How to get Hulu back on your PS3
As much as we love our PS3s and as much as we love having the first three seasons of Three Sheets at our fingertips, this workaround that gets Hulu back up and running on the PS3 is still a bit much for us. We tried to read all the witchcraft, with its VMs and DNSes, but we got kinda headachey and had to lay down.
If you've got a stronger stomach (and are still avoiding services like PlayOn), give it a spin and let us know how it works out.

Yeah I'm a little confused by the instructions too...
Is there a hulu on ps3 for dummies version of this?
bboston7 @ Aug 12th 2009 2:51AM
Their is an easier way to do this that was posted when the ban was first put into effect. You could use the basic Squid Proxy configuration but just change the user agent string. You just needed to add one line of code to what was already written.
laurentburman @ Aug 13th 2009 1:44AM
just use PlayOn

Three Sheets is one of the best shows on the planet! I totally didnt know it was on hulu! My work days just got a lot less productive... I will direct my boss to you!
Heavytoka @ Aug 11th 2009 12:59PM

Steve @ Aug 11th 2009 12:53PM
Hulu doesn't work in the UK, so why bother?
Heavytoka @ Aug 11th 2009 1:03PM
This is way too much work, it's easier just to have a HTPC.

I gave up on the article after "small Linux virtual machine".

^ those are the kinds of words that make my stomach churn, along with "proxy"
djpenny1 @ Aug 11th 2009 1:12PM
holy fuck it works
Sho Minamimoto @ Aug 11th 2009 1:15PM
So is no one able to confirm this works?
lIonheart1505 @ Aug 11th 2009 1:18PM
Three Sheets is such an awesome show I came up with a song for it.
Three Sheets, you're going along about your day and then,
Three Sheets, you don't know what you're watching but you're drunk off your ass,
Three Sheets, the fact that you're on hulu means I don't have to have HD,
Three Sheets, let's go to Japan and drink it cowboy style - I love you Three Sheets.
Just think of Will Forte singing it
j.howlett @ Aug 11th 2009 1:24PM
i didn't use hulu enough to go through this trouble.
alvarocardenas @ Aug 11th 2009 1:27PM
Just go to sling.com and watch the shows there. sling.com works for the ps3.

One way to get Hulu up and running on the PS3 without any headaches is through the use of MediaMall Technologies PlayOn software. There is a 14 day free trial that lets you try it out without any limitations and it works flawlessly! You can purchase it for 39.99 which may seem rather steep but it also streams Netflix, YouTube, ESPN, CBS, CNN, and more!
Chris @ Aug 11th 2009 1:44PM
playon is pretty sweet. It streams adult swim, food network, southpark, hulu, netflix, HGTV, CBS, CNN, gametrailers TV, crackle, cartoon network...
and... *cough* redtube *cough*

PlayOn is possibly the best $40 I've spent on my PS3. I just wish they'd get Amazon video working.
juliusdeane (Jarret) @ Aug 11th 2009 1:48PM
Hulu works better than Netflix on PlayOn.
Tez @ Aug 11th 2009 6:01PM
Stop avoiding PlayOn, you bitches, it is an awesome product!
PlayOn @ Aug 11th 2009 7:19PM
Hi, at this point I feel compelled to remind everyone that PlayOn is only $39.99 and you get 14 days absolutely free to try it out. Hulu works awesome on the PS3 and Xbox using PlayOn.
Not that the above workaround doesn't look really fun. If you opt to go that route let me know how it goes. I'll be on my couch watching the latest Three Sheets episode. Here's where to get the trial. http://www.themediamall.com/playon/lp200907?rsrc=joystiq

It works. Had a ridiculously old system sitting here with some extra network cards. Step one was very informative. I had no clue I could set a second DNS in case the primary is down, which is the main thing that makes this a viable work-around, thus preventing you from having to reset the DNS each time you wanted to use Hulu and normal PS3 functions such as Online play, PSN store, ect while you use your old box running the work-around for other things. Run on sentence... anyway.
If you have the technical know-how, I definitely recommend this if you want to see Hulu on your favorite black box again. It could really be much more confusing, but honestly it's not too bad. I don't recommend people not familiar with Linux to try manual configuration, just use the virtual machine on your computer running Windows XP, which the PS3 should use to pull Hulu traffic from.
