Sony to offer voice recognition, image enlargement tech in upcoming SDK

Another tech developed by Sony allows the PS3 and PSP to quickly zoom in on massive images. Already used in a Japanese release calendar program (available for free from the Japanese PlayStation Store), this technology streams massive amounts of visual data -- including video -- quickly and scales it appropriately. Like the SingStar voice recognition tools, this tech will be available for developers in an upcoming SDK update. We're not exactly sure how games will be able to take advantage of this, but it certainly looks impressive.
Check out videos after the break.

Keep it coming Sony. The more of this type of groundbreaking technology coming to PS3 SDK's will only be a plus imo.

shame they'll only be used in a few exclusives, thats something we all know.
man i wish sony's was the only console out there, gaming would be at least 5 years ahead

The High-Resolution Enlargement Technology looks pretty cool, much like Google Earth.
As for the Voice Recognition, it's just one less exclusive feature for Natal to offer. Nice!

I think the high resolution enlargement technology will make for great use in games like Gran Turismo. I would love to just browse through some car catalogs, view videos, and visit the manufacturer's website.
Can anyone think of other great uses for the technology?

Wow, that was a lot more impressive to watch than it sounded on paper. Very interesting that the PSP could do it as well. I hope the web works like this one day.

The voice recog is great but i have to say that I am more impressed with the image zooming. To see it work that quickly and seamlessly even on the PSP is incredible.
I can see one page magazines, that zoomed out look like a traditional magazine cover but zoom in and find all the articles embedded in the original picture.
If they could incorporate this scaling tech to their web browser that would be simply fantastic.

Devs already don't bother with custom soundtracks or screenshots, so this will likely be on that pile of stuff that devs don't HAVE to do and therefore won't bother with.
Also, I'd really like the voice recognition thing to come to the system itself for the XMB in an update sometime. Being able to say a specific command and go to a specific part of the menu (like "video" or "game" would be as fast or faster than using a controller and it would make me for some interesting stares when I play a movie over thanksgiving and pause it by yelling over my speakers like a d-bag in a theater.
Also, that zoom tech was friggin' amazing.
