Watch Clank use time to defeat his enemies
Insomniac took the time to explain a brand new weapon that'll be introduced in the upcoming game -- the one created by fans. You'll have to watch the video after the break to find out exactly what it is.

some one tell me what the weapon is...I'm at work. I can't watch the video.
NoughtSoClever @ Jul 24th 2009 5:29PM
It's called the Spiral of Death. Looks like a blue buzz saw mounted vertically at the end of a gun. You shoot it at an enemy and it flys at them spinning, it remains spinning at the end of it's range and you can recall it back to you, so it damages enemies coming and going. Plus it always comes right back to you, where ever you go, like a yo yo.
prodigy69 @ Jul 24th 2009 6:10PM
basically a boomerang / yo yo buzz saw :)

I don't give a shit about this game unless they bring back the online from R&C UYA, and R D.
Insomniac should listen to the fans on this one.
SHADOWT93 @ Jul 24th 2009 5:38PM
This game is going to be awesome this just shows what happens when PS3 is the lead platform this game is not just on the ps3 it is only possible on ps3.
sorry xbots and M$ it when be a long time before you catch up to the lead innovaters that the mighty sony don't worry you can have the exclusives from PS2 if you want Sony has stepped up and realized that all you've done to stay in the console race is steal exclusives from Sony.
sony boy @ Jul 24th 2009 6:21PM
should i buy the ps2 versions to know the story??? I play R&C on psp and i didn't really like it, so i'm not sure if i should buy the ps2 versions.
Ashitaka @ Jul 24th 2009 8:41PM
Just buy Tools Of Destruction for the PS3. Apart from the main villain of Up Your Arsenal (which returns now in A Crack In Time), there's nothing in the PS2 games that you have to know to understand the story.
I'd tell you to buy the PS2 games as they are absolutely fantastic but I doubt you would trust the words of a user with a Ratchet avatar :P
Kattleox @ Jul 24th 2009 10:08PM
You should not buy the PS2 ones to understand the story. HOWEVER you definitely should buy the PS2 ones as they are awesome games in their own right. Sign up for GameStop's newsletter since used PS2 games are 20% off this week and they will email you the coupon. That way you can buy yourself some of the best games of all time for chump change.
mikeburnfire @ Jul 24th 2009 6:46PM
The PSP ones were the most mediocre. The PS2 versions were the best, but you don't need to play them to enjoy the PS3 ones.
On another note, it looks like Clank levels will actually be FUN to play! What a concept!
Jacksons @ Jul 26th 2009 5:35PM
Lmao, no kidding. Nearly every game has been marred by some ridiculous clank-only mission that's never memorable.
Eric @ Jul 24th 2009 7:13PM
So then...the new weapon will be just as difficult to use (meaning worthless) as the Tornado was in the last game. Great.
mikeburnfire @ Jul 24th 2009 8:19PM
I will never understand why people bash the Tornado Launcher. Even if you have problems with the SixAxis controls, it's not like it requires precision. It's a giant tornado! Just let it fly!
Ashitaka @ Jul 24th 2009 8:32PM
The Tornado Launcher wasn't hard to use at all, in fact it was one of the best weapons!
Pat @ Jul 25th 2009 1:38AM
What are you talking about? The Tornado Launcher was fantastic and a breeze to use. Every time there was a crowd of enemies I would use it to get rid of them quickly. And controlling the tornado was not only intuitive but also very easy. I guess you also are one of those bashing Lair for it's "poor controls" when it is one of the best examples of Sixaxis use (not to mention a fantastic game).
Eric @ Jul 25th 2009 4:05AM
The Tornado Launcher was fine if you were in a protected location and could stand still. If you had to move around (say, to avoid being attacked), it was near impossible to simultaneously protect yourself *and* direct the tornado effectively. Maybe it's just me, but I found it hard to spatially maintain two separate and independent bodies (Ratchet and the tornado) at the same time. This will still be an improvement over that in that at least you can just aim it at an enemy and shoot.
I never played Lair.
Ashitaka @ Jul 25th 2009 11:52AM
"If you had to move around (say, to avoid being attacked), it was near impossible to simultaneously protect yourself *and* direct the tornado effectively."
Lol, no, it wasn't. I for one could do that easily.
Hold R2 or L2 for strafing.
Use the left analog stick to move in which direction you want.
Use the right analog stick to move the camera.
Press X to do backflips or 'sideflips'
Use the Sixaxis to control the tornado.
It seems you just weren't tailored for playing R&C games.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Jul 24th 2009 9:23PM
The new weapon reminds me of that one in Dead Space.
chris @ Jul 24th 2009 10:59PM
I really like the fist ps3 installment, I hope this one is just as good.
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 24th 2009 11:38PM
That video was amazing, sir!
Khaled @ Jul 25th 2009 12:23AM
I feel bad for not playing this game. I always wanted to play it, just didn't have the chance to. I tried the demo and I loved it.
Leo161 @ Jul 25th 2009 3:06AM
I've owned every ratchet game and loved them all!
Here's my personal ranking of the games:
1. Going Commando
2. Up Your Arsenal
3. Future: Quest For Booty
4. Deadlocked
5. Future: Tools of Destruction
6. Original Game
7. Size Matters
8. Secret Agent Clank
I still think that Tools was a bit of a flop compared to the orginals on the ps2 and the psp ones were not the best either, although they were excellent for psp titles. Quest for Booty felt like it had much better production values than Tools and began to push back where Tools pulled away from. I hope that A Crack In Time really steps the Future Franchise back to the top! Or at least above Arsenal!
Jacksons @ Jul 26th 2009 5:30PM
Yeah, that's about what I'd rank them as too. Secret Agent Clank is the only one I didn't play more than once.
Mazer @ Jul 25th 2009 7:18AM
Well, that is a direct rip off of BRAID from the XBOX arcade. Kind of disappointing considering Ratchet & Clank always impresses me with it's innovative gameplay.
Ashitaka @ Jul 25th 2009 11:47AM
You really are naive (or dumb...) to believe that Braid was the first game ever to use that time technique.
Adam @ Jul 25th 2009 10:45AM
I have almost the exact same list as you Leo161 except i really enjoyed tools and i would have to switch it with quest for booty. To me that game was too short for its money and there wasn't any secret bolts in that game, like c'mon those were so much fun to collect and i hope this new game has trophies.
And also i still cant deiced what i like better going commando or up your arsenal those were both amazing games
Leo161 @ Jul 25th 2009 12:52PM
lol, yeah I guess I could give you that one, the gold bolts are a little fun but with trophies, Hell Yeah! and yeah I spent a minute or two trying to decide which was better too, and I never really decided, I kinda just put UYA and GC up at the top they're like both #1
