Harry Potter briefly resurrects UMD with new boxset
Warner Bros. didn't get the memo about UMD and death, apparently, as Siliconera reports the studio is set to offer the first five Harry Potter films in one UMD package. This five-disc UMD bundle is hopping a broomstick and heading to Europe only, and likely won't see a huge run, because, uh, common sense. If you're a collector or have a Region 2 PSP, have at it, but if you've got the standard Region 1 PSP, know that you wouldn't be able to watch these if you bought 'em.

wait, releasing an as-yet-unfinished set of movies on a limited-region platform on a disk based medium that's soon being abandoned, that's exclusively for a several hundred dollar device that's owned largely by male gamers.
Is that right?

and don't forget that the newest version of PSPs (PSP Go!) wont be able to play the format.

that woman that created Harry Potter probably just found some cash in the washing machine and was like, "maybe I will agree to that UDB Disc thing"

They would not of done this off their own back, sony would of had some sort of deal with them to do it.
Which is a good idea on sony's part.

No this is for all the uniformed and clueless that are going to pay upwards of what $50 to $75 (eruos/pounds) for the set when it gets released Oct 1 when they buy the PSP Go not knowing that the discs will not work, no trade in policy and have already opened the package. Cheap and easy money.

haven't you heard? Warner Bros. loves to support dead formats!
see: last man standing when it came to HD-DVD!

Why???
I remember Sony saying before that they never believe in the UMD deal

lol...this is comedy gold. I love the PSP and Sony but UMD is just absolute garbage.

I like UMD. I like watching "The Fifth Element" on long rides.
Still, the things could have been cheaper. Much, much, much cheaper. Though if you can find UMD's nowadays, they tend to be in the 1$ to 5$ range, owing to no one wanting to buy them anyway.
......Come to think of it, Sony gave away software for free that lets you convert movies YOU ALREADY OWN to play on the PSP, didn't they? So.....nevermind. UMD is pretty mind boggling, isn't it? And why did I buy a second copy of "The Fifth Element"?
