Sony may have been busy
talking up the PSP Go (and its
ridiculous accessories) during
TGS, but it looks like the company hasn't forgotten the Go's older brother. Beginning October 1, the original PSP will receive a fifteen percent price drop in Japan, lowering the price to ¥16,800 (~$185). While it might seem a little strange for Sony to lower the price of the PSP just prior to the launch of the already overpriced PSP Go,
Bloomberg rightly points out that the cut will place the PSP at a lower price than Nintendo's monstrously successful DSi.
For now, the price cut remains exclusive to Japan. Joystiq has contacted Sony to find out whether it plans to share the love with the rest of the world.

Great Sony, don't bother dropping the PSP Go's price though, whatever, we're all rich and can buy these things... well actually I have the money saved up to buy one but i changed my mind earlier this week, iPhone it is then.

well you still have the option to buy a PSP3000 at a low price...
I don't get all of this complaining about the go. It's not like they are pulling some apple shit and discontinuing the older model as soon as the newer one comes out.

Don't worry we will see the token price drop for Go just in time to see the 32 gig model by the end of March and the slide show presentation at E3 2010 for PSP2 which will be available at Christmas 2010 with a significant price drop for the remaining 3000 models

We'll see a price drop someday. Original or Go. Just gotta wait until stores start complaining about overstocked, unsold PSP Go systems.

the first day stock of 6 Go's sitting in Big W yesterday are still sitting there. And that's a $50 off the RRP.
hardly a successful launch day response.
i'd wait.. these are going to get cheaper sooner rather than later. the tempters to get you to buy in the first 10 days will only get better the longer the stock sit there.
i looked at it yesterday and decided another ipod touch with 32g is a better deal for the same money.
it's still easier to carry around the ipod, the touchscreen works a treat on games i like, the motion controller is accurate too and the media requirements are so much more flexible.
when Sony talk about MPEG4 and H264 capabilities, they never mention they crippled them to such a tight, select subset group that you end up having to convert everything again. the bigger my library of converted films get, the less reason i have to swap over to something else.
now the ipod touch has a speaker and faster gen2 processor, it is way better as a portable gaming device. just need an external keypad to give hard key players an excuse to buy one. yes, there are games a real keypad would suit better but they listened about the external volume controls so i wouldn't put it past Apple to release something soon now they are proving how viable a gaming platform this device is.
