The Watchmen are coming to Blu-ray on July 28th. The only version of the film offered on the Blu-ray disc will be the Director's Cut, which adds 28 minutes to the film's already lengthy run time. In addition to a new 190 minute cut, the Blu-ray version of Watchmen will also include a number of Blu-ray exclusive special features, such as "Maximum Movie Mode" which allows viewers to watch the movie with split-screen on-camera commentary. Two features will also be exclusive to the Blu-ray release: "Real Super Heroes, Real Vigilantes" and "Mechanics: Technologies of a Fantastic World."
Whether or not you loved or hated the film, we're glad to see Warner Bros. add more exclusive content to its BD releases. For fans of the film, the opportunity to see about half an hour more of Dr. Manhattan
in 1080p is sure to be a treat.

I liked the movie and I can most definitely see why people thought it was boring, but Alan Moore was right when he said his graphic novel was never meant to be on the silver screen. I read the book and it was fantastic, but there were so many missed opportunities that only the graphic novel could explain (metaphors, imagery, diaries, etc).

It is not different than the novel, whoever says this movie is not loyal to novel is an idiot. Friggen read the script that the movie was suppose to follow and be amazed.
This is awesome though, can't wait! I loved the film, best hero movie ever.

It's not so much that it is different, in terms of plot, than the graphic novel (which it is) it is different in terms of delivery, symbolism and meaning (which the movie really just glazed over 2-3 of the graphic novels biggest points IMO).
So, I would say the two are very, VERY different. Non purchase for me.

Ending is more or less the same conceptually, but the details of it have changed. I didn't mind the details change (however odd it was), but the movie really didn't do the most important parts of the ending any justice IMO.

I'm not trying to find something wrong with the movie, I am just saying it is different. The movie is entertaining and a psuedo-action flick, the graphic novel, IMO, is more of a reflection on life, humanity, the human condition, and the human psyche.
It would be like if someone did a cover of a song that had lyrics that made the song an anti-war statement and the artist covering changed the anti-war statements to be about bar fights and kicking ass. Sure the song would probably sound the same, but it wouldn't be the same song and would lose all meaning.

The movie is entertaining and a quasi-action flick. Not a bad movie. The graphic novel was more about humanity, the human psyche, life, the immutability of time and human nature IMO. The movie had the same characters and plot, but plot isn't what makes a good piece of literature.
It's like if somewhat wrote a song that had cool melodies and sounded good but also had lyrics which made it powerful, like an anti-war song from the 60s or 70s. Let's say someone made a cover of the song but instead of all the anti-war parts, instead made it about...dunno....bar fights. Melody and music all remains the same but the lyrics change. The cover would totally miss the point and would not be "the same thing."
The movie isn't bad, the movie is just different and not something I want.

Ok - so it is not in the movie. So that means the entire movie is nothing like the novel? The original script took place in 2003, instead of the Vietnam war it is the Iraq war and featured Night Owl killing Ozy with Archie and then ends with Rorschach and Night Owl in an alternate universe fighting off "thugs". Yea, I think Zack Snyder saved this movie very well.

Sorry, but the end is quite a bit different.
The complete lack of the Black Freighter makes the motivations of certain characters unclear to those not familiar with the material.
The film is lacking.

Don't forget to mention, though, that the Director's Cut Blu-ray will have BD-Live, but instead of just chatting with other people over BD-Live, you will be able to chat with EVERYONE on Facebook. The concept alone almost makes the Blu-ray release look very appealing. (Though it is a very good movie.)

Anyone who hasn't seen this movie, GO SEE IT NOWWWW!
IMO its a great movie. The storyline is a bit confusing at first, but in the end everything comes together. When i went to see it again i realized things about the movie i didn't get the first time.
Go WARNER BROTHERS!!! Fuel those Blue Ray Disks :)

The Black Freighter Blu-ray is a motion comic adaptation of that part of the graphic novel.
You can also get the motion comic version of Watchmen on blu-ray right now.

i heard the 28 extra minutes were actually gonna be the 'tales from the black freighter' short that they released seperately after the motion comic came out implemented into the appropriate parts of the movie where the story cut in in the original novel.

Actually that will be a later double dip "ultimate director's cut" that will feature the 190 minute director's cut plus Black Freighter. That will be out closer to the holidays according to Zack Snyder.

I never read the novel but I did see the movie and found it incredibly boring. Naked men crying should never be in a movie. In fact naked men shouldn't be in any movie for that matter.

Really? No cheap-ass Japanese 12fps animation interspersed with a 150MM picture ... you know, if you want to see animated mixed with real life, why not just run down the street in a pink bunny costume. Oh the Mariner is a ghost? Well stick a white blanket over the bunny ... that'll have the same effect.
