Demon's Souls wiki isn't going to save you
Demon's Souls, an Atlus-published action-RPG out this week on the PS3, is way too hard for you. We say this without knowing a thing about your skills and with no equivocation. If you're reading this, you're not good enough to play Demon's Souls, save for some sort of miraculous intervention.
Barring that, you're just going to have to rely on this new official wiki for the game, chock full of strategies to help keep you alive ... until your inevitable, predictable death.

You beat me to it.
This wiki and the new wiki aren't one and the same?
Phizzy @ Oct 6th 2009 9:46PM
Good time for the wiki to go down... I was just about to look up character tendency changes, I want to be a good boy!
monkeyzamm @ Oct 6th 2009 4:30PM
I don't need no wiki only squares read the wiki
Lord_von_Punx @ Oct 6th 2009 4:30PM
lmao i'm gonna be picking this up i love a challenge but i doubt i'm gonna need help
only thing i need help for sometimes is puzzles
Solace @ Oct 6th 2009 4:33PM
Someone should have told those pussies over at Destructoid about this because they could NOT even finish the game for a review because the reviewer claimed it was too hard. Now that's sad, when someone who writes about and reviews video games for a living can't even beat a game.

Ive had Demon's Souls imported from china for about 2-3 months now and i must say that i agree with all of the review comments that this game is way hard only when it is your first encounter with something new in the game. The entire game revolves a great deal around strategy which is why i love this game so much, once you figure out an enemy's strategy you can pretty much take them down with ease same goes for boss fights, but the only different there is that 1 hit from a boss pretty much puts you in the red so 2 hits and its restart from the beginning of the level. Overall it is one challenging game that will kill you WELL over 30 times before you can even kill your first giant demon.

So, anyone that got it can say if it's harder than wipEout HD?
DocBooch @ Oct 6th 2009 4:54PM
Oh, you will need the wiki alright. If you think you have any chance at getting platinum in this game without it, you are sorely mistaken. The games intricacies with character and world tendencies and the events that happen in them takes awhile to figure out even with the wiki.
On top of that, let me see how you fare against the black phantom trolls in pure black tendency. Painful and sadistic.
I've platinum-ed the Asian version and just received the NA version. I can't wait to play it again.
DocBooch @ Oct 6th 2009 5:02PM
enrique, they are completely different games, but I understand what you are trying to gauge. I haven't played WipeOutHD, but in terms of pure difficulty I'd say it's on par with it. Demon's Souls takes more thinking and strategy while WipeOutHD is memorization and reflexes.
8-bit.artist @ Oct 6th 2009 10:31PM
wipeout HD itself isnt hard though. platinuming it is hard for sure, but just playing to beat the game isnt that bad.
just beating demon souls is supposedly a bitch, let alone platinuming it.

I really am worried that that this game might be too difficult for me.
I'm about the pick up the deluxe edition so.. hopefully I find that it's a lot of people who are playing it like an action game rather then using some thought and it's not really as difficult (or better worded, not impossible) if you do it the right way...
Nobledevil @ Oct 6th 2009 5:35PM
I've actually started to really like using game wikis thanks to the Last Remnant one that has made my life with that game so much easier. An officially supported wiki is even better.
Adramelech @ Oct 6th 2009 6:28PM
quite a good game, played it through, its quite impossible to really get a good footing in the game without some form of wiki or FAQ to really have an understanding of how the game mechanics work, i found 1 or 2 particular moments to be pretty tedious, such as shooting down the red dragon with arrows or the sheer insanity of the growing soulreq for each stat bonus, the world tendency system seems abit broken too, as the visible colour confirmation on each archstone seems broken, without north regalia it seems impossible.
a recommendation, don't ever absorb a full blown "Demons soul" - these are used to craft weapons or are exchanged for new magics/miracles from appropriate unlockable vendors.

Joystiq just knows that everyone that buys Demon Souls is gonna die in the game, don't they!?
......
......
I'm still gonna play it.
Phizzy @ Oct 6th 2009 9:46PM
Die in the game? Absolutely. You'll die hundreds of times. You'll spend most of the game in soul form, coming back to life briefly after managing to kill a demon, only to die shortly after that due to underestimating a new enemy or simply walking off a ledge.
Ben @ Oct 6th 2009 10:48PM
I'll definitely pick this game up when I can (I'm tossing up between importing or just waiting until it released in Europe). I'm a great fan of incredibly hard games but I'm willing to admit I'll take a peak at a wiki if I have to.
I wonder what the trophies will be like (assuming there will be trophies that is). The trophies in WipEout HD were incredibly hard to get because they required a lot of time and dedication (or extreme luck. More likely the former though) which meant that when you got them it felt like a real accomplishment (unlike something like Prince of Persia's trophies). Hopefully one will get the same satisfaction from Demon's Souls.

It's tough and I'm loving it. It's long and tedious to start over from the beginning again and having to navigate the same place over and over... But in this game, the fact that I was expecting it, it didn't make me mad lol.
Friend of mine said he was going to play it and be the first not to die... That lasted up until the big boss fight in the tutorial lol.
Overall I'm one demon in and having a blast with it
Mr. Joe @ Oct 7th 2009 10:48AM
that weird boss thing in the tutorial got me too. i just beat the first demon as well! we must be in the same place. i think i put about five hours in last night and i just barely got a grasp on the story. still have no clue about the items and stones and stuff. i can't decide to read the wiki or not. i kind of want to see the game slowly reveal itself.

Hey,
I got the game yesterday and have killed Phalanx (the first demon, 1-1). Loving it!! as hard as it is, it is really gratifying when you complete the task at hand. I just have one question. I am using a hunter and bought soul arrow, but cant seem to cast. Do I need some kind of "catalyst" or "tool" to cast?? Have been looking online but cannot seem to find an answer. thakns in advance
