Sony is printing money with its slowly expanding library of PSone classics on the PlayStation Store. Playable on both PSP and PS3, these downloadable titles have been an easy way to prey upon gamer nostalgia. Unsurprisingly, the most iconic games of the PS1 era take the top of the PSone downloads chart in the month of June:
- Final Fantasy VII
- Street Fighter Alpha
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Crash Bandicoot
- Twisted Metal 2
- Spyro the Dragon
- Crash Bandicoot: WARPED
- Crash Bandicoot 2
- Wild Arms
- Tekken 2
It shouldn't be too surprising to see multiple
Crash Bandicoot games take positions in the top 10. He was, after all, PlayStation's official mascot back in the day. Let's remember him with some classic PS1 ads after the break.

Maybe because since Vivendi Universal took over the franchise for Naughty Dog none of the games have recaptured the charm they once had. The same happened with Spyro.

FF7 up at the top doesn't surprise me. Like the Pokemon games on any DS list, it'll probably be up there for a long time to come.
Honestly, just last weekend I bought my first PSP BECAUSE I'd just heard about FF7 being a downloadable PSS game. These games are selling not just themselves, but freakin' PSPs.
Now here's hoping we get some FF8, Legend of Dragoon, and Chrono Cross love at some point.

SONY could even get more money from the PSN store if they just allowed people, for example in South America (other than Mexico), to buy from it. Also, they are now blocking people with custom firmware. And, honestly, a hacker going to PSN is someone you wanna keep not block!
I hope they keep releasing those golden oldies.

Really, the rationale for banning people with custom firmware from using the PS Store is like banning people in hoodies from going into your movie theatre because someone bootlegged a movie there once. You're going to drive more people in hoodies to go elsewhere or pirate it than you are going to get them to take it off.
If someone walks in to your store and tries to buy something, you don't say "Hey, are you a thief?", you thank them for the purchase.

Those top 3 games on the list are GOLD. Some of the best games on the PS1...bought each of them ($59) at launch during those golden days. Street Fighter Alpha 2 is better than 1 though...and so is RE2 :)

This was just a little misleading. At first I read this as "Three classic PS1 games top PSN charts."
Then I read the list of items and I realized that those are all PS1 games.
I then had to re-read the entire article to finally grasp that I was, in fact, looking at the top 3 PS1 downloads on the PSN.
And then I promptly said "A-duh."
Can we get a blog post about how most PS3's are still black? That seems just as mind-blowingly obvious as this.

Well I read it as:
"Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Castlevania top the PSone sales charts"
Obviously they aren't talking about the console, which leaves the PSN, and saying "PSone" means only PS1/X games, so I didn't get confused.

How awesome would it be, if NAUGHTY DOG (thats important) remade crash 1,2,3 in HD for PS3? no gameplay tweaks. All just next gen upgrades with the graphics. and trophies. I'd pay $60 (or more) even though i already own all of them on disc, and two of them from PSN... Just a thought...

How would it figure if this is exactly how a price cut would be possible for Sony? Shove the previous models of PS3/PSP at us until they can't anymore, start actually selling things in the Store, and have that make up enough of the slack to print and cut truly revamped models of the hardware? Dammit, Sony, stop bein' coy dicks.
