Monster Hunter Freedom Unite does monsterously well in Japan

Japanese PSP owners are united in their love of Capcom's latest Monster Hunter installment. According to figures released today, Freedom Unite -- which just launched here in the US -- has sold a total of 3.5 million copies in Japan since its release there in March. Capcom notes that this includes 1 million in sales of the game's "The Best" budget line version.
The Monster Hunter franchise is not nearly as huge in the States, but that's something that could change once Sony finally releases its adhocParty app for PS3 here. It enables groups of PSP users to play online with full voice chat, which kinda makes coordinating to bring down the beasts a whole lot easier -- and fun.

I think I would buy the game if we had adhoc party available.
Dreadhead541 @ Jul 8th 2009 10:42PM
you can download ad-hoc party for free on the japanese playstation store, it works fine for MHFU and there are always lots of people online

I realize now that I accidentally downloaded it a while ago when i was snagging up everything in the Japanese PSstore that was free. When I get MHFU this should be pretty awesome although I might need a guide on how to use it considering I can't comprehend Japanese characters.

the problem would be coordination. i'm pretty sure if one person speaks english, and the other 3 speak japanese, coordination would be insanely hard.

that adhocParty app looks useful.
SladeNoctis @ Jul 8th 2009 11:20PM
Why don't all rpg and fighting psp developers finally grow some balls(if thats the issues or could be the lack of money) and make games with infrastructure feature without using the damn ps3. (I have one but come its a drag having most of your friends not owning a ps3 and not able to ad hoc party.
astrocrack @ Jul 8th 2009 11:38PM
It is not like adhoc Party has a lot to translate and it is extremely useful.

hold on.
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 Unite is just the american/european version of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G which was released loooong before unite.
so youre telling me that 3,5 million japanese people bought the exact same game they bought months ago??? again?
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Jul 9th 2009 5:52AM
Noooo, hes talking about 2G of course, 3.5 million people bought 2G, the game we now know to be freedom unite, no point calling it 2G if people don't recognise it in america and europe as 2G
HPJ @ Jul 9th 2009 7:19AM
Except that MHP2G Was released OVER a year ago, not in march.
Tetris @ Jul 9th 2009 11:03AM

PSN:Wild_Pegasus @ Jul 9th 2009 5:54AM
I've heard rumors that to use Ad hoc party you PS3 connection must be wired? :S Anyone confirm this?
HPJ @ Jul 9th 2009 7:23AM
Yes, you must use a wired connection from your PS3 to free up the wifi so that the PSP can use it.
KingOfHearts @ Jul 9th 2009 8:41AM
If i had friends that had 1) a job, 2) a psp, and lived close to me, ida bought the game... Its kinda like PSO to me. Its fun in single player, but id much rather play it in multiplayer.
Bainge @ Jul 9th 2009 12:39PM
That's okay though, because you can just simply use X-Link Kai and it works like a dream. Throw in ventrilo at the same time and you've got one of the best online experiences around.

Cant wait for Monster Hunger freedom 3!
Josh @ Jul 9th 2009 3:43PM

It was released March 2008.
Neo Asuma @ Jul 9th 2009 9:23PM
I just wish they'd make Monster Hunter on PS3 already.
