Home survey hints at future content

Sony has sent around another Home survey to see if it can figure out what people actually want from the service. Triplechat has an in-depth post about the various features that are mentioned in the survey -- some of which are things that have been promised before (such as game launching and music / video sharing) and some of which are things that haven't been mentioned (such as a PlayStation-branded Home space).
The survey asks recipients to rate different features with regard to how appealing they are or how likely the are to encourage more frequent Home visits. One section asks users to indicate what types of streaming media they'd like to see in the theater, such as full movies and TV shows, indie movies, music videos, developer interviews and stand up comedy.
Elsewhere it asks what features users would like to see in the aforementioned PlayStation Home space. These include minigames, backstory of the history of PlayStation and its games, trailers, interactive demos of PlayStation products, developer interviews and the ability to ask PlayStation experts questions about the brand. It all sounds like content that would be worth a look, but there's no guarantee at this point how much will make it into the service. Still, it's nice to see Sony constantly tasting the soup as it cooks.

McKeyDee @ Jul 1st 2009 9:26PM
I almost didn't catch that one.
Moris @ Jul 2nd 2009 1:30PM
what is it with that face? I have no idea who it is if it's supposed to be someone special :P

Game Launching for all games would be nice, but it's not possible. Only for all UPCOMING games in that case, but that's pretty nice aswell.
SimbaDogg @ Jul 1st 2009 9:31PM
Game launching...eh, but it would be nice if they could set up voice chat. Maybe not so there's just a clusterf*$@ of people talking, but at least to the point where you could select people around you, and basically open a voice chat.
And on another side note, why is it that i never get any of the good surveys from sony. I just got a survey las week, but it was about playstation.com
Mo @ Jul 2nd 2009 1:37PM
unfortunately, game launching is the only thing home is really, really good for... IMO
and at that, it fails.
Why not a mandatory requirement for all psn certified games to include code for game launching moving forward.
is it THAT FUCKING hard?? if so, i understand..
you want me in home? let me meet up with my friends and launch games... until then...
im only in there to get free shit or look at something ive unlocked from time to time.

I see dead (space) people

All Dead Space and no News makes Joystick a Dull Boy.

For how long this will go

Sony already knows what we want in terms of features. The only problem with the ALREADY PROMISED features like a Party System/Game Launching is that Sony will probably limit it Home, meaning that you have to launch the application to use it instead of making it a XMB feature.
If it's not accessible outside of Home, then it's just one more point lost for a cohesive PSN.

how come i never get these surveys...
kentuckyfried @ Jul 1st 2009 10:12PM
Make sure when you sign up for anything, you don't put yourself into anything outside of the 21-24 age category.
I think Sony hates old people since we don't fit that sort of target demographic.

Putting the face in every post is getting incredibly annoying. It's not even funny. The picture isn't even that bad to begin with. Just stop it.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 1st 2009 10:13PM
Home needs remote video sharing. They do that, automatic win...it'll help save some long distance relationships.
Halifirien @ Jul 1st 2009 10:29PM
If would be nice if your in-Home television played video located on your drive and streamed it so everyone in the apartment could watch it at the same time. You could have a group of online friends gather for "Mystery Science Theater 3000" viewing parties or (more likely) porn.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 1st 2009 10:48PM
Exactly. Not just for your SO, but your old friends from college, etc, with whom you are no longer geographically close.
I'm sure that there are major piracy issues involved (the tv and mpaa people are not happy with this idea I'm sure), which is why we haven't heard/seen anything along this avenue.
pequenlulu1968 @ Jul 1st 2009 10:51PM
what is up with the face
Sylar @ Jul 2nd 2009 12:03AM
Can someone tell me the reason for the face in the pictures? I feel so clueless right now...
j.howlett @ Jul 2nd 2009 12:06AM
i'm not asking for all old games to have trophies, just a way to tell what games someone has or have played. i met someone in home and we played a couple games we both had in our trophy card, but it wasn't until i saw them playing tekken 5 one day that i knew they had it.
ibetnoonehasthisname @ Jul 2nd 2009 12:09AM
what the hell's with all these faces?
