New PS3 bundle includes MLB 09 The Show, Quantum of Solace movie

Just in time for Papi Day (June 21), it appears that a new PS3 bundle will release June 14, which includes MLB 09 The Show and the Quantum of Solace movie on Blu-ray. Shots of the 80GB system, which will still carry the $399 price, were sent to us by a friendly Walmart insider.
We've contacted Sony for official confirmation of the bundle, but it appears not to be a Walmart exclusive from initial checks. We also can't confirm that this bundle is the one previously discovered in the Best Buy system, as more detailed photos revealing the UPC don't match up. We'll update if we hear something back from Sony.
[Thanks, Ray]

I don't get the interest in bundles. Its the same console with a game and/or movie included. This one doesn't even have a special box. If there was a custom design on the ps3 or something, then it would be interesting.

You don't get that you get a "free" game and Blu-Ray movie, that are both pretty good?
If you wanted those 2 items as well as a PS3, you don't have to pay anything extra for them.
Get it now? They're hoping that by throwing 2 decent items into the mix, it will persuade consumers to purchase a PS3. How about now? I don't know how much clearer I can make it. Anyone else want to give it a shot?
il_duce620 @ Jun 10th 2009 12:22PM
Advil, well-explained. I don't think you can get much clearer!
Really, MLB costs $60 and Quantum on Bluray is, what, $25 or so? So...you're getting $85 of value for nothing. And that game is the best-reviewed baseball game around...
I think people would rather see an $85-cheaper PS3, but hey...I'll take it...

I didn't say I don't understand the logic in bundles. A free game makes sense. I just said I don't see why it's particularly interesting. This bundle gives this game, but this one gives another game. GREAT!

Why the hell would you like a custom design for a PS3 rather than a game or movie?
I mean custom designs would be cool, but the PS3 is mainly meant for GAMES AND MOVIES, not for your Uncle Jerry to stare at and wonder where your life went...
or maybe that's just me.....
topdogg069 @ Jun 10th 2009 12:02PM
i love mlb 09 but i dont know if that is the best game to bundle with the system. if your not a baseball fan then you have no interest in that bundle
yourenzyme @ Jun 11th 2009 9:06AM
Can't stand watching baseball myself, BUT MLB the show is such a genuinely enjoyable game and fun to play even i love those games. You most definately don't have to be a baseball fan to play MLB the show, but it helps.
feepness @ Jun 11th 2009 2:50PM
I think it makes perfect sense. MLB2K9 is apparently garbage and a lot of 360 owners are frustrated they can't play MLB09.
This makes the decision to switch to PS3 that much easier...

yea dog if you dont like baseball dont get it agree 250% with you thats pack iam getting in 3 to 4 weeks and the game is great you can go yard if you want and if you are saying its a great deal iam with you instead of paying like 60 more bucks its good iwas gonna get the big one but i saw that pack and it is a must have for any baseball fan like me and you
dr.ghettoblaster @ Jun 10th 2009 12:19PM
what an odd bundle...
HalcyonGT @ Jun 10th 2009 12:19PM
What I wanna know is why doesn't Sony ask *gasp* the real gaming community what they should bundle into a box...instead of continually putting out these "meh" inspiring packages.
MLB and a 007 flick. Holy fuck I couldn't care less.
Why not Uncharted and The Dark Knight?
And if Little Big Planet is as awesome as everyone thinks it is...THEN FUCKING POSITION IT AS A SYSTEM MOVER! Bundle that bitch up!
Its as if Sony has no idea how to market and sell the PS3, from Day Goddamn One. They stay on the high horse of..."We feel the consumer will appreciate the inherent value and longevity of the system." Let me...a gamer tell you what I'll appreciate...give the Blu-Ray soapbox a rest...pimp your AAA games...and lower the fucking price. Have you seen this economy?
dr.ghettoblaster @ Jun 10th 2009 12:30PM
I think a better bundle would be include a $60 gift card for a PS3 game of BUYER'S CHOICE..........AND.........a $30 gift card for a blu-ray movie of BUYER'S CHOICE. Think about it...........that would have to appeal to a larger audience than any one game one movie pre-chosen bundle...
Deaddy @ Jun 10th 2009 2:25PM
I rented this film last night, wasn't crazy about it.
Nobledevil @ Jun 10th 2009 3:34PM
They could have put something in besides MLB, for pete's sake. I live in Indianapolis and while MLB is okay here, the fact that we don't have a major league team means almost no one gives a sh*t. If they just put in two older action-adventures like Ratchet & Clank and Heavenly Sword (neither of which are probably selling like crazy and will be greatest hits soon I think) alongside the movie it would have nationwide appeal.
This stuff is so obvious it makes me wonder who the heck is in charge at Sony that makes these decisions...
1twojay @ Jun 10th 2009 3:45PM
I saw this on the shelves of my local walmart yesterday!
It's a really odd bundle and I didn't think too much of it then. I should've taken a picture and sent it in...
mewoks @ Jun 11th 2009 1:35AM
As did I. This past Sunday.
spacesuit105 (PSN-spacesuit501) @ Jun 10th 2009 6:01PM
I actually think that the following bundle should be made and sold at $399:
80 GB PS3
Little Big Planet
$20 PSN card
I think that would be a pretty good deal, and maybe because the bundle is only $399, the price of the PS3 core pack would be lowered!!!
jarhead906 @ Jun 10th 2009 6:15PM
Bundle Idea for North America:
"Final Fantasy VII Bundle"
- 80 GB PS3 (regular or custom Cloud insignia like in Japan)
- Voucher to download FF VII
- Include the Blu-ray of Advent Children Complete
Since FF VII just got released on the PS Store, they would probably want to wait a while. I don't get why Sony doesn't release SOME kind of FF VII bundle like they did in Japan. People would go ape shit over it.
