Yes, you'll get PSP pre-order bonuses for PSN purchases
Sony's increasing focus on digital software distribution for PSP -- heck, it has a whole new model dependent on the concept -- has lead to a logical question: When pre-order bonuses are being offered for PSP games at retail, will one still get them if one buys the games from the online PlayStation Store? The answer is "yes," and the process will be quite simple.
According to a Sony rep's PS.Blog response to yesterday's news of MotorStorm Arctic Edge pre-order goodies, those who buy the game via PSN will be able to download the bonus content if they make their purchases within 30 days of the game's release. The same is true for pre-order extras being offered for the upcoming Gran Turismo for PSP. See, nice and simple.

man all these psp games coming out....they need to make PSP games playable on the PS3. I don't ride a bus, plane or train nearly enough to warrant buying a psp
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Aug 12th 2009 5:15PM
just no..
Luke @ Aug 12th 2009 5:23PM
@Solace:
And why not?
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Aug 12th 2009 5:25PM
then there be no point in having a PSP in the 1st place...
Paul @ Aug 12th 2009 5:32PM
well people can't play their PS3 on the bus. so I think people would still have a reason to have one.
Timstew @ Aug 12th 2009 5:41PM
I'll pay for a PSP emulator for a PS3 if Sony offered it. They'll get money for the cheap software emulator and future PSP game purchases without the pirating. Win win?
linebeginstoblur @ Aug 12th 2009 5:57PM
Yeah, I think they should stick to having PSP games just playable on the PSP. Otherwise, there would be no PSP sales. If you want to be able to play on the bus but also at home on a big screen, that's what the component cables for the PSP-2000+ are for.
Though they may see an increase in PSP software sales if an emulator were to happen, they would see significant failure in hardware sales. Here's what I mean: I have a friend who's really into the Metal Gear series. He has a PS3, but not a PSP, but he now is looking into buying one just for the forthcoming Peace Walker. If he could just download it onto the PS3, Sony just lost a PSP sale, and since he can't be the only one in that place, think of all the potential money lost.

it's 140 bucks for the 2000 model in dell.com you can't buy a psp that's worth less than the dsi and has more features than it???
Deaddy @ Aug 12th 2009 5:27PM
That would be very cool, but it will never happen. I'd probably play and buy more PSP games if that was an option, though.
linebeginstoblur @ Aug 12th 2009 5:48PM
That actually sounds like a damn good way to handle it.
Ashitaka @ Aug 12th 2009 7:07PM
That's actually pretty smart on Sony's part. MediaMolecule did about the same thing with the Spacesuit Launch Costume.
KinjiroSSD @ Aug 12th 2009 9:38PM
So you don't have to pre-order? Just as long as you purchase the game 30 days from launch you get the content?
Josh @ Aug 12th 2009 9:38PM
What kinds of pre-order bonuses are these?
If they're like figures and stuff, uh.. downloading them isn't going to work.
KinjiroSSD @ Aug 12th 2009 9:52PM
In this case, a bonus vehicle to use in the game. My question is if they are removing the pre-order aspect for PSN versions or will you be able to pre-order through PSN.
scratch @ Aug 12th 2009 9:38PM
they should totally put out a PSP emulator for PS3! i would buy it just for valkyria chronicles 2 if nothing else.
but if you think about it, they make most of their money on software anyways, not hardware (though im guessing they make more on the psp than on the ps3). so the increased software sales would probably help, rather than hurt. and there are still plenty of ppl that would get psps because of the whole portable part. and developers would probably appreciate the larger audience...
Rocks @ Aug 12th 2009 10:29PM
wow, kudos to sony on this.
this actually a step in the right direction.
PN04 @ Aug 13th 2009 1:09AM
So wait. what about the bonus in the PSP persona box? Art books and music CDs from a third party publisher?? okay I can understand the need to keep people from feeling left out in terms of bonuses, so it's probably more directed towards games that offer actual download codes inthe box more than anything else, because they obviously arent going to put CDs on a FTP server and hand out highres JPGs and offer a coupon for a free binding at kinkos or something.

this does work great in moving to digital distribution. i actually read the response on the ps blog
Tridrakious @ Aug 13th 2009 1:46PM
I think this is a great thing that Sony is doing. Awesome.
