MotorStorm: Pacific Rift getting patch

This will be the last post we make before the site redesign goes into effect. Are you excited?

Our site isn't the only thing getting patched. No, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift will also be getting some post-release bug fixin' fun. According to the PlayStation.Blog, the patch will arrive soon and will include the following features:
  • Restrictions to the copying of Saved Data have been removed. This will make it possible for Saved Data to be backed up and then restored to the User Account it was created under (whether that's on the same PLAYSTATION 3 or not).*
  • Changes to the way the game handles data. These changes will help to prevent Saved Data corruption.
  • Visual notification of critical save progress has been added. A 'MotorStorm Helmet' icon will be displayed on-screen to warn users that critical data is being saved. This is in addition to the HDD Access light which currently flashes while the game makes a critical save.
  • The glitch which enables a player to exploit the Boost system has been removed. The development team are working to identify which times have been achieved using this glitch; Action will be taken to ensure that the Leaderboards become genuinely competitive again.
  • Time Attack times and Rank information will update correctly for all players. Any pending Time Attack times will begin to filter through systematically and the online Ranks should display correctly once the update is released.
  • Additional fixes and improvements to gameplay. Many thanks for your feedback on these and other issues so far; we are still investigating the other issues that have been brought to our attention.

LittleBigPlanet 1.08 patch fixes ... nothing

You may have noticed a LittleBigPlanet patch went live this weekend. However, don't expect the patch to fix any glitches. A developer stated that "the 1.08 update contains content only. The Edam update is still going through the testing process and we'll have more information about its release date once it's completed testing."

The 1.08 patch adds textures to be used in upcoming costume DLC releases, such as the Chinese New Year costumes pictured above.

The upcoming "Edam" patch will fix a number of glitches, such as the full profile warning, save corruption, and slow rewind.

Resistance 2 getting 1.40 patch on Monday

Many of the bugs related to saving, progression and Trophy accumulation will be fixed in a 1.40 patch available to all Resistance 2 players this Monday (1/26). For example, some players may have had their character data mysteriously reset. Those players can take comfort in knowing that all their lost progress will be restored -- and that any additional XP earned since will still count. Those that acquired the 10,000 kills necessary for the Killing Machine Trophy will automatically unlock it once the 1.40 patch is applied.

Here are the patch notes:

Trophy/Medal/Ribbons

  • "Salute Me" trophy is not awarded until player reaches level 31 (Lieutenant)
  • "Berserker" trophy can be collected during non-ranked games
  • "Survivor" medal can be collected in cooperative games
  • "Sure Shot" ribbon is awarded if player has accuracy of exactly 50%

Clans

  • Added clan support for viewing members, sending invites, and setting up clan tags
  • Default clan region is now USA

What's in the upcoming free Burnout Paradise patch?

Click for high-resolution image.
You thought Criterion was done adding content to Burnout Paradise? Wrong! On February 6th, PS3 owners of Burnout Paradise will be able to download a free patch that adds a whole lot of content.
  • In-Game Store (PS3/PC only) - An in-game browser will connect to the "Criterion Games Network." From here, you'll be able to see all the game's updates and purchase any of the upcoming premium DLC.
  • Tweaked vehicle handling - The earlier cars are now tweaked to be easier for newcomers to use. "These cars are now slower, harder to crash and less likely to spin out at low speeds."
  • Junkyard sorting - You'll be able to compare the stats of cars, and you'll be able to filter out cars, bikes, and upcoming DLC vehicles.
  • Stunt Run timer changed - Stunt Run will now have a different timer that starts much slower than before. This allows beginners more wiggle room to start a combo. Experts will still be challenged: the larger your combo, the faster the timer runs out.
  • Events rebalanced - All events have been modified to accommodate the new car speeds.
  • Road Rage tweaked - Players no longer get additional time once they reach the target score. This is great, because we usually intentionally crash in order to end this mode.
  • Enhanced visuals - In-game items, like billboards and smashes, are now easier to spot. The lighting has been tweaked to be "more vibrant." Driving at night will be easier.
  • Restart - Yes, you can restart races now.
  • Easier barrel rolls - Barrel rolls are now automatic. However, to do more than one at a time, you'll have to use the analog sticks.
The upcoming premium DLC packs (Party, Toy Cars, Legendary Cars) add additional Trophies into the game. We've included them after the cut.

Bomb Mission coming to Metal Gear Online

Click for high-resolution image.

Metal Gear Online will getting a brand new (free) mode. Bomb Mission will be available to all MGO players on January 27th. In this new mode, two teams go head-to-head. The offensive team will attempt to detonate a bomb at a targeted location, protecting the bomb until it detonates. The defending team must protect its stronghold and prevent bombs from exploding by using a special coolant.

We're not sure how many people still play MGO, but it's great to see Konami offer brand new content at a price we all can approve of.

Burnout Paradise Party Pack coming 2/5, Europe to get Ultimate Box

Click for high-resolution image.
We have a lot of fans of Burnout Paradise here at PS3 Fanboy. In fact, it won PS3 Fanboy's award for Best Racing Game and Best DLC. Those that have experienced everything Burnout Paradise has to offer can look to more fun in the upcoming multiplayer-focused Party Pack. This premium DLC will be available on the PlayStation Store on February 5th. Not only does it add new modes to your game, it will also give you access to a new batch of Trophies.

If you don't have Burnout Paradise yet, there's never been a better time to pick it up. In the US, the game has officially dropped in price to $20. Europeans will be able to purchase Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, which includes the game and every add-on released so far. Expect that in retail stores on February 6th.

Update: In addition to the premium DLC, Burnout Paradise fans can also expect a FREE patch which, according to the Criterion blog, "includes the introduction of our all-new in-game website and awesome in-game store. We've also worked on changes to game modes, visuals, the entire vehicle dynamics system. Oh, and we've added a restart !"

Penny Arcade: Episode 2 gets patched

Ask and ye shall receive. Penny Arcade Adventure: Episode 2 has been patched so that the game will no longer create glitched save files. Good news, yay! However, PS3 Evolved is saying the patch does not fix save files that have already been corrupted. Those that were unfortunately afflicted with the glitch will have to restart the game from the beginning. Boo!

PixelJunk Eden's easy patch coming this week to US [Update: Encore announced]

While available in Japan and Asia since December, American gamers will be able to get their hands on a new PixelJunk Eden patch this Thursday. The patch adds new features requested by fans. Firstly, a lot more time has been added on the clock. If that's not enough, there's a new continue system in place for those that just can't make it to that last Spectra. A new control scheme and adjusted camera system should be a pleasant addition for those that don't necessarily want an easier game.

Europe still doesn't have a concrete release date beyond "Coming soon."

Update: A PlayStation.blog post also reveals that an "Encore" expansion pack will be released for Eden in the coming months. Dylan Cuthbert also adds that Trophies can't be collected if you die and choose to use a Continue. The added time should help, though.

SOCOM 1.30 patch brings Trophies and more tomorrow

SOCOM: Confrontation's highly-anticipated 1.30 update, which has been met with delay after delay, will finally be released on January 9th, at 5AM EST/2AM PST. Hey, that's in a couple of hours! The patch brings with it Trophies (a list of them can be viewed here), D-pad lean-in, a Quick Match/Party system, as well as key bug fixes and new features.

The update will take an hour or two to happen, so the game will be down until approximately 7AM EST/4AM PST. And ouch -- this patch will also wipe out all player statistics.

It's been a long time coming, Slant Six! Let's hope everything goes smoothly.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

PAIN glitch fixed, world now has solid ground

During the holiday break, we discovered a terrible bug in PAIN that rendered new purchases of the Abusement Park expansion completely unplayable. Looks like the bug has been identified and squashed. Scott Goryl from SCEA updated us saying the glitch is fixed. Those that experienced the bug will want to go back to the PlayStation Store and re-download the expansion pack.

With SCEA back in the full swing of things, we're hoping it won't be long until we see other eagerly awaited patches: SOCOM Confrontation's 1.3 patch, LittleBigPlanet save data fix, and Penny Arcade Adventures Ep. 2 save data fix.

SOCOM Confrontation 1.30 patch ready to go live ... in January

SOCOM fans looking forward to playing Confrontation over the holiday break won't be able to enjoy patch 1.30. Those expecting all the features of 1.30 will be disappointed to hear that the patch won't be available to download until the new year. "Unfortunately, due to the Holidays the update will not be approved by SCE Format QA until early next year. Our QA staff will be here, testing the game over vacation, but the SCE QA teams which must approve the update before release will not."

As of now, it appears the patch will be available during the week of January 5th or January 12th. While it's disappointing to have to wait so long, SOCOM fans have proven to be some of the most patient gamers out there.

[Thanks, Devin93!]

LittleBigPlanet 1.07 patch adds store, better search functionality

What is this, October? We thought we were done with LittleBigPlanet news after the game's release, but it seems the game just won't stop growing. While this patch news is nothing compared to the reveal of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid pack, it's still pretty snazzy. LittleBigPlanet is now at version 1.07 and the patch is pretty hefty (a whopping 67MB).

The update adds a new section to the LittleBigPlanet section of the game: the LittleBigStore. Here you can see all the costumes and packs that are currently for sale and purchase them. Bought a costume and don't want to search through your Popit menu for it? Simply select it in the in-game store and you'll automagically put it on. Pretty handy. Selecting a pack will "award" you with the items, just like at the end of a tutorial level, so you can see exactly what it contains.

The second big addition in version 1.07 is a revamp of the level search screen. You can now view the highest rated levels, the most hearted levels, the newest levels and the busiest levels. You can also search for levels via a text string, or via tags. Hopefully this will make finding awesome levels a lot easier.

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars gets update and price drop tomorrow

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars is getting a little bit smaller tomorrow. And by that, we don't mean the name -- we mean the price. The PlayStation Network-exclusive title will drop to $9.99.

If the price drop isn't enticing enough, Psyonix is also adding a brand new arena to the game for absolutely free -- no need to buy DLC. Here's the full list of new features:
  1. New "Cosmic" arena
  2. Improved performance in network games
  3. A server browser has been added during matchmaking
  4. Players can now view leaderboards during matchmaking
  5. News updates appear on the online page
  6. Meters added to evaluate players' connection speed
  7. Headsets can be plugged-in or swapped during gameplay
We always love seeing developers offering free updates to their games. Perhaps you'll want to check out SARPBC later tonight on the PlayStation Store.

[Thanks, Joel!]

SingStar backwards compatability patch arrives December 16th

Sony has announced (via ThreeSpeech) that the SingStar PS3 backwards compatability patch is on its way very soon. Tomorrow, in fact. The patch, which will allow you to switch between PS3 and PS2 SingStar discs without quitting the game. It's a feature that's been highly anticipated and which was announced at the Leipzig Game Convention this year.

The patch will arrive on December 16th at 10am GTM (EST +5) and will be automatically downloaded when you start up the game. Not only will this remove those awkward atmospheric lulls during parties, but it should add My SingStar Online functionality to the entire SingStar back catalog.

Playing Fallout 3 has been

a little frustrating because of the

time a PSN notification occurs. But thankfully, a patch has gone live in Europe (Update: and now America!) that finally squashes the bug. The patch also adds Trophy support. (Check out the Trophy list here.) Enjoy being able to play Fallout 3 whilst keeping your sanity.
