Happy 3rd birthday, PlayStation 3!
We can hardly believe that it's been three whole years since we first enjoyed the splendor of the PlayStation 3 in our own homes. Sure, there weren't a million fantastic games for the console right at launch, and there were a few issues at some stores with poor crowd management, but here we are three years later with a heap of great memories. Remember that nightmare inducing baby ad? How about Sony's response to PlayStation Home being leaked?
These days, we have hilarious commercials, a smattering of great exclusive games both on disc and through the PlayStation Network – hell, the system even lost some weight (and half its original price)! We're spending the day celebrating the PS3s lifespan by ... folding proteins like mad! If you're so inclined to join along, we've got this convenient 300 person strong team set up. It's a celebration foldathon, folks – ya dig?

Well... Sony must be congratulated for launching the PS3 which IMHO should be good for another 3 years...

I remember 3 years ago thinking i would never be able to afford a PS3 for $600 and almost buying a 360 but I didn't so I just ended up playing the PS2 until the MGS4 PS3 bundled was being sold for $500... best decision I ever made gaming wise
Chris @ Nov 18th 2009 3:54PM
That MGS4 bundle was the deal of the century

That is also when I got my PS3. What an awesome console.

I'm user Great.help on the ps3fanboy folding at home team. I'm responsible for 1.25% of those work units. :-) Haven't been crunching any units for a long time, I need to get back to helping cancer research.
Oh and happy 3rd birthday PS3!

Wow, time sure passed quickly. I wonder how the next three years will look like? Here's to a great future for the console and the gaming industry.

Isn't this more of an anniversary of the US launch?
The most region-free console ever celebrates its birthday 11/11.

When the baker was asked for a response he said:
"I believe we've reached the full potential of the PlayStation Cake".

Happy bday PS3, may the PS3 Slim last longer than my first one... I miss you Black Beauty, too bad your drive died twice... especially since the first time it was during the awesome falling building sequence in Uncharted 2. Had to wait a few weeks to finally see the outcome. Still, you are well worth the money. Have you ever seen Ironman in 1080p? It's like the first time I heard the Beatles.
eNrique @ Nov 18th 2009 3:14PM
How is it that, an article regarding an announcement made for an announcement for a haloz trailer made it to the joystiq main page but this didn't?
You disappoint me at times...

Happy Birthday PS3
Thank you for so many great gaming moments.
Matthew @ Nov 18th 2009 3:43PM
happy birthday you sexxxy beast known as the ps3 you have only brought me joy and happiness. May you keep on making wonderful games...even though your company tends to shaft it's gamers. You seriously are the best console on the market and will only get better i know that the motion controller was started way back on the ps2 so eat your heart out "Wiiak"(wiiak=weak) and xbox has not many good exclusives because people know they can make more money selling to both. So Booya "exbox". May both of those competing consoles burn...Go PS3 :)
pd771 @ Nov 18th 2009 3:50PM
Happy Birthday, you wonderful inanimate object. I know you don't understand the joy you bring me, but that's ok. I loved you since a first got you and knew I made the right decision. I could see the potential even behind all that weight you carried and those ugly commercials that hid your true value. Now you're skinny and have fashionable commercials, and everyone loves you. Just don't forget your roots, making amazing games for all.
HAAS599 @ Nov 18th 2009 3:51PM
Happy B-day PS3. The only console this gen to get better with age. I have a launch PS3 so this is 3 years running strong with no hardware failure, can't complain. So far I have saved $200 by choosing a system with free online gaming. Thank you Sony.
umm....hello??? @ Nov 22nd 2009 4:03PM
since you paid $200 more than a launch x360, I fail to see how you saved an initial $200 from your purchase....
rohan @ Nov 18th 2009 4:31PM
here is to many more!

Happy birthday PS3! I hope that we have another stellar three years to come.

Unfortunately, my PS3 celebrated its 3rd birthday not with candles but with a flashing yellow light...killed apparently by the sheer awesomeness of Uncharted 2.
[weeps uncontrollably]
At least I managed to get the disc out of the drive.
p.s. apologies to any psxextreme members for posting essentially the same message again

Me too. As a matter of fact I had traded in all my PS2 games and my PS2 to get a 360. I was on my way to Gamestop to buy a 360, I then thought of MGS4, DMC4, FF XIII, and Tekken 6 (At the time were all exclusive) and said "fuck this" and turned around.
incoming00 @ Nov 18th 2009 7:48PM
wait... wasnt it the PS3's birthday yesterday?
... happy late birthday PS3!!!

I folded proteins (or rather modeled doing it) just because it was Wednesday night. I do an overnight run of F@H every Wednesday and Saturday (this avoids the timeouts). Nonetheless, the third birthday: happy and parasitic!
