Valkyria Chronicles continues DLC expansion in Japan

It might not have become the multi-million mega blockbuster it deserved to be, but Valkyria Chronicles has managed to expand through an anime series and multiple pieces of DLC. It looks like Sega's not quite done with the franchise, as even more DLC has been announced for the Japanese audience. IGN reports that "Edy's Squad Challenge" will be the next add-on for the game, and should be available in Japan on June 26th, more than a year after the game's original release. The DLC will focus on objective-based challenges for players to complete, such as taking out specific enemies or saving allies.

Sega of America hasn't commented on whether or not the DLC will come to American audiences. While likely, we should remember that gamers had to wait for months for a proper localization. Hopefully, Sega won't take as long this time around.

Well, Sega... give the game trophies, and you'll see more a response here in America.

Americans love those achievements. If you push the patch out that gives them, then I promise you'll see a surge in sales.

I already own the game, but have yet to really play it or purchase any DLC. Give the game Trophies and I'm sure it'll see a [another] surge (though not 400%) in sales and also an increase in DLC sales.

What is up with people just buying game's based on trophies? Seriously I don't get it, I mean there cool and all, and I enjoy trying to get them on the games that I own, but I wouldn't buy or not buy a game based on trophies! Is it just and American thing?!?

Anyway, this is good news, I've just brought the game a few weeks ago and enjoying it, not really a huge fan of anime or rpg's so this game is a lil different than what I usually play, but do enjoy a good strategy game and this game is pretty good at that, plus the story's decent which helps. Hope this DLC comes to the rest of us.

I don't understand these losers either but the type that have to level up a stupid trophy level to impress random people online are the type that do nothing but comment on the internet all day. So their voices online at places like the playstation blog or here seem like it's loud.

Whatever go on ahead with your "durrr me need trophies!!!" crap.

Looking forward to this, hopefully some kind of sequel or prequel is in the works as well.

Or a sequel to Skies of Arcadia, another underappreciated gem.

edy died in my game ages before any dlc was announced so far as i am concerned she's dead and only trophies can saver her.

In all seriousness though, it's fucking pathetic every post about VC has to turn into some trophy debate, it doesn't have it, it won't, get over it.

I'm really excited to see new content, I'd love to see a prequel (since the storyline doesn't really scream sequel to me).. so hopefully the fact that they are continuing to support is is a good sign. I wonder how the anime is doing in ratings, I only watched the first 2 or 3 episodes.

Trophies would see me buying it in a heart beat.

Trophies obviously don't make a good game, but they do greatly extend the life of a game by giving you incentives to play through more of the game than you normally would, hence extending its value.

Sure - trophies are a fun little addition, but it's like 0.01% of the sum-total of a great game. It might mean more for making a sucky game a little more of a challenge, but personally I'd rather play the great game without trophies than struggle through a mediocre or sucky game just to get them trophies.

Trophies don't extend the life of a great game - a great game is a game you want to play - and then play again - because the game is great! Not because you feel some kind of compulsion or duty to get silly digital props to your self-esteem.

I definitely agree with this, the game is one of my favorites of the past 2-3 years just because its purely unique and a hell of a lot of fun.

I don't see why trophies play such a big role in people buying a game, if you desperately want trophies that bad set your own damn challenges and stick a piece of paper to the screen with a picture of a trophy on when you get it....
