Insomniac hints at end of Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time may be the titular duo's last adventure -- at least, for a while. Speaking with CNN, Insomniac's creative director for the game, Brian Allgeier, stated, "Never say never, but people need that closure. ... We hope to be wrapping things up with a bow."
It seems unclear, from the comments Allgeier gave to CNN, whether he's referring to the franchise or just the storyline started in the Ratchet and Clank Future series. With 16 million copies of R&C games sold across seven installments since 2002, sales obviously have a lot to say when it comes to sequels. If A Crack in Time does well, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Lombax and his metal companion return within a couple years -- well rested and with some fresh ideas.

Fair enough the last game felt a little stale, but that may just be because it lacked some of the features from previous games that really gave the game its soul.

Really? I thought Tools of Destruction was easily the best one yet. I am surprised you found it lacking from others in the series.
I wonder if this means Insomniac is going to spend more time on Resistance 3, or if they might take a stab at "girl with a stick". Of course there is always the option that they'll go down a completely different road, but I - for one - would love to see Girl With A Stick.
Lastly, I'm sad to see the series go, but at least they are wrapping it up for us. I won't be surprised if in a few years time we see the rebirth of Ratchet and Clank; it's been too successful over too many iterations for it to stay dead forever (I hope).

I absolutely loved R&C:ToD. But I did find the lack of skill points disturbing :[

i really hope this isn't the last Ratchet & Clank game!
Vidikron @ Oct 19th 2009 12:30PM
I'd be fine with this. It has been a fantastic run, but I wouldn't mind seeing what Insomniac could come up with to replace the series.

Ill have to admit, i just started playing R&C a few months ago but im hooked. My gf was really into it and got me to play. I had first played Jak and Daxter, which left me not touching R&C. No offence to J&D fans but, it was a pretty poor game IMHO.
So now i am scouring Amazon for every R&C game i can find. i really hope if this is the last one they go out with a bang.
Maulok @ Oct 19th 2009 12:41PM
I'm hoping that the series continues, but if Insomnia wishes to move on I would prefer they retire the franchise than have another studio take it over and ruin it, ala Crash Bandicoot post-Naughty Dog.
Maulok @ Oct 19th 2009 12:43PM
*Insomniac, not Insomnia. D'oh!
Solace @ Oct 19th 2009 12:54PM
the IP was sold off
KinjiroSSD @ Oct 19th 2009 10:53PM
Naughty Dog couldn't do much when Sony owns the IP
JMC732 @ Oct 20th 2009 12:40AM
just like Spyro right

I really don't see any other game on any platform that resembles R&C; I rather they just end Resistance with a part 3 and continue with the Rachet & Clank universe.
Autobot @ Oct 24th 2009 6:16PM
Jak and Da-
...nvm...
Marius @ Oct 19th 2009 1:20PM
finally
Solace @ Oct 19th 2009 1:48PM
Yes to finally killing off any game that is still original than 90% of the garbage out there right now. Yes so finally now insomniac has more time to develop another generic shooter filled with aliens, blood and gore. Finally we are rid of any 3D platformers left from last gen.
you douche bag

I can live with that, perhaps they'll start a new IP that I'm actually interested in.Maybe we can see their take on the point n click/graphic adventure.
Neophoton @ Oct 19th 2009 2:00PM
As much as I love Ratchet & Clank, I wouldn't mind letting up on the games for the series, possibly letting it end. Just as long as they don't do what they did to Spyro and let it become a zombie series with some studio.
kentuckyfried @ Oct 19th 2009 2:16PM
it sounds like Insomniac needs to pick up their game, at least in the writing department.
Resistance 2 sucked great big monkey balls (I just finished it a day or two before Uncharted 2 came out). Nonsensical plot progression, very little characterization. Too many QTE-like moments too.
Resistance 3 should be either about Parker or James Mason (from Retribution).
I'm looking forward to playing the first outing of Ratchet and Clank on the ps3 (bought it but never played it).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want them to make a R&C game that has co-op. My brother and I had so much fun when playing R&C together
*sings* We are family
Filthy Assistant @ Oct 19th 2009 4:23PM
They said something to this effect on Gametrailers TV too. I dunno, I think R&C has had a good run, but at the same time it's one of my favorite series.
I really really want a PS3 Sly Cooper or Jak and Daxter game, though...
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 19th 2009 6:11PM
They could always just follow Naughty Dog (as they ALWAYS do) and focus on their new, grittier IP and, if they feel like another R&C game is in order, they can let High Impact do it for them. (Not that I like the idea of another developer picking up where another one started (coughcoughguitarherocough), but it seems like Insomniac/SCE don't mind taking that route for these IPs.)
Speaking of following patterns, there better be an Uncharted racing game after the third one. It would follow Naughty Dog's pattern of a trilogy (Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter) followed by a racing game (CTR, Jak X). In all seriousness, I want at least a fully-rendered trailer for one on an April Fool's Day. If they did that.. I don't know how I can love Naughty Dog any more than I do, but I'd find a way.
Ashitaka @ Oct 19th 2009 6:14PM
I hope not.
Sayed @ Oct 19th 2009 7:18PM
Don't kill the Wombax :'( but if you have to let him go off with a bang...like an old man humping a lingerie model.
CubeGuy @ Nov 5th 2009 12:20PM
I wouldn't worry your wittle head about it.
(Lombax)

I love Ratchet and Clank and if it ended its run I would miss it alot.
punkrockinprimate @ Oct 19th 2009 10:34PM
No no insomniac you are doing it all wrong...you oughta kill resistance...long live the only exclusive platformer on the ps3!!!
KinjiroSSD @ Oct 19th 2009 11:20PM
Don't kill it but a lengthy break would be refreshing.
gatotsu911 @ Oct 20th 2009 11:35PM
Yeah, I doubt it'd be a bad idea to loosen up on the release schedule for these games. I keep hearing good things about them, but one of the biggest reasons I've never bought one is that they come out with a new one literally every year - there are too many coming out too fast to keep track of if you're not already a fan of the series, and since the sequels aren't numbered, it's even harder to determine which one to play first. I think it would be far better for this series - or any other, really - to only release a new game when they have the particular inspiration to do so, not just to meet a regular release schedule.
unRheal @ Nov 1st 2009 2:48PM
It seems they can't (shouldn't!) end R&C now - they left *so* much open at the end of the game. Maybe they'll just call this the last "Future" game, aka Trilogy, as some suggested.
Tnarayan @ Nov 6th 2009 2:20AM
I'd like to see the series end, Ratchet and Clank both deserve a rest after saving so many galaxies, without garnishing a whole lot of respect from the populous (series staples?). Even if they just settled down somewhere, or run off the find the lombaxes (I am so tired of hearing everyone say it's rare to see a Lombax, we get it already!).
If it ended with A Crack in Time, I'd be disappointed for two reasons: (1) there was a cliff hanger that needs resolution and (2) if it just ended like that, I couldn't respect Insomniac enough to drop the ball without at least telling us fans before hand.
If it ended with Tools of Destruction, I wouldn't buy another Insomniac ever. I wasn't as happy with ToD as I was with R&C3. The weapon upgrades felt lacking because most of the time, the last level up involved "add acid", "add fire", "triple shots", "ricochet bullets", and I expected the guns to completely differ from before.
If the series ended with R&C3, I would have been content. No spin-offs, no watered down racing sequels, just a very solid experience as a high note for Insomniac's record. (you know, if Brutal Legend handled it's single player like R&C3, a complete experience that introduces multiplayer feature to teach players and add variety in combat. Brutal Legend would have gone on my Greatest Games ever list, right best Pyschonauts.)
