Take pictures and launch any game you want in Home 1.3, coming this fall
Looks like PlayStation Home is growing up. Moving well beyond its original beta status, Home will reach version 1.3 this fall. The "serious upgrade" will add a number of features to the online PSN community. Most importantly is universal game launching, which finally gives players the ability to jump into any PS3 game directly from Home. Tired of shopping for virtual clothes? You can relax by jumping into a session of Noby Noby Boy, if you'd like.
Another nifty feature is a brand new in-world camera that allows you to snap pictures of Home happenings. This will be a free update for all of Home's denizens, so don't whip out your PlayStation wallet just yet. Best of all, the pictures you take in Home will be stored on your PS3's hard drive, so you can relive your best virtual dance moves whenever you'd like.
Speaking of dance moves, Home will also feature a few more emotes for your avatar to take advantage of. Finally! We can go totally Harvey Dent on people and flip a coin. For all the small details, read more on the PlayStation.Blog.

Finally getting universal game launching!
Kodros @ Aug 19th 2009 9:09PM
I'm assuming that Universal Game Launching acts just like it would if you could pop open the XMB within Home. Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, Home previously had this. I remember kicking off any game within Home. Once you quit the game, it would pop you back into Home. It's not really exciting at all.
The nice Game Launching system is, sadly, rarely used. Motorstorm, Warhawk, Resident Evil 5, and one or two others allow you to create the multiplayer game within the Home interface. You are given all of the same options that you would get in the game. Then you would launch directly into the multiplayer match.
Mo @ Aug 20th 2009 11:09AM
with universal game launching home will not = fail anymore
it is arguably the main purpose for anyone to get into home, with everything else being time wasters waiting for your friends to sign in, so you can all launch.
I sure as shit hope this is will have a cross xmb home party system incorporated into it.
wow, cant wait!
Mo @ Aug 20th 2009 11:13AM
game launching is the only needed feature and honestly I am surprised open beta launched with out it.
Without game launching, everyone was justified in saying home is kinda useless and boring.
with game launching, home will be where you can often find me.
Game launching is home's killer app... the rest is just stuff to keep u busy in between launches.
If this is an integrated party system, with voice chat that carries into the game, and dumps you and your buddies back into home when youre done... its going to be golden!!
Mo @ Aug 20th 2009 12:21PM
oh never mind, its just a shortcut to launch the game from your pda in home.... functionality that home had but then took away... and have now apparently brought back...
its cool... i guess
I guess that means for the time being. home still = fail
and thats from a ps head
SolidSnakeX @ Sep 1st 2009 8:08PM
Who cares still no IN GAME MUSIC OR CROSS IN GAME CHAT DAMN IT!..And this last update was crap.. Where is the our Movie previews? or better yet what the rest of the world gets jezz!!! And I'm sorry the American HOME is complete Garbage annoying kids and stupid immature people is not fun!!.. Where is the original people 18-40 age group for this Beta? nah its all damn kids now. there maybe in the European and Asian version of HOME....... WHERE PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO ACT THERE AGE!
Longhorn Slim @ Aug 19th 2009 8:08PM
Now all we need is that trophy display room
Woz @ Aug 19th 2009 8:34PM
I would probably be sure to actually log into home once in awhile if I could visit my own virtual trophy room.
Jerses @ Aug 19th 2009 8:21PM
This is great!!! but, what happened to the studio set? Universal gaming!!! nice!!!
i still need is the ability to play my own music even if its just for myself.
it will be great too if you can add youre home character to your avatar in the ps3.
Jerses @ Aug 19th 2009 8:21PM
Also, they should add a boob control. Every woman in home are well build (and its not bad) but what happens if a guy likes loli or big boobs?! ...eeerr i mean what if a girl have small or big ones and want her character look like irl?
Tridrakious @ Aug 19th 2009 8:30PM
Nice to see new features added. Not just game spaces.
M0N5TER @ Aug 19th 2009 9:10PM
universal game launching: So is that like the Xbox live party system, where the voice chat carries over to games? Now that would be nice.
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Aug 19th 2009 9:19PM
Yeah I'm so pissed off right now.. seriously gives us a XMB Party System and game launch and not this bullshit.. PlayStation Network and the XMB should be the #1 priority NOT HOME
Paul @ Aug 19th 2009 9:36PM
man they need to make home more like little big planet. get some sack people in there sony. and have customization on a LBP level.
home would be cool if it there was 50 sack people running around playing grab ass!
it's so boring looking at the moment.
in fact now that I'm thinking they should just replace the XMB with one of those LBP style presentations they had last year at e3. They could have a little cardboard store with dynamic stickers as ads for the newest games. a movie theater with a billboard that has a few movie titles on it. an arcade with game stickers. they could have a LBP style PS3 for settings....
these are golden ideas here people. lets get this ball rolling.
Confucius @ Aug 19th 2009 9:38PM
Great now alls we need is XMB music.
j.howlett @ Aug 19th 2009 9:44PM
game launching, universally
eNrique @ Aug 19th 2009 10:19PM
Now xbots can stop bitching and bragging about their party system.
Ohhhh and I forgot the $50 per year / person.
Ethan Fricker @ Aug 19th 2009 10:29PM
wait does game launching mean you can jump into a game with others? or does it just mean by yourself
for example can i meet up with a friend and jump into a game of fifa wit him
dice (psn: dicea55) @ Aug 19th 2009 11:58PM
With others, you could jump into a game of fifa with your friends or any other random person on home that also has fifa
eNrique @ Aug 19th 2009 10:32PM
I think the only thing separating PSN from live, is cross game chat (useless for me).
Ohhhh and the $50 per year / PERSON.
JewUnit666 @ Aug 19th 2009 10:35PM
u cant forget the all important covering the screen ads
Paul @ Aug 19th 2009 11:30PM
it has "join a friend's session in progress" and "invite a friend to current game" and quality voicechat
those are the big ones.
PSN's voice chat is passable but it's not at the same quality. but hey it's free!
d1srupt0r @ Aug 20th 2009 12:40AM
What I'm waiting for is the Screen-Capture feature within any game.
Ashitaka @ Aug 20th 2009 9:06AM
That IS available, just like xmb music is. But It's always up to the developers to implement it.
I'd like it to be a standard among all PS3 games, Sony will do something about it someday as it did with Trophies.
d1srupt0r @ Aug 20th 2009 12:42AM
What I'm really waiting for is the Screen-Capture feature within any game.
Mo @ Aug 20th 2009 11:10AM
u just said that ;-)
Pat @ Aug 20th 2009 4:31AM
Nice set of features. Good job Sony. I am specially looking forward to the "increase cache size" option. That will speed up moving between environments quite a lot.
Mo @ Aug 20th 2009 11:11AM
SERIOUSLY!
Pantsparty @ Aug 20th 2009 7:22AM
Still no cross game chat? Not interested.
PSN is still lacking.
Ashitaka @ Aug 20th 2009 9:07AM
Crawl back to your bridge, troll.
Oh, and enjoy spending your $50 a year, douchebag.
Pantsparty @ Aug 20th 2009 10:06AM
I'm fine with paying $50 a year for a service with lots of cool features that make it worth it.
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Aug 20th 2009 10:11AM
yeah twitter and facebook is REALLY a cool feature and dont forget internet radio which the PS3 can all do from its FREE web browser... so go back to your FAIL BOX
Mo @ Aug 20th 2009 11:11AM
so go comment about how much the psn sucks on xbox live tagged articles...
we dont care here
Boondocks @ Aug 20th 2009 10:19AM
@Ashitaka
Your the douchebag if you don't see the value of how easy it is to get into games with friends on Live. Your an obvious fanboy. For the record I have both systems and don't mind my average of $3.25 a month for Live. You should be pissed that you don't have some of the funcionality that Xbox has because if you did you would see what your missing out on.
Ashitaka @ Aug 20th 2009 7:15PM
" I don't mind my average of $3.25 a month for Live."
Good for you. Enjoy the ripping off.
"You should be pissed that you don't have some of the funcionality that Xbox has because if you did you would see what your missing out on."
I usually play singleplayer games and even when I play multiplayer games, I usually do it against complete strangers, so I don't think I'm missing out on anything, You xbots keep touting that feature as the -ultimate- end-all feature but guess what; it's not.
Pantsparty @ Aug 20th 2009 3:07PM
I'm not saying it sucks. It just needs improvement.
Also, I have a PS3 and I'm connected to PSN. Don't take this as an X-Bot just browsing PlayStation articles to bag on PSN.
bub @ Aug 20th 2009 11:21PM
i agree with you pantsparty, who cares about home. by the time its loaded up i could of played 2 games of cod4 on my own without some idiot tht home is full of shouting stupid stuff down his mic, i want in game chat so i can chat with REAL FRIENDS!!!!!! and $50 a year 4 xbox live aint bad at all its like 15p a day, if ur that poor go take a walk 2 gamestop, u will find it on the way
SolidSnakeX @ Sep 2nd 2009 6:40AM
there stupid dumb asses who are uneducated I guess plus they don't give a F what we gamers want! CROSS IN GAME CHAT AND IN GAME MUSIC FOR FUCS SAKES!!!!
Daffy Duck @ Sep 5th 2009 5:19AM

Dayum, jostiq. I see what you did there.

Umm. you people requesting in-game music need to PAY ATTENTION! If SONY put this in for every game, they'd be in with a lawsuite with Microsoft immediately. Then they'd force them to unlock all their movies blocked on Xbox Netlfix. HaHa. Just go to http://www.Bing.com type in: PS3 Xbox Patent Music.
Read all about it and stop whining already! It's not going to happen thanks to Microsoft. Just like Neftlix Xbox will NEVER get 40% of their movie library thanks to SONY owning those studios and not letting them on Xbox. They'll have to get over that.
It's business, and gives people a reason to buy certain consoles. SONY has time and time again told you people that developers can put in a simple code for custom tracks in their games. Obviously, that's not something developers want to do, and hate you can do it on Xbox because they work really hard on those background sounds to just have them thrown out the window so you can listen to Blink 182 and Lil' Wayne. Where do they fit into Call of Duty? haha Games liek RB2, Killzone 2, and Resistance 2 in PlayStation 3 let you listen to your own soundtracks.
You should be able to "Phone Friend" and then "Setup Conference Call" in PS Home to start your party and have the voice chat run through that way. That seems like the easiest method to do it to do dedicated chat, even if it's not cross game yet. What's the purpose of talking to someone playing flower when you're playing KillZone 2?
David Kosiba @ Nov 13th 2009 1:22AM
Yeah I saw this information on http://www.BF3Nation.com
