PSP digital copies included with select Sony Pictures Blu-ray releases

Sony Pictures is trying something different -- and extremely PlayStation-centric -- with its upcoming movie releases on Blu-ray. Home Media Magazine reports that select titles from the label will include a digital copy of the film on the disc that can only be played on a PSP -- in fact, the only way to transfer the movie to a PSP will be via a PlayStation 3.
The first release to incorporate a PSP-only digital copy -- the utterly amazing American Godzilla -- storms streets on November 3. The Ugly Truth, which hits on Blu-ray the following Tuesday, will also feature a PSP version of the film, but will bundle a separate DVD-ROM containing a traditional digital copy that will work on a variety of devices.
It'll be interesting to see what (if any) effect this new strategy will have on PlayStation Store downloads of movies for PSP, especially if Sony Pictures ends up taking this route with most of its releases -- or even if other studios follow suit.

Love the Godzilla series. Have watched all the movies and I love the American Godzilla as well. This is great for me, and I have the Bluray already reserved at Amazon.

What they are saying is that some Sony Pictures Blu-ray releases are going to have PSP Exclusive digital copies, so if you don't have a PSP you don't get it.

Your PSP FW has nothing to do with that ability I would think unless there is some program that reads iTunes DRMd formats.
Of course you could just take the digital copies, unDRM them via requiem or what have you and put it on your PSP. Regardless of what FW you're running the digital copies will play on your PSP if you remove the DRM.
I do not like the fact that they give no option of getting the PSP digital copy without a PS3 though, that's kinda BS. Having the PSP Digital copy on the BD and then a separate "normal" digital copy is the way to go IMO.
Actually, no DRM ever is the way to go IMO, but no one listens to me.

How about just enabling RemotePlay for DVDs and Blurays?
It's not theft when you're watching YOUR movies on YOUR hardware. What's their problem? Afraid people are going to use a packet sniffer to steal a low res, low quality copy that'd only work on a PSP, if you managed to decrypt the remoteplay handshake to make your PC pretend to be a PS3?
We can just rip the discs in Linux on a PS3 much easier than that.

does anyone else find it utterly underwhelming that the first one is going to be the american Godzilla?

Whatever happened to being able to copy any Blu Ray movie to the PSP through the PS3? I hope that wasn't scrapped.

What ever happened to being to copy any Blu Ray movie to the PSP through the PS3 firmware update? I hope they didn't scrap it.

2. It's gonna be on Blu-ray
3. I get a digital copy for my PSP
4. AND a digital copy for the iPod
$30 Blu-ray's too pricey? Hell to the no.

The American Godzilla movie is at $17, Blu-ray preorder, on Amazon (US), so half of that!

Hasn't Sony already done this with a few Blu-Ray titles? I have a copy of Pineapple Express on Blu-Ray, and it comes with Digital Copy for PSP. What I don't understand is why Sony decides to do this now? I mean, doesn't Sony pretty much own Blu-Ray? Why not include Digital Copy since day one? There are a ton of movies i wish i could put on my PSP but can't because it only works through iTunes. The Dark Knight, Slumdog Millionaire, The Matrix etc. come with Digital Copy but womt work on PSP. At a $30 price point, I think I deserve Digital Copy for my PSP

I am glad to see that Sony is doing this.
I tried Digital Copy when it first came out but one looked like garbage on my PSP and another didn't play at all. I had since given on it. It was less hassle/better quality to just rip the movie myself.
I love this service to change my mind.

I always liked you Sony

Will this be the like the shitty DRM-filled one-time download only digital copies, or will you be able to download it again and again as many times as you want?
