Watchmen: The End is Nigh Blu-ray to combine game and film
`
We reported last night that the two episodic Watchmen games were going to be compiled onto a retail disc. However, we've now learned that PS3 owners will be able to get the game in one very awesome Blu-ray hybrid package.
Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience is one of the first Blu-ray discs to offer a video game and movie in a single package. (The special edition of Stranglehold on PS3 included a copy of Hard Boiled.) Not only will the package include the Director's Cut of the Watchmen film, it will also include The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2. The two-disc set will feature exclusive artwork and packaging.
The End is Nigh didn't get the best reviews, but we're encouraged by this news. This is an excellent step for the format to take -- one we hope other publishers will copy in the future. Bundling a game and film for one low price is certainly an attractive offer. Imagine: Batman: Arkham Asylum with HD episodes of the Batman animated series, or the upcoming Transformers game with the first film? There are a lot of possibilities here.

so will I be able to watch the film on a stand-alone blu-ray player?

It says this is a special "package", not a special disc. So in other words you get the normal Watchman Blu-Ray disc and a free coaster that has the crap games on it.
I need a new coaster so I'll have to look into this.

I'd like to play the Watchmen game just because it's Watchmen, but there's no way it's worth $40. I might buy this is the price is right. I'll be buying the movie eventually anyway. :P

I already Pre-ordered the Blu-ray but depending on how much it is with the game I may switch my Pre-order
If its going to cost more than $35 damn that....

This might just get me to buy the game and the movie. I don't buy many movies (I've bought two movies since I got my PS3 a year and a half ago, of course I got 15 for free and sold 7 of them) but I did like Watchmen and the game was decent enough. Depends on the price. I think I would pay $30-40 for it.

I wonder if trophies will still be available while playing from the disc. I don't see why they wouldn't be, but it's the first time we've seen something like this. Either way, this is still a very attractive deal that I'll most likely take advantage of.

Bu-uu-uutt, what about the xbox and its dvd's?
*chuckles*

i wonder how much extra they will charge for this game/movie pack coz it's pretty unlikely that this will be the same price as the standalone movie disc. i'm thinking an extra $10 would be fair for the game/movie.

fuck yes.
one of my fav movies.
im glad they are going almost all out on it.
except for the fact that theres still about a half hour more they DONT include in the directers cut

I'm eager to see how the PS3 will organize this. Will it show the Blu-ray disc under games, video, or both? Who knows, maybe a whole new section will be added :)
Kevin @ May 21st 2009 8:51PM
my guess is that it will be an install off of the actual disc...
arrness @ May 21st 2009 10:47PM
excellent.
one of my favorite movies
glad to see they are (sorta) going all out on the blu ray
i say sorta because theres still about 30 more minutes that they don't include in the extended

I think some people might be a bit confused about what is actually going on. I think this package will include a blu-ray disc with the movie, and another one with both games on it (or possibly 2 blu-ray discs, one for each game). The blu-ray movie will show up under the movie tab in you XMB and the game in the game tab. I didn't really think it was that hard to figure out.
