Your dreams come true: ESRB rates FFVII for PS3/PSP

To be honest, we never expected it to happen. We're so used to Japan getting awesome PS1 titles that never come to the US or Europe, we just assumed Final Fantasy VII would be one of them. The ESRB says otherwise, however, as it has rated the game for both the PSP and PS3, meaning that we could see it release at any time. Wouldn't that make make a great E3 week treat?
Whether this will be released in Europe is at the whim of Square Enix, though there is no listing for the game on the European ESRB equivilent, PEGI. Like Resident Evil: Director's Cut, this may be exclusive to America.

I must be the only person in the world not to have played this lol.
mgsrocks1 @ May 31st 2009 3:47PM
Nah you're not the only one. I haven't played FFVII even though everyone around me has.
Shin @ May 31st 2009 3:55PM
I havent either. But I will now.
Nobledevil @ May 31st 2009 4:34PM
It's an RPG, and that type of game doesn't appeal to everyone. I love that game (not the greatest RPG ever or even the best FF, though lots of fun), but I don't go "WHAT!?" when someone says they haven't played it.
People give me funny looks and rants when I say I have never and likely will never play Halo 1,2, or 3, so I know what it's like :)
mgsrocks1 @ May 31st 2009 5:50PM
WHAAT?! YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED HALOS!!!11
Yeah, seriously, I haven't played Halo until Halo 3 came out for the Xbox360.
sony boy @ May 31st 2009 5:57PM
the only FF game i have played is crisis core...so i want to play this....while WALKING!!!
kentuckyfried @ May 31st 2009 6:57PM
Never played any of them either. so you're not alone.
johnson412 @ May 31st 2009 8:21PM
I never played it when it was out, but I've played part of the way through on an emulator just recently. It kept glitching so I never finished, so I'll pick this up if it becomes available. I have however played through Crisis Core on PSP.
Unlike NobleDevil, I have played all three Halos. However, people give me the same "WHAT?" look when I tell them I hated each one more than the previous.
Matt @ May 31st 2009 10:12PM
This is easily one of my favorite games of all time... now if only Square re-released Xenogears to the US instead of just Japan and I can die happy :D
Can't wait!!
OLDMIKE @ May 31st 2009 11:16PM

chuck670 @ May 31st 2009 3:00PM
Cant wait to play this on my new samsung LED tv!! and teh psp go whenever it releases.. please sonny dont foget about 6,8, and 9 they were great too!!!
sony boy @ May 31st 2009 6:05PM
isn't 6 on SNES?
linebeginstoblur @ May 31st 2009 6:12PM
Yes, 6 was made for the SNES, but also, most of 1-9 are also on PS one in some form.
1 & 2 = Origins
4 = Chronicles (with Chrono Trigger)
5 & 6 = Anthology
7
8
9
Then 10-12 are on PS2 and 13-? are on PS3. :D
BLipp18 @ May 31st 2009 3:05PM
theyre probably releasing it on the store when FF:ACC comes out on blu-ray, like what they did in japan
Nathanical @ May 31st 2009 3:15PM
*waves at sony on behalf of Europe*
hellllooooooo!!!
Reuben @ May 31st 2009 3:09PM
I actually never say this coming. I quietly applaud you Square Enix.
Sin @ Jun 28th 2009 2:39AM
Agreed, kudos.. The fans will be pleased, and are..
However, I played that last year on my PSP.
So this is sort of old news
Peter @ May 31st 2009 3:10PM
This game is on 3 CDs, I wonder if that'll affect the price?
sony boy @ May 31st 2009 5:58PM
i'm betting 15 bucks.
Junho @ May 31st 2009 8:30PM
3 CD (700mb based) = 1/12 Blu-ray (25gb based)
Mazrael @ May 31st 2009 10:23PM
with new compression, it might be as small as 500mb, the cutscenes killed the CD space.. disc 3 was no where near full, a just the end sequence, and maybe a coulple of cutscenes & missions you could of done on disc 2, there's also the fact that the game engine was on all 3 discs, with 90minutes of fmv. as one download, you can take away the repeated events from the over all file size. without the fmv the game would have likley fit on one disc..
..I just dread going through Midgar again..
...I see Metal Gear 1 on there.. I played that to death..
Scuffles @ Jun 1st 2009 3:18PM
Its a Squeenix game ..... of course its going to be more epxensive, every Squeenix game comes with its own lovable squeenix tax

I stopped playing this game just past the halfway point. These types of games were not my ideal game at the time so I eventually got bored with it. However, a decade later, It's become one of my favorite genre of games so I'm eagerly looking to finally finishing the game.
the_culture @ May 31st 2009 3:23PM
Hmm, will it have Trophy support? ;)
SourceJR @ May 31st 2009 3:45PM
well as seeing as another PS1 port doesn't i think not.
Adrian @ May 31st 2009 5:07PM
Who cares?
linebeginstoblur @ May 31st 2009 3:24PM
I feel sorry for Sony right now. They had some nice surprises, but now, for their E3 conference, they might as well just read off Joystiq. All great news, but wow, if they have any more surprises there, I'll be surprised.
Saikisen @ May 31st 2009 4:58PM
Agreed. Most of the mind-blowing suprises today and yesterday have already suprised me enough already. I wonder what Sony has left to announce...
seamonkey420 @ Jun 1st 2009 12:29AM
i still think sony has a few aces up their sleeve. ;)
i believe they will also make a bigger fuss about sony ericsson's new phones that will have PS3 Remote Play abilities. you can access your media from anywhere on your phone, for me that would be pretty sweet.
but should be an interesting E3 nonetheless. fun to see what the big N and MS got up their sleeves :)
wallywallas @ Jun 1st 2009 3:00AM
Check the Bingo! card... there are still a lot of things that could be announced...
steven(PSN: small_hands) @ May 31st 2009 3:25PM
This better come to Europe or I will be very bitter! Come one Squenix make it so! Otherwise I'll have to get it downloaded from the US account and thats just alot of caffufle with importing PSN cards!
Billop @ May 31st 2009 3:29PM
Hmm I tried replaying it on PSP a few months ago... God almighty how it has aged! Wait until you all play it, it has not aged well! My fave FF is still IX (9). Sony better rbingt hat to thes tory. be a shame to miss out on such a great game. The PSPs screen makes the graphics looks...crisper too.
Reuben @ May 31st 2009 3:43PM
I picked this game up used at an EB a number of years ago, playing it long after its time. The fact that it has aged really doesn't effect me because I never got see it in its prime. It will always look the same to me.
Ryguy226 @ May 31st 2009 4:33PM
Try playing Twisted Metal 2. Age has not been kind to that game at all, it just looks so horrid on an HD TV, and prolly no better on a PSP screen. At least FF7 has all those nice pre rendered backgrounds that always hold up pretty well. I try to think of this game on par with what is being released on the DS now from Squenix.
Levi @ May 31st 2009 6:42PM
VII hasn't aged any worse than IX... Anyway I know evwryone has their favorite, but I just thought personally that IX, while a good game, had such a bland and boring story. Never got the displeasure of playin VIII (I've heard it's just not good). I think I have it sitting around somewhere.
Reuben @ May 31st 2009 8:05PM
VIII was actually my favorite. Between the complicated battle system, the story (until the end) and the character development, I was just enthralled. It also did not have anything to do with some government or crazy wannabe tyrant fighting against a small group of rebels. The story, to me, had the most heart out of any Final Fantasy game.
Lookhappy @ May 31st 2009 3:32PM
If it doesnt make it to europe I may just have to start attacking the SCEE central office, Godzilla-style
Art @ May 31st 2009 3:55PM
I never played FF7 before only the demo that was on a Final Fantasy disc that I purchased at a pawnshop few years ago. I am glad its coming to PSN and hope that we do get more Squarenix games like Parasite Eve which I never played only a demo. Wonder whats the price tag since its 3 disc compressed into one single file and a "premium PS1 game" just like RE1: DC. Hopefully it releases along side FF7: ACC when it comes to Bluray here in the States. I never saw this coming and glad we don't have to wait 2 years to see this game appear on PSN!
traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 31st 2009 3:59PM
In time for the FF VII remake announcement?
gunot213 @ May 31st 2009 5:17PM
Amazing news!!!!!!
Now i can LEGALLY play FFVII on my PSP. I fully intend to buy this game unless it's over £15. I think it'll be £9.99 if it comes out in the UK's PSN.
I bet sales on this game will be astronomical.
Thankyou VERY much Sony
flubba @ May 31st 2009 4:07PM
Apparently FFVII is on it's way to the European store as well (if I understand the hint from ps3bloggen.se correctly).
Covarr @ May 31st 2009 4:13PM
I already have FF7 for the PSX that I can play on my PS3.
However, with recent innovations in "getting the damn thing to work right", the PC version may finally be the superior version, running in HD, rather than upscaled SD, and models replaced by higher quality fan-made ones.
Fun DMC @ May 31st 2009 5:07PM
Can you link me to some of these edits? I have the PC version sitting a few feet away from me and I'd like to play it again.
Levi @ May 31st 2009 6:44PM
yeah I still have the original blak label version.
Phil @ May 31st 2009 9:23PM
