Unbound Saga bound for July 16, unbound from UMD

Vogster just announced that its comic book inspired beat-'em-up Unbound Saga is hitting (ow!) exclusively via the PlayStation Store on July 16, bypassing UMD altogether. THWAD! In fact, Mario Kroll, Vogster's director of marketing, called UMD "an unpopular delivery medium." DOUBLE-THAWD! Check out our hands-on New York Comic-Con impressions of the game, which, at the time, didn't really strike us (ow!) as all-that great.

DOUBLE-'THAWD'? Is this different than a 'THWAD'?

There are plenty of us that like the UMD just fine. Let's see how well the PSN does delivering your game no one has heard of until now. GL w/ that.

Another PSN exclusive?
Looks like these developers don't want my moneyz
Traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 15th 2009 5:15PM
I'm confused. You are bashing PSN, yet you have a killzone avatar. Anyways, that was an extremely stupid, uninformed comment.
Traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 15th 2009 5:15PM
Oh, nevermind. I read your statement wrong. I didn't see that you said "my moneyz" I thought it was just "moneyz". I'm on an iPhone.

Yea I dont like digital games
I want a UMD since I actually feel like I own the game and I can add it on my self
Black Mage @ May 15th 2009 7:26PM
I understand where you're coming from I like being able to have a UMD and feel like I own it too, but the only problem I had with UMD games was trying to find them after they came out. Unless you pre-ordered a PSP game odds of finding it where I live where slim to none.
So I guess I'm a little pro digital distribution, but a little against it too.
DarkAssaszin @ May 15th 2009 8:01PM
oooops i made a grammer mistake where it says "I can add it on my self" I mean
"I can add it on my shelf"
JDHexen @ May 15th 2009 8:33PM
You don't see anyone carrying CD's with their CD players around anymore so why should we carry umd's around.Digital distribution is great but since some people don't like it then they should just keep both options open just so they don't piss off some people.
chimaera9 @ May 15th 2009 7:14PM
I like digital delivery, but it doesn't feel like they're considering that we basically have to physically package the game itself when it's not on UMD. Pro Duo Flash Memory cards are still not very cheap, and these games are large enough that having more than a few on one card mandates another card purchase, which can run anywhere from $30 (2 GB), to $60 (4 GB). Considering the cost of storage, they'd better be shaving that off the price of the game, or people just aren't going to adopt digital purchases as quickly. Let's hope the new, rumored, all-flash-memory PSP2 has a huge amount of storage space. If so, then I'm all for digital delivery of games. Until then, let's see either the price of the games or the memory cards fall to a fair range.

Hmm, it may be irrational, but I'm not just not into something that you don't actually own, can't resell, etc..
/clutches imported Patapon 2 UMD protectively

In my opinion, the best reason to have games on a physical medium is so that if you don't like the game or get bored of it, you can sell it or trade it. I would have given this game a shot if it came on UMD (it kind of reminds me of Comix Zone) because I'd have the option of reselling it if it sucked. Now i'll just forget about it and play my other games instead.
maskedrose @ May 16th 2009 12:19AM
Humph.
I like UMDs... I enjoy a hard copy in exchange for my money - I work too hard to buy air. Art work. Box. Disc. Keep it that way.
And as for the rumored PSP2 with digital downloading only
Keep it Sony.
Again.
Art work. Box. Disc.
Maybe I'm old school - but I like my investments to remain investments. Show em off on a cd rack.. re-sell em if it sucks or I need some money.. trade em.. lend em to friends(and borrow in return)

"You don't see anyone carrying CD's with their CD players around anymore so why should we carry umd's around"
Should we jump off a bridge if everyone else is doing it?
and I do see people with cd players... and even tape players.
Hell.
People still buy RECORDS.

UMD was a failure since the beginning, it was killing psp. Now with the digital distribution people are interested in the console again.
maskedrose @ May 16th 2009 7:15AM
uh... did you ever think now with more known GAMES people are interested?
durf!!!!!
anarkhy @ May 16th 2009 3:26AM
You can still have a fisical media with all your games. Just download them, plug to pc and burn on a DVD.
Then you can have all games you are playing on a stick and a backup of all them.
Clannad @ May 16th 2009 7:35AM
I would of purchased this too if it weren't for the unnecessary bashing they put towards UMD.
Kid Chemical @ May 16th 2009 8:24AM
Yeah...pretty sure this was always announced as a PSN exclusive.
At least according to Joystiq's own Andrew Yoon on February 7th 2009.
"Let's face the truth: new PSP exclusive games are far and few. We were surprised to hear that Dark Horse Comics was going to announce a brand new game for the PSP at New York Comic Con. Even more surprising is the game's unique distribution model: it is a brand new game that will be available exclusively on the PlayStation Store for PSP."

Digital download only is fail.
I can legally download all the music I want to, yet I prefere to buy records because of the cover art and that special sound only records have.
Why would I want to buy a game I can`t return If I dont like it ?.
