PSP Go priced at GBP 224.99 in the U.K.
It looks like Sony isn't following the ever-popular "give U.K. products the same numerical price as U.S. products and pretend the value of their monetary denominations are equal" strategy for the PSP Go. Instead, Sony's attached a £224.99 price tag to the slide-screened handheld -- which is still considerably more expensive than £179.99, the very first PSP's U.K. price point.
Still, it's a well-known fact the good people of the United Kingdom possess an unnatural, caveman-esque fear of Universal Media Discs -- we're sure they won't mind shilling out the extra poundage.

don't they also get a free GT psp???
shane @ Aug 19th 2009 1:36PM
Yes, it's compensation for getting butt raped by conversion rates.
Adam @ Aug 19th 2009 1:38PM
Yeah, we do get GT PSP free, but it is only £5 less than the 360 Elite, and £25 less than the PS3 Slim.
The main thing that I want to know now is the details of the "good-will scheme," if that satisfies me, then I will splash out and get a go, it is just so small and beautiful, and getting rid of that annoying disc spinning noise

"we're sure they won't mind shilling out the extra poundage."
Yeah cos "us brits" are just made of money.
Also, we don't get anything for free, as such. Register the game between 2 dates lands you a free copy of GT PSP. Sod anyone that doesn't get the PSP Go between those dates. I think it's something like 1st OCt - 10th OCT. Seeing as I'll be getting one at Xmas, when the bonuses roll out, I'll get sweet f**k all for free.
Just an annual butt raping :-)

This does not bode well.
Makes me think the Ps3 Slim might not even get a price drop in the UK....
Think about it, 299 dollors = 180 pounds, at the moment. Why on earth would the PSPGo be only 25 pounds less than the slim? O.o Makes no sense. Pair that with the European Price of 299 Euros, = over 400 dollars at the minute.
Looking likely the price drop will be 250 at the most. Too little too late.
To think I was dead happy that all my friends would finally pick one up...
We are getting shafted. So much its almost worth importing it. In fact if it's a bundle, it IS worth importing it.
Jake @ Aug 19th 2009 1:55PM
I also meant to add. I knew thinking that 199 pounds for a price tag was too good to be true.
I'll accept 225 at least. Only no. That' wont happen. Woo hoo....
Livi70590 @ Aug 19th 2009 3:29PM
FAO: Sony Computer Entertainment.
£1 = US$1.65 = €1.16
£1 != US$1.2 != €1
That is all.

Can I ask a question, Do Europeans make a wage, such as like 2 euros a day, or something... or is it something else. Also I know America has a horrible economy compared to Europe. Why are the prices for European stuff so high?

It's called "Rip Off Britain" and boils down to the fact that corporations see us in this wet and windy land as a bunch of suckers who will pay one and a half times more for stuff than everyone else.
Adobe is the worse culprit of this.
Unfortunately, since we don't have any other way to get it, we obligingly pony up the cash - which validates the view of the corporations that we're happy to do this and so they keep it up.
Many defences by these corporations include VAT (which even when taken into account still doesn't explain the disparity), translation (which is stupid since a couple of extra "u"'s and the odd swapping of a "z" isn't a lot of work - plus they don't really have to do that or redub the voices if they don't want to, we're fine with US TV and films) and extra shipping costs (which is also stupid since most of the stock comes from China where it's about the same distance to the USA as it is to the UK).
In short, we get shafted, the corporations know we put up with it and so we continue to get shafted.

It truly beggars belief that Sony think people will pay that much for that technology. If my psp2000 dies Ill by another from ebay I sure as hell wont take one up the rear from Sony and buy a go
Besh @ Aug 22nd 2009 3:02PM
Tesco's (online) are accepting pre-order of the psp go for £200, still alot but saves anyone thinking of getting it a bit of money!
MrXile @ Aug 28th 2009 12:52PM
RIP OFF
£30 more for a full PS3 Slim.
Shocking.
Lookhappy @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:49AM
Lol!
I will most definately not bother with a PSP go!
I may invent a new model called the PSP-Gofuckyourself!
And price it at £600. because I definately think the way to get your handheld console a good foothold in the market is to price it the same or more than home consoles.
Gadget marketing fail!
stuart stow @ Sep 4th 2009 12:48AM
i think the price is way off. It's not like its new technology its just a revamp and ive picked up a like new ipod touch 16GB on ebay for £124.
Amazingmike @ Sep 10th 2009 3:38PM
I agree. This is around what, $400 when converted into dollars? Even I thought the $250 price tag of the American retail version was ridiculous, but this is just effing insane. Really puts spending even $50 on a retail game into perspective for me, when they're paying about double as much.
Marco le Polo @ Oct 1st 2009 7:52PM
Sorry U.K., Sony Ex's have to put food on the table you know!
