Home 1.3 update freezing systems, workaround offered
The biggest update to PlayStation Home since its public beta debut went live not too long ago. However, the transition hasn't been as smooth as many hoped. There are sporadic reports of system hangs during the initialization screen, post 1.3 update. While EndSights says "many systems" are affected, it seems likely the problem is isolated to a minority of PlayStation Home users.
According to Home Manager Locust_Star, a few items in the virtual world may be causing the hiccups. Items like the Namco Bandai Love Seat, Fat Princess Throne and Ghostbusters Bagel are amongst the few suspected to be causing crashes. Until a proper patch is implemented, the PlayStation team recommends deleting and reinstalling PlayStation Home. Erasing Home data from the Save Data Utility may also help PlayStation gamers that are desperate to log into the virtual world.
Let us know if you've been affected by the latest Home update, and if these workarounds, um, work.

I'm having a freezing issue, but I don't have any of those items (that I know of).
Now, would deleting the home data mean you have to set up your character from scratch, or is that information stored on Sony's servers?
Heavytoka @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:10PM
Just highlight the home Icon, hit triangle and delete, reinstall it and it should work and all your stuff plus Avatar will still be there.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:53PM
lol...I think if I had issues because I had the Namco Bandai Love Seat, I'd never admit to it.
Chris @ Oct 3rd 2009 10:28AM
Just tried it - I have the same issue.
Razorbak86 @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:41PM
My PS Home 1.3 update froze during the initialization screen 3 times last night. Had to force a hard reboot each time to regain control of the console. (I have the 80 GB, non-backwards-compatible, phat model purchased last Christmas, but I don't have any of the three items mentioned in the blog post.)
My ultimate solution was to delete the prior version and then install 1.3 from scratch. Voila! Problem solved.
mza49311 @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:42PM
I too had an issue with the freezes last night, I found on the official forums the work around, deleted from the home icon, reinstalled from the icon, made it in. Found it handy to go to the new map board next to the listen@home place and start downloading all areas again from there, backs it up in a queue, pretty handy. but yeah it was pretty annoying...
KingOfHearts @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:43PM
More updates, more problems..
This is kinda getting outta hand. It's a shame that updates are causing so much problems as of late..
mza49311 @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:43PM
It's held on the servers, you won't lose anything, you'll just have to redownload areas
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:44PM
Mine was also freezing during the installation, and I know I have at least the Fat Princess Throne. I really don't feel like deleting and reinstalling Home though. I think I can live without Home until a patch for the patch comes out
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:45PM
Initialization...not installation. Same difference :P
Neel @ Oct 2nd 2009 3:59PM
mine is freezing, trying the reinstall thing... lets see....
Mark @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:01PM
What a clueless bunch og hippocrites the writers here are, they change their stories on a daily basis.
If it's "nobody is using home, it sucks, we looked at it once", then it's "evryone that's using home is having problems..."
We all know what the real agenda is, that is does not matter what is happening, if it's anything negative Sony news, then post it...
MrAlex @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:20PM
Its just that different writers have different opinions of home, personally I like it, but it sucks without other ppl online.
Joystiq has pretty low levels of bias in comparison to most gaming websites, so don't accuse a former PS3 fanboy editor for being an X3F douchebag, its not like anyone else has.
Oh wait...
End User @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:30PM
How is that "hypocritical?"
So they say that they don't like Home (neither do I), and not many people use it (proportionately). However many of those that DO use it are having problems with this update. Where's the conflict?
Personally, I don't really see any anti-Sony bias from the writers on here.
Mark @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:02PM
BETA Product. Have you cretins forgotten?
Lambrick @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:03PM
deleting and reinstalling the client worked for me. i kept all my purchases and such with no problem.
Renan @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:04PM
Mine is freezing when the 'initializing' is shown on the top screen. I have none of those itens as well. I'll try to reinstall it later when I get home and report here.
Trep @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:10PM
Delete the game data utility, not the save data. And yeah, was wondering wtf was happening.
Went and looked around, new home is fairly neat.
Also if you go to theater 8, you get a free PSPGo hat. But apparently it makes it so you can't have hair so it looks weird.
Lord_von_Punx @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:18PM
i also was not able to sign in to home so i deleted it and re-downloaded
it and worked like a charm.
Kyle @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:06PM
I had this problem, but i will just wait for a patch. Home isnt that interesting to uninstall and reinstall....
biggrapp @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:33PM
i had the freezing issue too and like a lotta others i didn't want to delete and reinstall home but i finally did. i felt like such an ass afterward too because it went off without a hitch. when i first went to delete it i looked a the 3 gigs it used on my machine and dreaded having to download a whole 3 gigs all over again til i realized the actual application is over 48mb and the 3gb is just used for cache. the whole process took a total of around 7 minutes. i reinstalled home and haven't looked back since.
Deaddy @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:33PM
Mine would freeze at "initializing..." every time, but deleting Home from the XMB and reinstalling fixed it immediately. I didn't delete anything under game data or save data.
Pat @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:55PM
I haven't experienced any problems and I have the Fat Princess throne.
Michael @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:52PM
If you quit home while in your summer house so that home boots back into your summer house it will freeze everytime regardless of how many times you delete home and reinstall it from the xmb. Try it and see if you can get back in for yourself. Go ahead and quit home whole in your summer house I dare you.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:57PM
Worked for me.
TRIXTA-RIXTA @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:59PM
My whole ps3 network is lagging, my friends list wont load properly and it says my friends are offline when they are online!
Yingerman @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:05PM
I had that issue. I reintalled playstation home and it works fine now.
*FOR ANY1 ELSE WHO HAD THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE READ*
I noticed when doing the whole Xi thing on Home, I couldn't see pictures like everyone else could in the web browser. Even before Xi, also had the problem where after any update, i would be forced to reinstall any locations i had installed before. Did any/everyone else who experienced freezing from update 1.30 hav any of the problems stated above?
ocdog45 @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:06PM
yeah, mine fereezes every time i try to log in now. i jsut wanted to see if the game launch really works. F*** it!
John @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:07PM
why hasnt the trophy section of this site been updated since aug 31st??
Tim Parsons @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:19PM
Delete Home from XMB then install again. U will not lose anything as it's kept in a Save File. All Home Areas need to be redownloaded anyway
Still it's pretty stupid, We shouldnt have to to that. But for those of us that have already it's no concern anymore
j.howlett @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:31PM
i'll try the work around later. sad my throne could be the cause.
KinjiroSSD @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:32PM
I've got the perfect workaround. Don't ever boot the damn thing.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:53PM
Luckily it worked fine for me, the last thing I need is for more problems. I already can't play disc based games.
butlersp @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:53PM
It is probably due to the PSP Go they are giving out free. Home froze up trying to download it twice
gotjf @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:03PM
My cousin and I are both experienceing freezing during the initializing, on our systems. HELP US! :(
Chris @ Oct 3rd 2009 10:33AM
Did you try this solution? Hihlight it in XMB, delete, highlight again from xmb (It's still be there) and reinstall.
John @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:04PM
I had this freezing issue. I read that if you delete Home and reinstall it it works to fix the problem so I tried that and it worked just fine. Mine was freezing when logging into home when it said "Initializing." To delete Home, go to the Home icon on the XMB and press triangle, then delete. Then click the same icon to reinstall. I did not lose any of my data and didn't even have to recreate my avatar because I did not delete my Home save data or Home game data, just the software itself.
joey_g @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:31PM
My system locks up during login into Home and I have to hold the power button to shut down. I have not had the time to delete and reinstall, rather play games, instead of dealing with a bad distribution.
Tez @ Oct 2nd 2009 7:00PM
I was freezing at the initializing screen. I deleted Home (not the save data) and redownloaded it (about 60MB). Working smoothly now.
Kinsey @ Oct 2nd 2009 7:15PM
Mine froze and I did the whole erase and reinstall and it still freezes, but after reading this I wonder if its the Throne and the arcade items since the last space I was in was a club room with both of these things and i can't change to where i wanna go from the beginning screen :(
Plageuis @ Oct 2nd 2009 7:22PM
Mine keeps freezing, but I think I'll wait until they patch it instead of reinstalling it.
Midniteclubber @ Oct 2nd 2009 7:39PM
Even after deleting and reinstalling, my system still froze during initializing. My fix was to delete the files in my "saved files". When I did this my personal spaces were emptied of furniture and all other stuff. Then I started to customize my studio, got bored and logged off, When I tried to log in later it froze on the initialize screen. I then deleted the "save file "and was able to log on. Needless to say my spaces are empty and I have no problems logging in. And I did not use any of the so called affected items.
Akira @ Oct 3rd 2009 7:59AM
I deleted home for good im sick of this crap. Home is just getting beyond a joke now it dosent matter what they do it ends up being a total fuck up.
Paul @ Oct 3rd 2009 2:41PM
delted mine before they posted all the problmes and reinstalled. worked fine.
serge @ Oct 3rd 2009 4:59PM
my system hanged as well and i dont plan on reinstalling it. im sure there will be an update by next weekend.
Mari @ Oct 3rd 2009 6:52PM
I have the same problem. I have the first PS3 that came out, and after installing the 1.30 Update my PS3 completely freezes while initializing HOME. And i have to switch it off and then Restart it to be able to use my PS3. That sucks big times.
Oh yea, i don;t have any of the mentioned items.

I updated to 1.3 yesterday and had the freezing issue when launching Home.
I read up on it on the PSN forums and seen a suggestion to delete Home (the application, not your data) so I tried that.
Re-downloaded and fired it up and it worked. I suspect the issue lies within old cold left over from previous versions of Home. I got it as soon as it was released and have done updates every since.
Start fresh people.
Grif @ Oct 4th 2009 1:29AM
I deleted home and redownloaded it and it has been working so far.
nick miller @ Oct 4th 2009 6:51PM
just out of curiosity, the people who didnt have the items, were you part of the closed beta? i was and mine is doing the same thing.
