Trine 'stuck' in Quality Assurance testing, dev unsure of release date
Remember that game Trine? The summer is quickly coming to a close, and we've yet to see the innovative multiplayer platformer hit the PlayStation Network. What happened to the game, and why isn't it out yet?
Develpoer Frozenbyte's CEO Lauri Hyvärinen spoke with GameSetWatch and said the game has been stalled due to Sony's rigorous QA testing. "On consoles it takes weeks, even months if the game gets stuck in the technical quality testing stuff. It's not anybody's fault really, and it guarantees a better end product, but the time it takes can be frustrating."
Frustration? We certainly didn't notice that in our comments section! Unfortunately, Hyvärinen doesn't have much to console us. According to Frozenbyte, they're as in the dark about the release as we are: "I think we are waiting for the PSN release just as much as gamers out there." Hopefully, Trine will see release soon -- before the holiday's big guns start hogging all our attention.

Regardless of the holiday big guns, I'm getting this. The more offline co-op games, the better! This game looks great, and though I'm glad Sony has this kind of quality control going on, I want to see the game sell well, so a September release is really important. Let's hope they approve it soon!

totally agree

Agreed. non-split-screen same-room co-op, are all big pluses in my book.
Because of the delay, this is now the "holiday season" game I'm looking forward to the most.
Speaking of the holiday season, I'm glad for all the AAA title delays. I don't know about the rest of you, but for me, the holidays mean money is tight since I'm buying presents for everyone... and I don't think anyone has bought me a game since I was a little kid. So, holiday titles wind up going on my "I'll get it someday, maybe" list.

I'm kinda interested in this game, but I don't know if it'll be worth my money. Does anyone know how long will it be? Any extra modes, or multiplayer? I remember reading it would have co-op...

There are plenty of reviews and impressions of the PC release. As far as I know, there's no additional content for the PSN release, so the info you want is out there, waiting for you.

Yea, I would get this game in a heartbeat if it had ONLINE co-op. But right now I don't have anyone local to play with--girlfriend isn't into gaming (sad face : ( )
Offline co-op is nice, but it'd be nice if it had online if you ask me. Without it, I have to contemplate buying it...

I'll be getting this, but only to fill the void that Shadow Complex's exclusivity. I pray that in a year's time it might make the jump a la Castle Crashers and Braid but I'm doubtful.
solarshadows074 @ Sep 1st 2009 11:14PM
castle crasher AND braid are coming to PSN as well. they had been announced weeks ago.

Sounds like it's not going to make it until December. -_-

Delays due to QA is fine by me. I'd rather wait and play a solid game, than receive it early and be extremely annoyed by bugs.
I wish that Fallout 3 could have been delayed before it was released. Of all the games I own, it contains the most bugs by far. Occasional missing facial textures, game freezes, quest enemies there but not there, etc. It's an awesome game, but damn those bugs are frustrating! I'm not talking about the radroaches either. Hopefully up and coming DLC means they'll release a patch.

Yeah, Fallout 3 does have a lot of bugs. Have you played Sacred 2, though? I think it has more bugs than Fallout 3. It freezes too, has weird graphical glitches often, there are spots on the map that are unfinished (they forgot to finish making a lake, so the water just ends halfway across the lake), etc. Also, Red Alert has major problems as well: sound totally cuts out about 50% of the time when loading from a save (I've talked to others online who have the same problems with the game). I love these games and play them a ton, but I wish QA had caught these bugs before the games were released. I actually stopped playing Red Alert because I got so sick of reloading saves, hoping my audio would work.
I'm thankful that Sony has some serious QA going on for the PSN titles. I feel more confident downloading games on the PSN lately than purchasing games from huge developers, since the publishers for the big titles push them to release earlier than they're ready.
kentuckyfried @ Sep 2nd 2009 3:17AM
Considering how massive a 4-year project it was, it's rather solid. Sacred 2, comparatively is completely fubared.

I bet my ass the X360 release will be out before the PSN one...

I was just thinking about this game the other day. I was wondering what happened. It seemed like release was eminent 2 months ago.
fundando @ Sep 2nd 2009 3:06PM
I downloaded the PC demo for this and I am definitely looking forward to it's PS3 release. I can wait.
