Final Fantasy II continues PlayStation Network roll-out
As expected, Square Enix is continuing its roll-out of Final Fantasy classics on the PlayStation Network. In addition to Final Fantasy VII and the original Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II can now be found on the Japanese PlayStation Store. Just like before, this archived re-release is based on the PS1 version of the game and can be played on both the PS3 and PSP.
At the rate that Square Enix has been releasing these games onto the PSN, we can expect the first nine Final Fantasy games as downloads before year's end. We wonder how long it'll take for Square Enix USA to announce localized versions of these downloads ...

Now THIS is exciting. I own and love the PS1 game, but the load times are pretty rough... I'm assuming these downloads don't suffer the same problem! I might just pick this up...
pspfanboi @ Jul 8th 2009 5:12PM
i wonder if they will re-release FFVII again once they get past FFVI since i missed it the first time around.
DrunkRaba @ Jul 8th 2009 6:08PM
ffVII is on the US store as we type!
Aurain @ Jul 8th 2009 5:16PM
I wonder how much longer after the US release of these games will we get to see them on the EU PSN?
If it's anything like Chrono Trigger, we'll have to wait 14 years for it.
Darlaten @ Jul 8th 2009 5:22PM
I'm confused. Didn't North America already get a chance to play Final Fantasy I and II as they were released on UMD a year or two ago? Or these new PSN games something different?

The US already had a chance to play the FF1 and FF2 that are on the JP PSN in the form of Final Fantasy Origins for the PS1.
Reuben @ Jul 9th 2009 12:24AM
The ones released for the PSP on UMD were remakes of the originals with updated sprites. These are the original ones that came out on the original PS over a decade ago.

Bah, FF 2 is my least favorite FF game. FF VI, VIII, and IX please.
sean @ Jul 8th 2009 5:52PM
i never played VIII but iX kicked ass. i think i like it more then 7 even

Nice Dolce and Gabbana fingernails.
Heavytoka @ Jul 8th 2009 5:42PM
I want them all!
TrumpetDan @ Jul 8th 2009 6:02PM
I have my PS1 versions of VII, VIII, and IX still; but being able to play VII on my PSP has breathed new life into it for me. Would love to see VIII and IX on the PSN here in the US by year's end, so that I could play through them again.
And definitely Xenogears. Heck, Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve while you're at it Square!
Polkster @ Jul 8th 2009 6:28PM
You know, I have FFVII for my PS1 and I think this game is available in some anthology or something... but imagine if they released these games with trophy support. I'd totally rebuy FFVII and beat it again for troooffffeeeess.
Jling84 @ Jul 8th 2009 7:07PM
I don't think we'll get these in the US. If anything, they will just release Final Fantasy Origins, which has both FF1 and FF2 and therefore will not need any localization.
gary @ Jul 8th 2009 7:15PM
i think i'll wait for a packaged deal of all or most of the final fantasies
Ravendust @ Jul 9th 2009 8:51AM
One of the original FF's (III) never saw a Playstation release, I wonder if Square-Enix will port the Famicom version?
Flicky @ Jul 8th 2009 7:26PM
I've never played an RPG before. Should I try any one of the the FF games as a first game, download or not ?
Draco @ Jul 8th 2009 9:27PM
Traditional RPG's are hard to get into, its a "you had to be there moment" genre, which is why most people don't like J-RPG's they haven't changed much in 15 years. I grew up on the original Final Fantasy so I'm hooked, but I can understand why new people to the genre can't get into them.
I would try Final Fantasy 1, its not the most polished game, the story is kinda campy, and it's really hard, but its also pretty short, you can play the entire game in under 5 hours (you will most likely take over 10 though or even 20 first time around) and you have tons of freedom.
get origins when it comes out... but stay away from FF II (the NES one not SNES)
Reuben @ Jul 9th 2009 12:21AM
I would actually sugest FF VII. It's very accessible and the mechanics are not complicated. You just have to adjust to the idea of having to wait your turn to attack.
kacex @ Jul 8th 2009 9:29PM
If they already made a remake for the psp, why dont make it available to play on PS3...
They were just lazy as hell to just release as the psone title and without any localization like multilang since they already did it before... why cant they just release the multilang version for every psn store and the psp remade versions? now that would be worth buying...
Tsubasa @ Jul 8th 2009 10:10PM
Still waiting for the best Final Fantasy ever, IX.
Dave @ Jul 8th 2009 11:01PM
I wish they would hurry up and release xenogears to the USA already. It's been out in japan even longer than FF7 and in my opinion it was a much better RPG. I could care less about the old NES finalfantasies since I already have the GBA versions to play on my DS.
TJF588 @ Jul 9th 2009 1:29AM
The third (numbered) FF wasn't ever remade for any of Sony's stuff, so I doubt it'd get onto the PSN as-is. As for the others, I worry about the porting fumbles and translation differences. Obviously, Japan doesn't have as much to worry about in that regard, but do we really need "Gus" again? Why DON'T they release the PSP touch-ups (they're like a buff-back-up of the GBA versions, which were graphically and aurally based on the PS1 versions) as UMD Legacy? At the least, FFII is more accessible as it is now. FFI from ORIGINS still has merit in playing like the original(s), rather than the forced-new-style since the GBA.
trunks @ Jul 9th 2009 3:41AM
ff6 would be fun although I still have the orig version and I guess it would look kinda strange on my beamer...but I love that they rerelease those gems
Ravendust @ Jul 9th 2009 8:55AM
Oh what the HELL, comment's system. I posted that yesterday >_>
karlwulfekote @ Jul 9th 2009 12:26PM
Nice. I really hope they end up putting up 1-9 (minus 3). It would be really nice to see them all up on the PS store together.
Tez @ Jul 9th 2009 9:57PM
Release FFIX.
