Wizardry franchise revived on PS3, Nintendo DS

First is a PS3 game, to be published by Acquire. Details are slim, but Wizardry: Torawareshi Damashii no Meikyou (Wizardry: Dungeon of Imprisoned Souls) is supposedly hitting the Japanese PlayStation Network this Fall, according to a report by Siliconera. The release would mark the first time the Wizardry series becomes available on a current generation console.
Next up is a Nintendo DS game, Wizardry: Seimei no Kusabi (Wizardry: Pledge of Life). Supposedly, this will be a 3D dungeon RPG that will be available exclusively on Amazon Japan, almost guaranteeing high resale value on eBay for years to come.

Wow! Very good news as I love the Wizardry games. Just hope this gets released in English as well.

Let the dungeon crawling begin!

That's awesome...
Just last week I started playing Proving Grounds again using DOSBox on my Wii and wondered why they stopped making these games.

I was gonna say with Dark Spire and Etrian Odyssey doing well enough somebody should try and get Wizardry...and they did!!
Now someone get Bard's Tale: Tales of the Unknown (NES, PC ver. NOT PS2) and a proper English localization and I'll be set!

My first was Crusaders of the Dark Savant...Also played Proving Grounds...I would love to have them bring the PS3 one over here....I'd love to play Crusaders, but the last time I tired, the old floppy was corrupt...that was a sad day...

I was never a fan of the dungeon crawling "D&D" type games like this. I have a horrible sense of direction and always got so damn frustrated.
Bring back Zork and/or Adventure, that will make me happy :)

Don't put your hopes too high: the last Wizardry game on the DS ("Wizardry Asterisk: Hiiro no Fuuin" from 2005) also never was released outside Japan.

Thanks for the DosBox on the Wii tip, Phil. After playing (and being entranced by) games like Colossal Cave and Zork, the first Wizardry (Proving Grounds) was pure magic. I can't tell you how many hours I spent casting Tiltowait on Greater Demons hoping they'd drop some Lord's Garb or a Thieves' Dagger so I could turn my Thief into a Ninja!
