SCEE promises changes to future Home content delivery
A Sony Europe Home community manager has posted some new information on the official SCEE forums, laying out some changes to how Home content is going to be delivered in the future. Saying what everyone else is thinking, TedTheDog states that "SCEE Home is behind the other regions in the number of Spaces we have to offer" and that the abundance of clothing and furniture in the shopping centre doesn't quite help if there's nothing to actually do in the service.
As a result, the SCEE Home team will begin to focus on developing spaces instead of cultivating shopping centre relationships. This involves getting "up to date on some of the older content that we've been missing for a while now. For example, Uncharted and Warhawk and the update to the Resident Evil 5 space." A new Production Assistant is due to start at some point soon, after which improvements will become more evident. None of this will affect the US Home team, who will continue to work independently of SCEE for ever and ever. Probably.
Finally, in terms of communicating with you, the fans, Ted wants to do away with the last-minute announcements that we've been seeing the last few months. Instead, the SCEE Home team will attempt to announce new content a week in advance. For more details check out TedTheDog's forum post for yourself.

Ugh, home may have added a couple things lately but for gods sake, home really is boring. While it maybe a larger community than the others, they attempted to take what was frosting for the others and make it a whole separate community. I don't think they realize how much effort that actually requires, nor do I think they are willing to take on that task full heartedly. I say abandon home and just keep cranking out the great titles we've been seeing lately. No matter how must wasted effort the put into home, with the games we've been seeing from them so far, who even needs home? Give me more KZ2, inFamous (which was given a 9.2 by IGN today), GOW III, U2 (uncharted not the band :P ), system updates, White Knight Chronicles, etc...

you make it sound as if the same people who are working on HOME are working on those games u mentioned.. so your complaining is kinda pointless.
Blkant @ May 12th 2009 10:52PM
Not really, if you used logic, which i understand, thats quite hard for people to come by these days, you'll realize that I meant effort in every aspect. Which the main focus being, money.

The Southern Early Childhood Association?
Why would they do anything about it?

Home is a cool concept that is currently wasted space. We need alot more unlocking of game items that can then be used in home as well as other more interesting ways to interact with other players. Also the only 3 bowling alleys for the whole planet thing is so very lame considering its a GUI and as digital space should be able to duplicate instances without problem.
Angel Mass @ May 13th 2009 12:14AM
They should make a PSP version of this

damnit its just europle...i thought it was gonna be home as a whole. i wish u could set up some type of auto update feature, where...anytime that a change is made to a space in home, it would automatically update it. a few days ago when i logged in for the first time in a while, i had to download like 10 different home spaces. and hitting the start button (i think) selected the space, clicking to download in background and repeat isn't exactly the fastest thing in the world.

There's so much that the other regions have that Europe doesn't. This caused a huge uproar last week that had Teds boss come and make a huge post to show his anger... that is the only reason why SCEE are making some changes.
Wanting this to be a global thing would simply put SCEE under even more pressure to catch up but clearly they were focused more on clothing content than game spaces etc.
The whole thing started with the StageSet the US got last Thursday. It was speculated that SCEE would also be getting that for at least a week but not one SCEE employee coming on to tell us that we weren't getting it. We didn't know until AFTER Home had updated that we weren't getting it but we did get £50 worth of new stuff to buy and no spaces.
That's why we're getting this new approach but people had to cause an uproar before they would communicate in any way, shape or form.

home has the potential to be the biggest thing since the invention of the internet. but the question is will sony devote the time and effort to make it that way.
and i also say it's so boring i almost never go on. i only go on to see if there is an update.
Angel Mass, i agree 1000% a psp version needs to happen. make a deal with yahoo to link it to YIM. then you'd need the keypad to work with the psp. hmmmmm! HINT HINT!

Kinda sucks. We have to pay more for our PS3 system and almost always get our games last - and it seems SCEE also have lest resources towards its gaming community - even though playstation is a strong brand in Europe. Knowing how well developed broadband services has become in this market region its a real shame SCEE have been down prioritized with Mr Reeves excuse "but your games have less bugs." That's an archaic way of looking on something that is a clear marketing & development problem. If this market is strong, please Sony - show it.
Also synchronized development cycles for all Playstion regions should be standard in the development community to minimize the waiting time to deliver new products to the market. Start localization early - it keeps the PR and marketing strategy closer to a build up in consumer demand. Bionic Commando is a great example of a synchronized launch - even though it has had some big delays...

I don't really use Home at all. I think they really need to do a better job of announcing events and new additions. For example the Sta Trek Q&A was an amazing idea, but they never really announced it to the general public. For big events like that they should really sent out email blasts, add a note to the Message Board, & post it on the store and blog. Instead, they keep it a secret and most people never hear about it.
Enduros @ May 13th 2009 11:38AM
Home is a failed experiment. Home is a great example of how Sony does business. It comes up with and announces a great idea, but fails to come thru by constantly pushing back release dates and watering down the final release. Sony has lost market share to Microsoft because Sony is dislexic in it's business decisions. Sony is a company that is best described as a company that doesn't know what it's left hand is doing while only paying attention to the right hand. Home is a failure. I still can't see why I should waste my time logging onto Home. Whats the point? THAT is why Sony is failing. If I have no incentive to log into Home, then why bother? Sony treats each regon differently. Thats stupid too. I'm sorry but I'm getting REAL fed up with Sony.
EgoCheck616 @ May 13th 2009 6:32PM
So you're saying that Microsoft doesn't treat each region differently? *Cough* Japan *Cough*
skinnysquirrel @ May 13th 2009 8:54PM
I would be willing to trade the Warhawk game space and the Guitar Hero game space (games I don't play). In exchange for the Star Trek uniforms and the Watchmen clothes.

I haven't tried home yet, but is it similar to second life?
I had joined but there really wasn't much to do on that either in order to stay interested for long after creating a character.
