Don't get too angry when the
discussion about From Software's
3D Dot Game Heroes centers around classic
Zelda. It's plainly obvious from this new trailer (after the break) that From is not only being totally up front about the game's inspiration, but inviting comparisons.
The introductory story sequence, the environments, and even the music strongly recall Nintendo's flagship adventure series. But From has done a great job of making something that doesn't just appeal to our nostalgia -- we're just as excited about this game on its own merits. We're ready to start upgrading our swords to ridiculous extremes.
Not that nostalgia isn't an important part of it! Blogger
Maxell011 (via
GameSetWatch) pointed out the game's loading screens, which remake famous game boxes in
Dot Game Heroes style. That
Castlevania (above, with the original box) homage might be enough to sell a few copies.

After From Software's Demon's Souls, I will give any game they make at least a solid well informed look.

as a self professed "core" gamer who doesn't usually like unique games, I'd be willing to give this a go, with the right price tag....just based on this ad and the announcer "srrree dee dotta game heroes"!!!

If we go by your logic, what exactly is a "core" gamer. I used to think casual gamers were the ones that went for all those family friendly games on any system, and core gamers were everyone else. Has this changed?
bimmy @ Oct 19th 2009 2:48PM
I'm not sure...I'm just going by what others on here have said...they seem to call people like me who game "inside the box" the core gamer, and the people who buy games like "flower" aren't.
Doreo (Psn-doreo503) @ Oct 19th 2009 2:51PM
That what is the title for people that buy games like flower?
PreGHz @ Oct 19th 2009 3:05PM
The title is "Sexy Gamer"

@bimmy:
Hardcore gamers today are defined by the number of titles they purchase each month. Over three per month qualifies. I've never heard of a "core" gamer as you describe. Besides, what you said doesn't make much sense. What the heck does it mean to "game inside the box"? Wouldn't a game like Flower be "inside the box"? It's not like you can purchase a copy at retail. So it's completely in the box. Anyway I don't think your claim or idea is valid.

Core gamers are the casual potion of the market as they are the core demographic this gen, different to hardcore gamers.
bimmy @ Oct 20th 2009 11:42AM
ok my bad...sorry for turning this into a semantics discussion...all I meant was that I usually buy games that don't stray too far from the norm, but this one has me interested
Xeones25 @ Oct 19th 2009 3:08PM
I would definitely buy this if it got released in the US. I'll import it if the asian version has english like Demon's Souls did.
I love the 2D Zelda games, so this looks like a no-brainer for me.
