Want a Dissidia sequel? Better buy the first game
Dissidia, the Final Fantasy fighter, is hitting western PSPs later this year. While series spokesperson Tetsuya Nomura says a sequel would be difficult to do, another Square Enix producer thinks differently. Speaking to Final Fantasy Union, Dissidia director Takeshi Arakawa said the team would "like to make an attempt to make a sequel." However, that comes with a clause: the game must be successful when it launches in the US and Europe.
Well, there you go. If you want a sequel, you're going to have to buy the first Dissidia. Considering it's one of the most anticipated titles on the PSP right now, we're sure that's not going to be a problem for Square Enix.

Scuffles @ May 8th 2009 10:46PM
What the you better buy three of our product or we won't bother to regionalize the next one..... nah its pretty much the standard now adays =P
They already let me down by not bringing carnage heart portable to the states (well not Square directly) to be honest I think I'd be more interested in soulcaliber anyhow not to say this doesn't look like an awesome game but SC & I have a history and the only FF game I actually ever finished was 7 , I was close on 9 tho.
Roto13 @ May 10th 2009 1:44AM

I wont part cash for UMD's any more so I hope SCEE make this available in more methods than just that. If they dont I'll have to acquire it by other means.
In my region alone, UMD's for top titles cant reach as high as £30. I personally feel that's too high a price for something that is essentially a watered down PS2 game, especially considering I could buy 3 PS3 games in the platinum range for the same price.
112358 @ May 9th 2009 7:11AM
How can you NOT buy this game? XD
esposch @ May 9th 2009 9:53PM
Tell me 112358, have you ever heard of this thing called "homebrew." It's why the PSP doesn't have many good games, and the DS doesn't have many big budget ones. That being said, I want a PSP but I'm waiting for an announcement for the PSP2 @ E3.
Maxx the Slash @ May 9th 2009 1:59PM
They could just use Dissidia 1 as a base to make Dissidia 2, so I don't see why it would be difficult to make a sequel.
All they have to do is make more characters (namely Gilgamesh in a playable form). And a REAL online mode. Don't force people to buy a PS3 so they can use a feature like Ad-Hoc Party (unrelased in America and Europe, and in beta form in Japan) in order to play otherwise local Ad-Hoc games online.
Feba @ May 9th 2009 4:14PM
honestly, not enough characters I want to play. next time, toss in Prishe. THEN we talk.
cafecito @ May 9th 2009 6:36PM
Fail.
Jinsenken @ May 9th 2009 5:17PM
A sequel better fucking have Vayne.
Why the hell did they pick Gabranth over Vayne? Ultimate..POWERRRRR! *Makes angry face and becomes metal bahamut*
Darlaten @ May 9th 2009 5:42PM
Well I guess we're not going to get a sequel then given the preponderance of self-indulgent and self-deluded individuals that think its just beneath them that they actually pay for a game. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about and who I'm talking about - pirates; those people who have the adacity to think that they are not doing anything wrong. Grow up and actually buy the game.
SpiderMike @ May 9th 2009 6:00PM
"Grow up and actually buy the game"
It's not beneath anyone to pay for a title that is worth the price tag. I paid £20 for MGS4 and to purchase Crisis Core on PSP will cost me £29.99 if I were to walk to my local Game and Gamestation. Madness. The two games dont even compare yet I'm forced to pay more for an inferior product.
You could see why people may resort to piracy when they are being forced to pay for a name and not the product in the case. Digital distribution is the way forward. Japan and America have already adopted it for many of their EDI titles as well as 360, when it came to Lost and Damned, so I see no reason why SCEE can't do the same.
dgknight500 @ May 10th 2009 5:11PM
You got MGS4 on launch day for 20? Holy Jebus!!! Where do you shop?
Now, if you meant that you bought it MONTHS after release for that price, then you can't really compare them. Right now I can go to GS and buy a brand new Crisis Core for $20 and a used one for $11......
SpiderMike @ May 11th 2009 6:00AM
I thought my post made perfect sense and yes I can compare them. Crisis Core right now is £29.99, as was the price upon release. FF1 and FF2 are still ALSO at the same price as they were upon release. That is to say £24.99.
My point being Squenix games rarely drop in price as the publisher knows the brand will sell, regardless what tag they put on it.
There are bigger and better games on better systems to fork out money for than overly priced JRPG spinoffs.
cafecito @ May 9th 2009 6:37PM
I'll gladly but it but C'mon... it's been months since the japanese version came out and we don't even have a proper release date.
impulse_11 @ May 9th 2009 11:29PM
I've already played this game and i've gotta say, it's one hell of a fighting game. In my opinion, it tops soulcaliber and super smash bros. I especially love the use of the entire stage, because usually in fighting games, you get like a strip for a battle field. So far i've only seen one cg though ) :. Hopefully there will be more to come. Count me in for buying the english verision! sick and tired of japanese script -.-
there better be a sequel!
JrgPar9 @ May 10th 2009 10:59AM
I've played this game.. its so fucking amazing. Everyone has to get this game to see for yourselves.....
I can't really follow the story though.. since I don't understand japanese lol.
John @ May 10th 2009 6:51PM
I'm getting a psp later this year pretty much just for this game lol. the only reason i see someone not buying this game is if they can't afford a psp or have never heard of FF in their life.
MrXevious @ May 10th 2009 7:28PM
Dissidia is an excellent game. Well worth the purchase. Great gameplay. I'm sold on the English release.
Vaughn @ May 12th 2009 12:03PM
$40 price tag for PSP games is boo! DS games rarely go over $30.
And no pre-order bonus...I miss when they had those. srsly.
kingpig22 @ May 27th 2009 2:21AM
I'm pretty positive that dissidia will be successful in the US and EUR.
