Friends join Old Snake in upcoming LBP costume pack

The cat's out of the bag. The Sony Hong Kong website has let slip details of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid LittleBigPlanet DLC. The content has grown substantially since we first saw Old Snake at TGS in October. He'll be joined by his buddies Meryl, Screaming Mantis and, if you buy the character pack, Raiden. Not only that but a level construction pack will also be made available. We have a feeling it'll include something quite surprising ...
There's no telling when these will be made available, or for how much, but we assume they'll be with us quite soon if they're already being listed on the Sony HK site. Would make a nice Christmas present during next week's Xmas Eve PSN Store update.

No Doubt's Singles Collection hitting Rock Band DLC next week
The American punk-ska band No Doubt is bringing some of their best tracks to the Rock Band series. At least, according to a posting on the band's official website. The website states that "The Singles Collection" album will be coming to Rock Band on December 9 (probably December 11 for PS3 owners) and will include 13 tracks from the album. Funny thing is, the album has 15 tracks. So what two songs are being cut? We don't know yet, but you can check the full song list after the break.

Download Dissidia themes for your PSP
Dissidia: Final Fantasy is out in two weeks, but Square Enix is already offering some sweet, free content. If you love collecting themes for your PSP, then you'll want to download the three that are available off the official Dissidia website. The three themes correspond to the first three Final Fantasies; each theme features their respective hero/villain combination.
Just remember -- in order to transfer the files to your PSP -- hook up your PSP to your PC via USB cable and enter USB mode. Then open up the folder "PSP" and then "Themes." Just drag-and-drop it there. Now your themes are good to go. Also, after the break, check out a vid detailing how the game's story mode progresses.

Dead Space demo arriving tomorrow

In case you didn't know, the PSN update this week will take place Tuesday, November 25th, instead of the usual Thursday because of the Thanksgiving holiday. So what pre-holiday treat does EA have planned for us? Apparently, they recommend practicing our dismemberment skills "on some Necromorphs ... before you carve your turkey" by playing the Dead Space demo that will be released tomorrow. Unless you are in Europe -- in which case, you'll be trying out the demo for the sci-fi survival horror title on Thursday, November 27th. Still on the fence about the game? You can always check out our full Dead Space review.

Firmware v5.02 is out now

Another day, another firmware. We kid, we kid -- but as we announced two days ago, there is another update available for you to download. Firmware v5.02 doesn't appear to do much, other than "improves system software stability during use of some features, including the PlayStation Store."
Firmware v5.02 out soon
Here's another minor update to look out for soon -- though unless you find yourself having problems, you probably can go without this one. Firmware v5.02 doesn't do much except the fact that it "improves system software stability during use of some features, including the PlayStation Store." According to the Director of PlayStation Network Operations, Eric Lempel, the new update will be "available shortly."
LBP Motorstorm and Animals costumes priced and dated for US

As we guessed when we saw a similar set of LittleBigPlanet DLC offered to Japan two days ago, the costume of Toro, the main character of Mainich Isshyo, has been left out in the US release. Replacing the feline will be a MotorStormer costume, as seen above. On the left of the MotorStormer is a freebie based on the winning design of the SCEE costume contest, a Sack-Eating Plant.
The remaining costumes are the same wildlife ones from the Japanese release, and now they have names: Lilly Pad (chameleon frog), Hugo (gorilla), Great Blue (shark) and Frost-E (penguin). The animals can be purchased individually for $0.99 each or as a 4-pack for $2.99. The MotorStormer will be $1.99. All of them will make their US debuts tomorrow, November 13th, on the PS Store. Head over to the official LBP blog to check out the rest of the costumes.

Holding out on getting MGS4? Then play the demo

If you find yourself in the latter category and haven't tried the game out yet but want to, the demo that's available on the Japanese PS Store should give a taste of Snake's last adventure. The 1.4GB download can only be grabbed off the Japanese PS Store (so far, since the other regions have not updated yet); so make sure you've got an appropriate account.

Europe's Qore dubbed Official PlayStation Magazine HD
Back in September we got word that a European version of Qore would hit sometime in 2009. We now know a few more details regarding the service. Revealed by a Future Publishing job listing, the digizine will be called "Official PlayStation Magazine HD." It's not as original as "Qore," but at least it'll easily find its audience.
The service, as described by the job listing, will be a "new weekly paid-for download delivered direct to PS3 owners via the PlayStation Network Store." It sounds a lot like Qore, except for that "weekly" bit.

Rumor: Firmware 5.0 = PS Store, new RSS, screen capture
It wasn't too long ago that firmware 4.0 (and higher) dropped on our laps, and we're already hearing about the next major revision to hit the handheld: the big five-o. The word on the street (and by street we mean French website PSPGen) is that firmware 5.0 is currently in the hands of an unknown French dev studio and it will include several key features such as that direct-to-PS Store functionality we've heard so much about.
Other features like a revamped RSS reader would (*gasp*) be able to read text files. The inclusion of a screen capture tool echoes another rumor which is also said to be available in the upcoming PS3 Firmware 2.5. Regarding this, parallel development for screen grabs does seem to make a whole lot of sense.

Download G.A.M.E. 3.0 WipEout Edition: A custom soundtrack for WipEout HD made by GAFers
Wow! Bravo to the NeoGAF forum for creating this incredible custom soundtrack for WipEout HD. While the PSN game offers an excellent soundtrack as-is, it's refreshing to have this new collection of tunes to listen to while racing down these futuristic tracks. The soundtrack was created by a very talented group of NeoGAFers: "We're a bunch of NeoGAF posters who make electronic music. Some of us veterans, some of us amateurs, but we all share a passion for videogames and electronic music."
We're offering a mirror download here on PS3 Fanboy to show our support for the project. But, make sure you check out NeoGAF for the full credits list. Download here, and check out instructions on how to use it in the game after the cut.

Guitar Hero: World Tour gets lots more Pumpkins to Smash

In addition to the on-disc content, a Smashing Pumpkins DLC pack has already been set. Included in the DLC will be a brand new single called G.L.O.W. which will debut "exclusively in the game." Other older tracks come from differing Pumpkins eras, such as "The Everlasting Gaze" of early 2000 and "1979" of the late 90s. The three-song track pack will be available sometime after the game launches.

Konami hand out two more MGS4 codes, one download
Here are some more Metal Gear Solid 4 codes for all of you who want "free" stuff. It's technically free because you don't have to exert any effort in getting them, but it's all content already on the disc, which means you already paid for it. Go figure. Anyway, these items are not as great as last week's, but we're sure you'll enjoy them just the same.

Unlock two new weapons with latest MGS4 passwords
Two new passwords have been revealed for Metal Gear Solid 4. Inputting the access codes in the 'Extras' menu gives players two new weapons: Thor .45-70 large-caliber hand rifle and The Boss' Patriot from Metal Gear Solid 3. Here are the two codes, respectively: tshsniammr and pkhhnwhsjt.
In addition to the new codes, there's also new music for the in-game iPod titled "Battle." It's a track from the Plant Chapter in MGS2. It seems Konami is really cranking up the fan service ... and we like it!
