O Canada, PlayStation Network cards have arrived!

It took long enough, but it appears pre-paid PlayStation Network cards have arrived in Canada. Makinen snapped this photo of a local Canadian card that credits you 20 Canadian dollars for use on the PSN. With it, our credit card-less Canadian friends can finally start downloading games ~~and movies~~ onto the PS3 and PSP.

About time is right... I don't want to use anymore credit on downloads, I much rather pay witht he cash when I have it... one less thing I don't have to rely on my credit card for. I hope this is true and I can go to Ebgames/Walmart or whatever and find this...

I hope they do come to Blockbuster, as Sony said they would, since I can get 20% off, and that would make more PSN items worth buying. Or Toys R Us or Future Shop.

I would be thankful, but I much prefer using credit on the PSN store. I click buy, and 10 seconds later I'm downloading.
When you buy a card for $20 do you get to buy the games on the store tax free???
Because really... Card costs you $20 +tax
A game for 9.99 usually ends up at about 10.98 with tax I believe, 10.98+10.98 = 21.96.
Suddenly you need 2 cards to buy two ten dollar games.

So basically, unless with this card you get to buy games tax free... it is an unbelievable rip off.

Plus, there's always that point in time where you have $3.49 left on the card with nothing under $5 interesting you. Hell I bought a Wii points card at launch and I'm pretty sure I have 200 points left.

Ok thanks for clearing that up guys, well with no tax on the $20 psn card that means that there is most definitely still going to be sales tax on the games themselves...

Meaning you are getting royally ripped off... You'll need two $20 cards to really be able to get anything of value...

$20 card:
21.96 : 2x 9.99 games (10.98 with tax)
21.98: 1x 19.99 game (21.98 w tax)
...
So really, you are stuck buying a single 9.99 game and then a few Sackboy costumes.

Still an option for those without credit, but i really wish Sony would price games accordingly so the $20 could be met evenly.

It's not getting "ripped off" any more than pay sales tax in real life. It's not like everything worth having on the PSN is $10, and it's not like you don't to keep what you have left over anyway.

It's not 'getting ripped off' however I'm still going to cement my point.
If you buy a game for 9.99 you aren't left with very much...
You'll notice that there are no games that cost $8.19 (after tax you end up with 1 cent on your card if you spend this much).
That is the most you will be able to spend after buying a game for $9.99.
In order to purchase a game such as burnout paradise, you would need a $40 dollar card, you would then have $18.70 left on your card

With a single $20 card there is very little you can buy, 1 game and a map pack. Whereas with a credit card one could spend the extra dollar and get 2 games.
However, Sony wants you to buy more than one $20 card. You have money left over, so now you need to pick up another card to add to the remaining balance.
Basically it comes down to money in your pocket is better than money in someone else pocket and some 'fake credits' on your account.

BTW people, buy FFVII, Burnout paradise and a map pack with your $40 card, seems mathematically the best way to get your money's worth.
I buy a $9.99 game, Burnout Paradise and a map pack.
That's 10.98 + 21.98 + 6.58 = 39.54

No tax on Gift Cards. Tax goes into effect at the time of purchase. And yes the PStore has tax, if you think it doesnt you've obviously never used it b4.(it does in Ontario Canada anyway)

And you'd add the whole card too your Wallet, so whatever you were left with stays in the wallet. So it doesnt go to watse like with other gift cards

This is nice because now you can buy friends and family cards for birthdays and whatnot. get the kids a 20$ card or a couple of them instead of a new PSP game at the store.

everyday purchases are better left to the CC saved on the PS3.

Sales tax on games in the PSN store goes by what state you live in. For example, I live in Connecticut and we have no sales tax on digital distribution. I can buy a PSN card for 20 bucks flat, and buy two 9.99 games in which the total amount comes out to 9.99 for each game, no tax at all. I have about 30 cents in my wallet in the PSN store because of that. Sony has nothing to do with sales tax in the PSN store. It's the state you live in. Some people have to pay sales tax because the state puts tax on digital distribution, but here in Connecticut we're just lucky that we have no sales tax on digital distribution.
