VidZone brings music videos to the PS3 this summer

Remember VidZone? You probably don't, seeing as we haven't heard anything about the music video service for the PS3 since it was announced at the Leipzig Game Convention last year. It's not dead, though. The service is ready to go live this summer in the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Australia.
VidZone will be a completely free, though ad-supported, way of watching music videos on demand. It will allow you to create playlists of streaming videos either from your PS3 itself or from your PSP via remote play. The service will feature "thousands of music videos and live concert videos, as well as behind the scenes, interviews and making of footage."
There's no word on how often the service will be updated, but we would hope that more content is added on a fairly regular basis. VidZone is Europe and Australia exclusive, with seemingly no plans to bring it to the US.

This looks good but I'd much rather have the video film service like they've got in the states with HD films to rent/buy.
Popfrogs @ May 6th 2009 1:46PM
I'm not sure if you would. The video store on the PSN is very expensive. I can drive down the street and rent a DVD for a dollar from a kiosk or download the same movie for $5 from the PSN.
There's Netflix also which rents movies even cheaper, Blu-ray included. I guess if you're dying to watch a show, the DVD kiosk doesn't have it, and you're willing to wait for it to download for a few hours, it's a good choice.
slickbwoi @ May 6th 2009 10:13AM
nice to see the ps3 finally gettin some "regular" love, with Home being updated often, and the quality of the network games, it seems that the ps3 really is setting off...
and
vidzone looks to be a regular use for me, a good move by sony.
theMediaman @ May 6th 2009 10:26AM
Still no love for Canadians. Video downloads, please!
stormtrooper190 @ May 6th 2009 11:27AM

stormtrooper190 @ May 6th 2009 11:31AM

Tim Parsons @ May 6th 2009 12:46PM
first the Americans exclude us from a So-called North American service. Now the Eastern world is painting us with the same brush as those yanks. Damn we can't F'n win.
AJ_3 @ May 6th 2009 10:27AM
what is that icon between game and network?
Adrian @ May 6th 2009 10:32AM
Play TV.
bravo9zero @ May 6th 2009 10:27AM
Sounds great, Good job SCEE,
Now all we need Is the video store,
SolidSnakeX @ Jun 12th 2009 11:21PM
STYM! We Americans don't even hardly use that Movie rental service because its to damn Expensive would you pay this much to rent a movie $7.99 then Blu ray $12.99 that is Ridiculous!! I'd rather have Music Videos in HOME and to use ti watch and save on my PS3..
You Europeans have more Music then the US has..Jezz Quit Complaining!
Marc @ May 6th 2009 10:29AM
This makes alot of since not bringing this service to the U.S., why the hell would Sony do this stupid shit. I am on my third PS3 returned one and sold the other b/c the lack of games or content from Sony. I just bought my third b/c I thought Sony had finally gotten their head out of their ass, but it looks like it is still up there. If the U.S. is not the #1 market for the PS3 I know it is atleast in the top 5, and too ignore it at times makes no since at all.
sc00by_y00 @ May 6th 2009 7:28PM
Dude you got money to burn.. Send me your ps3 if your disappointed I wouldn't mind another for the living room, that would be cool.
Thanks,

Its on its way hold your breath.
Bokal @ May 7th 2009 5:29AM
Come on...
Check the euro PSN some day...
You've got Qore, video store, and better PSN offerings. If someone has to be pissed, it's us, europeans...
Yet, we only have PlayTV available here and not in the US.
samgt @ May 6th 2009 10:48AM
That is a great news, finally, VidZone is back and with great service this time! Oh by the way, it's free and we can use PSP watching music video... what else could we want? lol
samgt @ May 6th 2009 10:50AM
I might end up leaving no comment on Joqstiq for good. I'm sick and tired of having to receive an email and confirm my comment every time I post one.
Moris @ May 6th 2009 11:04AM
you wouldn't have to if you use the password provided for returning users :P
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ May 6th 2009 11:04AM
Make sure you're on 'Returning' when you comment and that you use the same email and password you used when registering... it works, honest.
C-Onor @ May 6th 2009 11:35AM
When you get the email to confirm your comment, there should also be a password in that email. Then, instead of clicking on "New Readers" whenever you want to leave a comment, click on "Returning". You can change the password if you want obviously.
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ May 6th 2009 10:35AM
remember when there was going to be a "Video" section in the PS Store, and that we'd be able to download HD Movies and TV shows?...
Man, that was some cool futuristic thinking from Sony. I hope that happens one day, maybe PS4 will have the capabilty.
Who knows...
DeathroW @ May 6th 2009 10:51AM
I don't know if you're being serious or not.. but the US already has this and we're supposed to be getting it soon.
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ May 6th 2009 11:00AM
no, i was being sarcastic...
Last i heard we were getting it in January 2009, 4 months ago...
It's not really been mentioned since the US store opened.
I wish i spoke American so i could understand all the talking in the American versions of Films.
Stupid English language...
Tim Parsons @ May 6th 2009 12:48PM
yeah same here but all I speak is Canadian and Newfinese
jarhead906 @ May 6th 2009 2:53PM
This is America and we speak American, not English.
Good day.
dark1024 @ May 9th 2009 6:13AM
@Tim Parsons
I speak is Newfinese too!! :0
str8laced510 @ May 6th 2009 10:49AM
wth not bringing it to the states? Why wouldnt they? They'd be stupid not to
helghast102 (Valkyria Chronicles and the anime OWN!) @ May 6th 2009 11:10AM
being a proud european i have to say: "suck it"
i know i know, its not fair to favour countries/continents, but with the way EU is getting shafted ALLTHETIME this is really a breath of fresh air
Khaled @ May 6th 2009 7:24PM
Helghast, I wish I could give you the video store and i get PlayTV.
Jerses @ May 6th 2009 10:50AM
i want to be happy about this but i know this will be region locked T___T sad.
Think Adrian @ May 6th 2009 11:04AM
Yes, the sueing people and putting huge constrains on media in the fight against piracy keeps the Big Guys busy from seeing that removing regions is one of the big solutions.
Orex @ May 6th 2009 10:53AM
In the next PS Update they should edit the XMB for most of the icons to show bold & Abstract like the "Music Video Vidzone" Text is showing, it looks pretty good and would jass up the interface alittle :)
iorkara @ May 6th 2009 10:57AM
Anyone notice the multi-coloured XMB in the picture? I hope this its in a future update soon :)
Think Adrian @ May 6th 2009 11:02AM
Yes! I want more animated backgrounds!
SourceJR @ May 6th 2009 11:13AM
its the background for vidzone more likely with the giant logo to the right and all.
mikael @ May 6th 2009 11:05AM
Why, oh why, do they keep making stuff region locked. Morons.
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ May 6th 2009 11:05AM
Make sure you're on 'Returning' when you comment and that you use the same email and password you used when registering... it works, honest.
isotrex @ May 6th 2009 11:06AM
wow, this is great news for the people living in europe especially that this is free but ad-supported. so i'm guessing it'll be bandwidth hogger due to streaming plus the ads. but this is great for entertainment. i hoped the quality is good though. and i wonder if it'll slow down due to traffic. well, hopefully people living in those countries will update us if it's craptastic or just pure awesome entertainment to the max.
jasper @ May 6th 2009 11:09AM
been waiting for this since last year they said jan 2009 but happy it's finally coming hope it has good often updates
Bernardo @ May 6th 2009 11:14AM
ugh so it's only in a handful of countries? what a letdown.
SourceJR @ May 6th 2009 11:17AM
yeah im hope'n you can still access it if you have a UK account or something from the US.
lolpilipino @ May 6th 2009 11:22AM
So in other words, they get what MTV was supposed to be?
Lucky European bastards.
Barry32171 @ May 6th 2009 11:37AM
Sounds great for Europe. Glad their getting some love... I wonder, however, rather than music videos, how about a bloody music store? Sony owns one of the largest, if not the largest, catalogs of music in the world, yet nothing... I still use my PSP as my MP3 player, so a music store would be awesome! Oh well, hopefully after Europe gets Vidzone going, Sony will figure the legal hurdles out, and get it here in the States as well.
jasper @ May 6th 2009 12:28PM
yes music store would be very handy
Tim Parsons @ May 6th 2009 12:50PM
@ SourceJR
It'll probably be Region Locked like the Video Service
Popfrogs @ May 6th 2009 1:49PM
Makes sense, if there are European advertisers paying money to make the service free, there's no point in them advertising to anyone outside their market.
kentuckyfried @ May 6th 2009 3:01PM
...and of course when it comes to innovative t.v. and music video services, the people in the U.S. get screwed yet again.
Jon Acheson @ May 6th 2009 6:30PM
For everyone else, there's YouTube.
Honestly, I'd probably rather use YouTube than this, even if it were available in the States.
bronty66 @ May 24th 2009 5:38AM
You say that you would rather use youtube, and that is fair enough, but there is a slight problem with using youtube here in Europe, a problem such as we are no longer allowed to watch any official videos because of a licensing argument!!!
