Don't get mad! Get even with Tekken

This ad for PSP's Tekken: Dark Resurrection gets my vote as the best PSP ad ever. Of course, there really isn't much competition when all the other ads seem to be dumb, immature, racist, or feature way too much man-nudity. I don't want to say anything else, because the punchline works best when you don't know what's coming. Check out the rest of these ads by heading over to saveitfortekken.tv.

Tekken energizes Koreans

The PSP is surprisingly strong in Korea (most likely because Nintendo of Korea doesn't really exist). Not only do they giant PSP displays, they also get exclusive Tekken bundles. Now, they also get energy drinks. The "Enerzen" drink will proudly boast art from Dark Resurrection. I think they're trying to say if you drink their product, you'll be as buff as Jin. But be careful! If you drink too much, you might turn into the awfully stupid Devil Jin.

U.S. software sales chart: July 30 - Aug. 5

U.S. software sales chart: July 30 - Aug. 5Now that we gave you blokes in the UK your top 10 list, it's time for us Americans to see what the hot items were last week. Chances are you might have guessed Nintendo DS games are still dominating the top spots, and if you did, you're exactly right.

1) New Super Mario Bros. (NDS)
2) Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day (NDS)
3) NCAA Football 07 (Xbox 360)
4) NCAA Football 07 (PS2)
5) Mario Kart DS (NDS)
6) Trauma Center: Under the Knife (NDS)
7) Sprint Cars: Road to Knoxville (PS2)
8) Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PSP)
9) Fight Night Round 3 (Xbox 360)
10) Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (Xbox 360)

The top four look a lot like they did the week before, but Tekken tumbled down the chart, dropping from the fifth spot to the eighth. It will be interesting to see if it can hang in there for a few more weeks. You can dooooo eeeet!

Valkyrie Profile, Tekken & Loco Roco on The 1UP Show

This week's episode of The 1UP Show has a ton of PSP love. First, they have an excellent debate about Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, the highly anticipated RPG coming out for PSP this week. James Mielke, a fan of the PlayStation classic seems pretty enamored by the PSP version. In his written review, he calls the game "an adventurous, risk-taking RPG," and awards it a mighty 8.0. However, not everyone at Ziff Davis agrees with such a high score. Shane speaks of the PSP-exclusive slowdown and load times, calling it a "lazy port." He complains that releases like this encourage PSP developers to make lazy ports, a fear that we all share. Make sure you watch the review to see the hot-tempered debate.

But that's not the only PSP love on this week's episode. They also have absolutely awesome footage of Tekken: Dark Resurrection. We know it's going to be awesome, but it's great to see the great graphics and awesome load times visualized in handy video form.

Finally, if you missed last week's episode, they had an entire episode dedicated to Loco Roco. With these three great exclusives heading to the PSP, the haters can't say that we don't have a kick-ass games lineup.

Get your PSP deals here

With the high price of games today, there's no reason any gamer should have to pay full price, and the CAGs at Cheapassgamer.com continually find some of the best deals around. I've sifted through them, found the very best PSP deals and compiled them to save you, my fellow fanboys, a few bucks. Keep in mind, you need to act fast because some of these deals may expire soon.

While I know many of you are holding out for the Hey Verne series to come to UMD, you can pick up some great UMDs while you're waiting for hell to freeze over. The following UMD movies are only $10 at For Your Entertainment (FYE) stores: Batman, The Goonies, Dukes of Hazzard, Spawn, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alien, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Da Ali G Show Season 1, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Version 4, Training Day, Rush Hour 1 and 2, Predator and Ong Bak: Thai Warrior.

1GB SanDisk Pro Duo for $38
The Dell Online Store has the memory stick for only $38. With the recent news of the 2.5/2.6 downgrader, a good-sized memory stick will go a long way in satisfying your homebrew needs. Buy it here.

Prince of Persia: Revelations for $16

Gamestop has dropped the price of Prince of Persia: Revelations to the low price of $18. However, you can get it cheaper by using the PPLAY15 code during checkout to receive 10 percent off, or use the SAVER code for free shipping. Revelations didn't receive the best reviews around - a 68 percent to be exact - but for $16, you can't go wrong. Click here.

Preorder Tekken: Dark Resurrection for $35 shipped [CAG
]
Outpost is offering Namco's next-edition fighter for preorder for only $35 shipped. I'll be honest, I soured on this series after Tekken 2, but I know there's a few people out there who spend their nights dreaming of Nina Williams. Preorder it here.

Now, how's that for a slice of fried gold?

Games to get this summer

It's widely regarded amongst the gaming community that the summer months usually bring forth little excitement as many high-profile, AAA titles, that receive the most interest are nowhere to be found then. This summer, it seems, things are different, if only for us PSP owners. It seems a lot of great titles are coming out during these hot months, and IGN has compiled a list of their most anticipated. I know that I can't wait for Tekken Dark Resurrection.

Tekken Dark Resurrection video bonanza

It appears Tekken Dark Resurrection is looking pretty sweet. Sort of early PS2-ish, we'd say.

And no, we're not going to launch into a "looks good for a PSP game" tirade, mostly because it appears the PSP has had a pretty good run so far in the graphics department with titles like Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Fight Night Round 3. More eye candy! Yay!

Online ghost play for Dark Resurrection

Famitsu, the Japanese publication that trumps all those other gaming magazines in Zimbabwe (and then some), has revealed that while Tekken Dark Resurrection will likely not see any infrastructure online play when it hits stores in the US on June 26, it just might be getting some multiplayer action from the spiritual front. Players will be able to download ghosts of selected world-class players that you can save to your Memory Stick, either via the PSP or PC. The arcade version of Dark Resurrection already sports this feature, says the article, which means absolutely nothing to me because I live nowhere near a reasonably stocked arcade. Boo-erns!

Tekken Dark Resurrection being readied

Namco, in a classic “oh what the hell” moment, decided to release a few more details about their previously announced Tekken game for the PSP. The game, titled Tekken Dark Resurrection, will be based off the Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection game currently crowding arcades. Over 30 characters will make an appearance as will some background stages, albeit with new visual detail. The PSP version will sport wireless ad-hoc play and a range of other PSP-exclusive modes.

Development, according to Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, is about 60% through, so hold on to your joypads while we keep our eyes peeled for any new information.

[Thanks, Jon D]

[UPDATE: Here are some poster shots of the game, likely taken at Namco's press event for TDR. Thanks to Kevin for the link!]

The PSP to see some hot Tekken action

Man, the Japanese gaming media always has the dibs on the latest news. It could be because the stuff's all happening in their backyards, but I'm willing to chalk it up to journalistic diligence. What's the nitty-gritty of it? Tekken is in development for the PSP, so says Weekly Famitsu. Namco then shut their yap and refused to spill anything else until E3 this May. Are you excited? We're so thrilled we're dropping kittens. Not just ordinary kittens, though; kittens with flaming eye sockets that were just pitched off a cliff by their reverse-mohawked, power-mad fathers.
