Burn Zombie Burn to get DLC, lights up Home with new space
PlayStation Home is getting another themed space, this time promoting the recently PSN exclusive Burn Zombie Burn. According to doublesix senior games designer Ollie Barder, the BZB Home space will a feature a maze populated with brain-munching zombies and will be placed within a graveyard, so players can frolic with the undead. Bigger than that, BZB is getting a dose of DLC with two new levels taking place in space (it's the final frontier, by the way). Release information or price for the DLC was not revealed. Check out a trailer of the new alien abduction-themed levels after the break.

that guy looks like he could be related to the buzz host
johnnynumber5 @ Jul 31st 2009 1:19PM
He looks just like Buzz ... he is also pretty funny. He has some good Duke Nukem esque tag lines before each round starts.
I play this game more than any other game I've owned this generation. I play at least 2 hours every night and have put at least 100 hours into it and still haven't beat all the game types or unlocked all the trophies.
I'll probably buy the DLC but they need a patch that takes the difficulty down on some of the levels. That secret lab level on time attack is impossible to get even the bronze medal on IMO.

this is a game i would get when i finally upgrade from my original 60 gigs. i'll probably wait to see if it ends up in the next psn sale.

I like the new space, kind of different looking from the rest of Home. The zombie wandering around outside is cool.
xoonaka @ Jul 31st 2009 12:41PM
Enough to make you buy the game, though?
Barry32171 @ Jul 31st 2009 1:12PM
Maybe, Xoon... I do like zombie movies and games... Just been busy studying for the Bar Exam to get this yet. LOL
Kinsey @ Jul 31st 2009 12:46PM
The caption going in says something like come see our hilarious zombies. From the 2 i saw they were funny, but thats all I saw ...... 2 ..... two bloody zombies in the whole space.
bastards

i have this game but it needs online multi or even a coop will do. Also there is no variety in the monsters (only 5) its just waves after waves... When i saw the first trailers i though you could walk in a large enviroment but its just a square :S
johnnynumber5 @ Jul 31st 2009 1:17PM
There are way more than 5 zombie types. Also, you can do offline multiplayer or local co-op in other words. I believe there are the same amount of weapon types as their are zombies. They also have three different game modes (arcade, time attack and the one where you protect the girl) and it's a very challenging game. It's pretty much impossible to get the developer challenges on any level IMO.
I've probably put close to 100 hours into this game since I bought it ... thats value! But, the difficulty is too hard because I still can't beat the secret lab stage on time attack. I can't even get the bronze medal.
xoonaka @ Jul 31st 2009 1:20PM
Wow, seriously?! That's some rough difficulty. Maybe it'll get a patch ala Eden or Monsters, if enough people buy it.
Trep @ Jul 31st 2009 1:41PM
I tried out the space yesterday. It's neat, but the maze is nearly impossible to get in. And then I've heard that when you're in the maze, the bushes are so low you can see the whole thing. If you complete it you get a shirt. yay!
Fane @ Aug 1st 2009 6:03AM
Is it as tough to get into as Siren? I haven't tried yet and won't bother if it is.I got into Siren (only) once and died within seconds. Oh well.

Hi, I am glad you are enjoying BZB, especially johnnynumber5 There is plenty more to come in Burn Zombie Burn after this pack. Also if you are having trouble playing the maze on home, be patient as it only allows 6 players at a time. The maze is quite easy, but yes, you can get killed by a zombie if you mess up or don’t complete it in 2 mins. Oh and there will be more to come in the home space too!

Could you guys please either lower the bronze score (1 MIL is current) or not make so many of the bomb zombies spawn in between the regular zombies? I'm talking about the secret lab stage on time attack.
I love this game. It's probably my favorite game this generation because it's fun, easy to learn, hard to master and hilarious. Saying I've put 100 hours into it is probably an understatement because I literally play it every-single-day.
Just look at my PSN profile: johnnynumber5 and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I have a few suggestions for future DLC or the sequel (crosses fingers) ... I would like to melee weapon types than just the two of them. Maybe something cool like a light saber where you could swing it in short bursts like the bat but instead of getting through large groups you could slaughter them.
I would also like to see some change in the scoring in some instances. For example, if I have the flame thrower and I make one of the bomb zombies explode I should get the points for all the zombies it blows up and I think players should get points when the level specific red button weapons are used (lasers in secret lab, ufo etc.)
Finally, I would like to see some of the elemental weapons but that are controllable. For example, maybe on one level you get a turret gun that spawns after 1 million consecutive points and lets you mow zombies down but runs out of ammo like the regular guns.
Hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining because I'm not trying to do that. I just love the game and my kids (7 year old twins) and my fiance love to watch me play it because we all get a kick out of how funny and campy the humor is. They also don't see how I can play as fast as I do and still understand what's going on. I just thought since you posted here I would give you some of my feedback especially since I'm such a fervent supporter of the game here on Joystiq.
I often say that a lot of these PSN games (BZB, Fat Princess, Crash Commando etc) are the best values in gaming because they are the closest thing to the old 8 & 16 bit era of gaming. The spiritual successors if you will. They give so much replay value and for such a great value in terms of price per play time that I mostly buy these games instead of a $60 retail game. I'll take 5 or so solid PSN titles rather than one $60 retail box any day of the week.
Keep up the good work at D6!
P.S. - The developer scores are nearly impossible to beat!
Ollie Barder @ Aug 3rd 2009 5:48AM
Hiya! I'm Ollie Barder, a senior designer at doublesix, and I scripted a lot of Burn Zombie Burn. The Secret Lab is meant to be tricky in regards to the usage of Exploder Zombies but we worked out the scores from lots of personal playtesting, so they're not plucked out of thin air. If you're still having trouble with Secret Lab we've done a video on YouTube that helps to explain how best to approach the level (though admittedly it's for Freeplay and not Timed, but the overall principles are still the same):

Thanks for the suggestions for future DLC content and if you have any more ideas feel free to drop us an e-mail: info@doublesixgames.com
The Dev Medals were also set by people on the team too (including me), so they're actual scores set by us. They aren't impossible to beat though, so don't give up!

Thanks Olli & James!
I scrolled back to this page just to see if someone had responded and sure enough you guys did do that. I saw that video on Youtube (even commented as Mcriggins) and I still think the Secret Lab on time attack is the hardest level in the game. I can handle it pretty effortlessly on free play because there isn't that pressure of having to come in under the time limit. I've literally played it over 100 times and my highest score is in the high 500 K's.
As I said I love the game and I love the concept but some of the difficulty is just damn near masochistic.
Online co-op would be a great addition either via DLC, patch or in a direct sequel.
As far as the developer scores - You guys did make the game so it's a bit different for you than an average player. I like a challenge as much as the next guy but having to get all of the developer medals to get all of the trophies seems a little on the impossible side. It's not like one singular guy at D6 did all those scores it was the highest score from a team of people. So, expecting one singular gamer to attain all those scores to get the last trophy just seems ... cruel.
I'll be sure to let you guys know of any concepts I can think of for future DLC that would fit within the framework of Burn Zombie Burn.
Thanks,
