First Gran Turismo 5 screenshots released
It's still hard for us to believe that Gran Turismo 5 is actually getting closer to completion. After years of teases and updates to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Polyphony Digital has finally released the first ever official screenshots of the upcoming retail game.
The screenshots aren't particularly revealing. In fact, nothing was quite as telling as the game's trailer from E3 this year. Also, the screens look terrific -- but don't be surprised if they resemble Prologue quite a bit.
In addition to the first ever screens of Gran Turismo 5 for PS3, SCEA has also provided brand new real screens (unlike the renders provided earlier this year) of the upcoming Gran Turismo for PSP.

I have GT fever!
Autobot @ Sep 1st 2009 2:42PM
I like the GT5 Prologue main menu a little better but other than that, this is a first day purchase for me. (Whenever that may be.)
Lambrick @ Sep 1st 2009 4:48PM
same here. it may not be much but i'm eating up these screenshots like a starved hobo.

I can't wait!

Both games look simply amazing. OMG I hope the rumor that Gran Turismo 5 releases this year turns out to be true. What a Christmas it would be with Gran Turismo 5 & GT:PSP, Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed 2 & Modern Warfare 2.
I need to go find a new pair of pants now ... I seem to have spilled something on the inside of them.

I must say the screens look hot. I happen to get paid on the 15th and I notice that is when Need For Speed Shift drops. I see myself making that purchase because I don't have the slighest clue as when this will really hit. If only GT5 could come soon, and help me save the money.

Rumors are rampant that the game will release around Christmas time this year. I think the new Slim price drop with the launching of Gran Turismo 5 will make for a huge holiday season for Sony. I'm assuming if the rumor is true they haven't announced the game yet because they don't want to take any wind out of the GT:PSP's sails.

Hopefully they'll bundle it with a wheel

My local Gamestation told me that it would be released on December 4th when I bought my Batman Arkham Asylum. I said "Official?", the guy confirmed that this was the real deal.
And Uncharted is October 23rd, apparently.

First day buy, for both PS3 and PSP versions (actually will get 2 of the PSP version, as my son and I can race/trade cars together...)
I expect the PS3 version to be much the same as Prologue (that isn't a bad thing at all), but the PSP version is what I'm really looking forward to. Awesome!
Pat @ Sep 1st 2009 3:29PM
I'm looking forward to GT5, specially after reading about some of the new features including being able to control the movement of the camera in the cockpit view using head tracking with the PSEye.
Viney @ Sep 1st 2009 6:01PM
How does that work? Turn your head to turn the camera? Because I could imagine that being a pain if that's the case, and I can't think of any other kind of head movement that would seem natural to see something to your right or left. It's one thing to turn your head to see something actually to the right or left of you, but wouldn't that just be annoying if you had to move your head, yet keep your eye trained forward at the tv?
Pat @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:11AM
@ Viney
I don't know at this point. It appeared in a press release post GamesCom where Polyphony detail the game's fetures including the crash deformation system. The mentioned the control of the cockpit view (if you want) through the PSEye. But if I had to guess I'd say it is something like this link (minus the home brew technology) where just a slight rotation of the head moves a little bit further the camera so you don't need to take your eyes completely from the screen (try at 43 seconds):

From your perspective it would look something like this:

We'll have to wait a bit more. I'm pretty sure Poluphony will show something at TGS.
Pat @ Sep 1st 2009 3:34PM
Something that is not shown in the PSP images section is that the portable version has as well a cockpit view which looks very good:

These shots are around a month old now. News arrives slow here alot of the time which is annoying. Anything Gran Turismo related will get posted on GTPlanet.net straight away. Information is power.
johnson412 @ Sep 1st 2009 5:02PM
Nobody's been saying anything, and I don't know why, but am I the only one that's bummed that you can only race against 3 other cars in GTPSP? I mean, I'm still going to buy it, simply because I'm a GT-aholic and have zero racing sims for my PSP right now, but it still sucks. Would have liked to see them forgo the cockpit view so you could get at least 6 or 8 cars per race.
Phil @ Sep 1st 2009 5:22PM
The only screen from the PSP that didn't absolutely wow me was #13.
It looks like the long wait was worth it.
stormtrooper190 (IcelandTerrorist) @ Sep 4th 2009 5:49PM
lovin the thexter avatar you have!
Phil @ Sep 4th 2009 11:18PM
Thank you.
Obviously I am VERY excited about Sqeenix reviving the Thexder franchise.
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 1st 2009 7:07PM
They actually had this game completed 2 years ago. The delay is because they then had to play it through to test for glitches. Nice to see they've finally unlocked this GTR to take some pictures for us!
HDpurist @ Sep 1st 2009 7:24PM
I'll get GT PSP instantly for free when I buy PSP GO.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Sep 1st 2009 8:43PM
I need to see more. Exciting but. I'm sure it will be regarded as the best racer of the generation...unless we see gt6 this cycle.
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2009 8:56PM
i'm terrible at racing sims and i'm tempted to get this.
nakedatthecomp @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:51AM
i wanna stick my dick in it!
...what?
PLD_Exander_FFXI:Online @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:50PM
looks Beautiful as always. GT series has always pushed the graphics of cars and tracks to the limits on every system it debuted on. Take a look at GT3 A-Spec and GT4. Both are very Beautiful games. I'm happy that they added crash looks and damage effects into this game thou. That always used to bug me.
Chris @ Nov 2nd 2009 12:24AM
Im a big GT Fan but one thing that dissapoints me about GT and i see that they still left it out of GT5 is the abilitiy to modify the appearance of the cars I mean you can change the rims and put a spoiler on it but appart from that GT leaves that area in my heart void. But i will still deffinatly get GT5.
