. Frankly after i had played through once and dabbled in the annoying online side of things, i just ditched it and went back to GTA. If trophies were added i would most likely pick it up again ; i'm not a trophy whore, it's just that i kinda enjoy the challenge.

Me too. Played MGS4 once and lost all desire to go back.
MGO is fun but it's irritating dealing with the awkward inventory system when you know Konami could easily change the set-up to a d-pad mapping instead. This is one of the small things that certainly off puts alot casual players from picking this up (aside from being a headshot-fest that seemingly only a minority has managed to master).

I'd be excited if the stupid thing had a PROPER update system, serious the whole "bit torrent" sucks, I gave up after the two hours of waiting only to find that it had gotten to 40% and failed..Its happened on several ocassions, it just takes too damn long!

According to what I read on IGN, Konami is also bringing out this feature where a player will be selected every week to be a 'Patriot'; where you get access to Big Boss's 'The Patriot' assault pistol with unlimited ammo and no need to reload.

it's not a matter of NEEDING trophies or that the Konami ID causes cancer. It is retarded for a game that moved A LOT of people into buying a console to have such poor to no integration with it's system and community...
And also, wanting trophies for a game does not make someone a trophy-whore. I was very glad that a game like, for example, Dead Space, had trophies, it pushed me to play in ways I generally wouldn't. If MGS4 had the same to push the game into new directions, that would add replay value for a lot of players, and also bring new people in...
