While Dead Space may not have the ambition of other shooters, it certainly has more polish. The methodical pacing reveals a brilliantly designed shooting mechanic. "Strategic dismemberment" may be a term EA PR coined up, but it perfectly describes the game. Cutting off enemy limbs not only looks brutal, but feels absolutely visceral. Each weapon features unique characteristics -- even the standard pistol is made more interesting due to a clever secondary fire mechanic. Dead Space has everything a gamer could want, from a compelling story, to stunning graphics, to inspired sound design. Well, everything except multiplayer. Perhaps they'll change that in the inevitable sequel.
