Modern Warfare 2 party patch releases a day early

Infinity Ward has released the 1.03 patch for Modern Warfare 2 a day earlier than expected. The 15MB download finally fixes the party system, allowing players to properly invite friends for multiplayer sessions. With last night's server fix and today's patch release, we can finally say Modern Warfare 2 is working exactly the way it should have. Sure, it took three days after the game's launch, but better late than never, right?

At least they got it right and had people working on it quickly. My friend and I still have problems connecting on COD:WAW.

I say good on you IW, you may have had a problem to begin with but at least you sorted it out quickly.

I'm probably not as bitter because in NZ online has been running smoothly since the first day of release.

It hasn't fixed anything. I still cannot connect to anyone and vice versa. I've tried this with half of my friends list.

Majority of reports on forums say the same thing. Joystiq was a bit premature to say this fixed the invite problem, when no official spokesperson has stated so. Expect an "update" tag from Joystiq soon.

on the main screen of your ps3 go to game then go to game data utility delete Modern Warfare 2. Restart your ps3 and log in. then go to game and re-download the update.

It actually has fixed the problem.

IW are waiting on Sony Japan re-starting the Presence server, when Sony Japan is just waking up so it should be back up and invites will be fully functioning within the next few hours.

I was wondering this myself, CoDMW2 screwed up my mates PSN profile, as in he can't recover it.. not sure why he deleted it, but he can only get to 15% on the recovery.. he left it to recover for 14 hours.. and that's all he got, Brutal Legend & MW2 trophies, he's 'lost' the other 1000 he had

There is a work-around fix for the party bug (it is annoying but it works)

When you receive an invite, stay in game and ->
Hit the PS Button, go to Playstation Network, then right triangle on account management.
Sign off, then right back in, and accept (from the messages folder) and it allows you to join.

As for the trophy glitch, that was patched yesterday in 1.02.

After applying the patch, Just delete any friends you can't connect to and re-add them. It's helped us resolve any party issues going forward.

the patch didnt do anything but there is a way to go around the error

Too bad the patch is worthless and doesn't work. Been trying all day with 3 of my friends and I can't connect to any of them. Everytime I tried to join a game with one friend i'd jump into a game he wasn't even in. My other friends i just get a invaild error everytime. Even after restarting the ps3's.

If anyone is still having trouble joining your friends for Modern Warfare 2 do these steps I found it helped.
1) On the main PS3 screen go to the Game Icon
2) Got to Game Data Utility
3) Delete Modern Warfare 2 from there.
4) RE-Start your PS3 and sign in online
5)Start game and you should have to Re- Download the update and that should work

I installed this update and now I can't join any normal multiplayer games...the game has frozen my PS3 three times now waiting to connect from the game lobby. Unbelievable!!!

I dont know about anyone else but i waited in line for two hours and took off work to play the game and i couldnt get on all day yesterday. i think playstation or the game makers should compensate us for are troubles. i got an idea how about makeing the first map pack upgrade free. that sounds like a good trade off for the inconvience we suffered yesterday

first of all if you pay for something you expect to be able to use what you pay for. the whole point of this game is the online play. so what if i took a day off from my 50+ hour work week to do something i enjoy. thats my business not yours. iam sure that iam not the only one who was a little pissed off that the game didnt work. all iam saying is that they had two years to create this game, they should of gotten it right in that time frame and i dont see anything wrong with everyone being compensated. they porobably already have a map pack ready to go. so they should just give it as a free update.

This patch did not fix the problem. I am able to invite friends on other call of duty games but i am still not able to do that with modern warfare 2.

I'm having trouble downloading the patch. Everytime I strt downloading it freezes at a random % complete and the time increases indefinately. Any suggestions? Can you download to a pc and put it on a USB memory stick and upload to ps3 that way?

I'm guessing that the people complaining the most about IW screwing up and not fixing things for a staggering 48 hours or so, are the ones who have never worked on anything relating to coding, software or web-related work.

This is so damb aggrivating. I spent 5hrs waiting in line til 1am spent $60 bux to play a game for 5hrs and then put the game away because its completely useless. The campaign is a joke I beat that in half a day while hoping that the multiplayer issue would be fixed. The maps are insane except for the fact that EVERYONE CAMPS. Thanks IW for making me waste my money.

Joystiq seems to be a little ahead of itself. 1.03 does not appear to have fixed anything. I think the real shame here is that IW knew it had a guaranteed hit, a blockbuster beyond any game that has come before, was given access to a correspondingly huge budget, and the best they could do is an underwhelming singleplayer campaign, followed up with broken multiplayer. If MW2 wins GOTY honors over Uncharted 2, I for one will cry foul.

If you want to get a party going, this is how we've got it to work so far:

Someone send the invites. When you receive your invite, DO NOT EXCEPT IT YET. Stay in the in game lobby and open up the XMB. Go to account management and hit triangle and sign out, then sign back in to PSN. Then go accept your party invite.

You are welcome. We've done it a bunch of times already. I have no idea why it works, but it does.
