In the celebration of all things great and American, we're proud to present the characters of <em>inFamous</em> and <em>Prototype</em> cross-dressing. YAY! (See <em>inFamous</em>' Cole after the break.)<br /><br />Okay, so you're probably wondering where these images <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/op-ed/6228-Yahtzees-Prototype-vs-InFamous-Challenge">came from</a>. Yahtzee presented a challenge to the development teams of these two games after he couldn't decide which game was better in a recent episode of <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/789-Prototype">Zero Punctuation</a>. So, he jokingly said the "winner" would be whichever team sends in an image of the other game's protagonist cross-dressing.<br /><br />And now the world is a much better place.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/04/happy-4th-of-july-heres-alex-mercer-with-boobs-cole-mcgrath-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Happy 4th of July! So this is kinda confusing, try to roll with us. Developer Reality Pump <a href="http://www.twoworlds2.com/">announced</a> that it's working on <em>Two Worlds II</em>, due this winter. Only ... it had already announced a sequel to <em>Oblivion</em>-esque FPS RPG called <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/two-worlds-the-temptation-actually-a-sequel-not-expansion/"><em>Two Worlds: The Temptation</em></a>. We're pretty sure the team just decided to go with the number instead of the subtitle, but we guess we'll <em>never know</em>. (Yeah, we've emailed them.)<br /><br />Set two years after the original, <em>TW II</em> promises "completely overhauled AI and balancing standards, experienced authors, [an] active combat system and the brand-new engine." Here's hoping the changes can make the sequel not so ... you know ... wretched?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/two-worlds-sequel-this-winter">Eurogamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/hey-someones-making-two-worlds-ii/">Hey, someone's making Two Worlds II</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 22:45:00 EST. <div align="left">So there's this contest going on at the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/07/03/create-a-comic-get-into-our-exclusive-comic-con-events-and-score-some-schwag/">PlayStation Blog</a>, but you needn't bother. As you can see above, we've already won. If you <em>insist</em> on trying your luck, you can find the comic template at the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3685182684/sizes/l/">PlayStation Flickr account</a>. In order to win the prize, which is access to VIP events at Comic Con on July 22 &amp; 23, including hands-on time with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/a-crack-in-time"><em>Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time</em></a> and other games. <br /><br />Can't make it to Comic Con? There's still some schwag in it for you, so you may as well give it a go. Except we've already won, as we've said. Still, your entries will need to involve something to do with <strong>time </strong>and must be sent to <a href="mailto:rcfcomiccon@gmail.com">rcfcomiccon@gmail.com</a> by midnight, July 10. Include your name, address and let them know whether you'll be in San Diego on July 22. </div>

<div align="left">The founding of a nation <em>is</em> pretty significant<em> </em>and well worth getting excited about. The best way to display said excitement is, of course, with massive, colorful airborne explosions, a.k.a. fireworks. Tomorrow night, towns across the USA will be putting on fireworks displays, big and small -- but why should you have to wait for it to get dark? The games you'll find after the break will let you get all explode-y from the comfort of your living room, without the charred mess and frantic 911 call. So, put on your favorite patriotic tune (it's "<a href="http://www.ilovewavs.com/Holidays/July4/The%20Stars%20&amp;%20Stripes%20Forever%20-%20John%20Philip%20Sousa.wav">The Stars &amp; Stripes Forever</a>" for us) and make with the clicking!</div>

Hey, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be enjoying the holiday weekend? (Also known as plain ol' "Saturday" to our friends in Europe.) Our Michael Jackson-related coverage has been -- for better or worse -- rather lacking. For those of you who haven't tired of the media surrounding the late pop star, you may want to entertain yourself with this rather creative recreation of the singer's classic "Smooth Criminal." This time, the action is recreated in PSN game <em>Rag-Doll Kung Fu</em>.<br /><br />Check it out after the break and enjoy the holiday!<p><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/michael-jacksons-smooth-criminal-recreated-in-rag-doll-kung-fu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal, recreated in Rag Doll Kung Fu</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com"><img src="http://playstation.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq Playstation" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/michael-jacksons-smooth-criminal-recreated-in-rag-doll-kung-fu/">Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal, recreated in Rag Doll Kung Fu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">Joystiq Playstation</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 20:00:00 EST. We'd be lying if we didn't say we're a bit worried about the future of gaming controllers. Between the Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/motionplus">MotionPlus</a>, Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-natal">Project Natal</a> and Sony's ... erm ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-motion-controller">motion thing</a>, our precious game pads get more and more antique looking every day. And according to a recent patent filed by Sony that <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/02/sony-patents-a-motion-control-system-that-uses-ordinary-objects-as-controllers/">Siliconera</a> found, our precious controllers have one more thing to fear: everyday objects. <br /><br />That's right, friends -- in the future, we could be using our <em>real-life</em> keys to open doors, our swords to slice up fools, and our guns (not outside of the US) to shoot up the screen "accidentally." The patent shows off a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-eye">PlayStation Eye</a>-based system that can recognize 3D objects and use them in-game based on various actions taken by the player -- something Microsoft claims it's Natal is also capable of doing. Various household items will be affected in different ways, the example given being a U-shaped object that, when turned upwards, becomes a sword, versus a U-shaped block when facing downwards (think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo"><em>Halo</em></a>'s Covenant Energy Sword). Apparently the system is able to scan a whole mess of objects and store them in a databank for future use. Like so much future tech we've seen recently, we're taking this one with a full truckload of salt until we get some face time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/sony-patents-more-motion-tech-uses-everyday-objects/">Sony patents more motion tech, uses everyday objects</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 17:30:00 EST. Break out those tattered jeans and torn up flannel, because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> is getting a new DLC pack for the punk in all of us. Dubbed the Epitaph Punk-O-Rama Track Pack, the download features three tunes from three separate well-known Epitaph artists. It may be a bit more on the mainstream side of punk, but they're good tracks nonetheless.<br /><br />Here's what you'll get (440<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> XBL / $5.49 PSN):<br />
<ul>
    <li>"<a style="" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aauw4E6YUU">21st Century Digital Boy</a>" by Bad Religion ($1.99 PSN / 200 Wii Points)<br /></li>
    <li>"<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6axOY4PBusk">Linoleum</a>" by NOFX ($1.99 PSN / 200 Wii Points)</li>
    <li>"<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NxfShLDLoI">Ruby Soho</a>" by Rancid ($1.99 PSN / 200 Wii Points)</li>
</ul>
The track pack is available for download now in the US and Europe. Who's about to rock? We may or may not salute you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/guitar-hero-world-tour-gets-punk-rock-dlc-injection/">Guitar Hero: World Tour gets punk rock DLC injection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. Telltale has been churning out some fantastic adventure games as of late. The team responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sam-and-max"><em>Sam &amp; Max</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/strong-bad"><em>Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wallace-and-gromit"><em>Wallace &amp; Gromit</em></a> has found its games on both WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade. But why no love for the PlayStation Network? It's "easy," explains Dave Grossman to <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2009/jul/02/pc-games">The Guardian</a>. "Our engine doesn't run on the PlayStation yet."<br /><br />We'd like to think that the developers are working on making the engine that powers these games fully multi-platform. We don't see why Telltale couldn't handle the PS3, especially considering the success found by the folks behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/penny-arcade-adventures"><em>Penny Arcade Adventures</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/telltale-engine-doesnt-support-playstation-yet/">Telltale engine doesn't support PlayStation ... yet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 14:45:00 EST. Apparently EA is working on a sequel to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-2"><em>Skate 2</em></a>, if the <a href="http://twitter.com/epiclyTRIFE/status/2447024444">Epicly Trife twitter</a> is to be believed. <a href="http://www.epiclytrife.com/">Epicly Trife</a> (<strong>NSFW</strong>) is a site dedicated to skating, and its twitter account said the following: "I just got told 'tonight we gotta celebrate,' one of the bro's got offered to be in <em>SKATE 3</em>." By no means a confirmation, we're still excited, as <em>Skate 2</em> was not only a great sequel, but pretty much the best skating sim around. Plus, it's much easier to get up after falling down four flights of stairs in a video game, as gravity is a much more harsh mistress in real life.<br /><br />We've put in word to EA for comment, but with almost everyone taking the day off today, don't hold your breath for a response. We sure aren't.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5306835/yup-looks-like-therell-be-a-skate-3">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/rumor-skate-3-in-the-works/">Rumor: Skate 3 in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 14:00:00 EST. ... And for good reason, too. The company is bringing out two PS3 exclusives this year: <em>Quantum</em> and <em>Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2</em>. Considering its third-party status, Tecmo is really risking a lot by abandoning a traditional multiplatform approach.<br /><br />"Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price'," Tecmo's Kenji Matsubara told <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=218823">CVG</a>. "Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut."<br /><br />That's certainly a change of tone from a different third-party publisher, Activision. That company most recently made waves when it <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=218823">half-heartedly</a> "threatened" to remove support for PlayStation products. In spite of the difference in approaches, it's clear that the PS3's price needs to be lowered. Not only does the customer want it, but publishers are demanding it as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com"><img src="http://playstation.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq Playstation" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/tecmo-kindly-asks-for-a-ps3-price-cut/">Tecmo kindly asks for a PS3 price cut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">Joystiq Playstation</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 13:00:00 EST. Do you want more <em>Grand Theft Auto</em>? Well, that's what Todd Mitchell, analyst for Kaufman Bros. Equity Research wants. Nay, expects! Speaking to <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/two-new-gta-iv-dlc-episodes-due-next-year-analyst">GI.biz</a>, Mitchell stated that he's anticipating two more downloadable <em>GTA IV</em> episodes to launch after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/26/rockstar-announces-gta-the-ballad-of-gay-tony-coming-to-xbox-l/"><em>The Ballad of Gay Tony</em></a>. "It's been indicated to me that would be the case," he said. Additionally, with Microsoft's exclusivity deal covering only two episodes, these DLC add-ons may also appear on PS3.<br /><br />In addition to new <em>GTA IV</em> episodes, the analyst believes <em>GTA V</em> will debut some time in the 2011 fiscal year. The only reason it wasn't announced or teased in any way during E3, he believes, is "Rockstar's track record with delivering on time."<br /><br />The most curious of statements Mitchell made was regarding the possibility of a new <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> hitting the PlayStation 2 system. No, you read that right. He believes a PS2 port of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/grand-theft-auto-chinatown-wars-breaking-out-on-psp-this-fall/">PSP port</a> of the formerly DS-exclusive <em>Chinatown Wars</em> may hit the aging Sony system, although he admits he's not too "confident" about that prediction. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/michael-pachter-facts/">Pachter</a>, eat your heart out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/analyst-2-more-gtaiv-episodes-on-the-way/">Analyst: 2 more GTA IV episodes on the way, GTA V by fiscal 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 12:30:00 EST. Just like its Japanese counterpart, the English language version of <em>Monster Hunter Freedom Unite</em> will feature weekly downloadable content. Best of all, it'll be free! Expect updates every Friday for the next few months. The first content update, available today, is a new "Epic Hunting Quest" called "The Triumvirate of the Sands." This quest will feature the monsters Daimyo Hermitaur, Tigrex, Plesioth, and will take place in the desert (hence the "Sands" part, you see?). Survive and you'll be able to net 12300z.<br /><br />In order to download the DLC, all you need to do is boot up the game in your PSP and click Download from the start menu. No need to log on to the PlayStation Network or download anything from the PlayStation Store. Not bad, huh?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com"><img src="http://playstation.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq Playstation" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/weekly-monster-hunter-dlc-begins-today/">Weekly Monster Hunter DLC begins today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">Joystiq Playstation</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 11:45:00 EST. To be clear, Frozenbyte spokesman Joel Kinnunen wasn't saying that the company's fantasy action platformer <em>itself</em> is a mess, but everything surrounding it -- like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/29/trine-psn-costs-half-of-pc-version-scheduled-for-july-release/">price point disparity</a> between regions and territories -- has become quite the kerfuffle.<br /><br />The problem, apparently, is that <em>Trine</em> started life as PC game before migrating to PSN and (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/saywhut-trine-dev-says-xbla-release-is-speculation/">maybe</a>) XBLA. While that may be good for getting the game to as many people as possible, it's not ideal for a game launch.<br /><br />"<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> as a project is a big mess," Kinnunen said, "as opposed to <em>Trine</em> as a game, which is pretty sweet. Ultimately it's the game part that really matters and helps us sleep at night, though."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/trine-dev-project-is-a-big-mess/">Trine dev: Project is 'a big mess'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 11:00:00 EST. You've probably read the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/ninja-gaiden-sigma-2-box-art-revealed-only-for-playstation/">laundry list</a> of all the things that are new to the PS3-<em>exclusive</em> version of <em>Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2</em>. Among the list of three new playable characters is Momiji, first introduced in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword"><em>Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword</em></a> on Nintendo DS. Check out the footage after the break and watch as a proficient player (ie. not us) slashes through a horde of ninjas -- and don't miss her sweet bow &amp; arrow.<br /><br />We're still a bit miffed that his version is <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/team-ninja-bored-of-hyper-violence-wants-gaiden-to-evolve/">missing the gore</a> that made the original <em>Ninja Gaiden 2</em> notorious. Guess we'll have to stick with this improved -- and <em>artsier</em> -- version.<p><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/watch-sigma-2-exclusive-momoji-slash-up-some-ninjas/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch Sigma 2-exclusive Momiji slash up some ninjas</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com"><img src="http://playstation.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq Playstation" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/watch-sigma-2-exclusive-momoji-slash-up-some-ninjas/">Watch Sigma 2-exclusive Momiji slash up some ninjas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">Joystiq Playstation</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 11:00:00 EST. Though you might think they'd welcome a break from shoot-'em-ups, members of the military are known to be a rich breeding ground for hardcore gamers. Now, just in time for Independence Day, they have their very own space in which to catch each other in the friendliest of fire: The Military Online Gaming program, a Global Gaming League-powered service that kicks off on the 4th with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> tournament.<br /><br />Though support will start with the 360, a rep from the group responsible, Pro vs. GI Joe, told <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59384">Shacknews</a> that our fighting men and women will soon be able to blast one another on PC and PS3 too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/military-gets-its-own-gaming-network-the-mog/">Military gets its own gaming network, the MOG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 10:00:00 EST. We must warn you, however, before you rush into the gallery, full of hope for a more exciting, distinctive box art image: it's <em>exactly</em> the same as the UK box art seen yesterday, with the "PAL" label changed to "NTSC" and the PEGI rating box changed to an ESRB box. Okay, okay, maybe not <em>directly</em>, but by way of Joker setting up a nasty ruse for Gotham's greatest hero at Arkham Asylum itself. "Wii has no hardcore games" is about as old, lame and untrue as "the PS3 has no games," and "Xbox 360 has only shooters." Real gamers know that each of the platforms has its gems -- but not everyone can afford all three gaming consoles.<br /><br />Marvelous may be expanding its portfolio to include more non-Nintendo systems. Already, the publisher is working on a PS3 and Xbox 360 game, <em>Rainy Woods</em>; however, according to a report by <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/02/marvelous-considering-wii-to-playstation-3xbox-360-ports/">Siliconera</a>, the publisher may look into porting some of its diverse Wii lineup onto the HD systems. Games like <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes"><em>No More Heroes</em></a> and the upcoming <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/muramasa"><em>Muramasa</em></a> would certainly appeal to the hardcore PlayStation and Xbox crowds. In fact, Suda 51's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/suda-51-next-no-more-heroes-wont-be-on-wii/">most recent comments</a> suggest an HD future for his franchise. With just a little bit of polish, those two could easily transform from good-looking Wii games into gorgeous PS3 and 360 titles.<br /><br />[Thanks, tmacairjordan87!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/marvelous-looking-into-hd-ports-of-wii-games/">Marvelous looking into HD ports of Wii games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 21:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/valve">Valve</a> isn't quite as against the idea of developing games for the PS3 as we previously thought. Speaking to Valve's Doug Lombardi at the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2">Left 4 Dead 2</a> </em>event in London today (look out for the full interview soon), we discovered that the company is still "up on the idea" of developing for the PS3 -- it's just waiting until it has hired some decent PS3 coders. "If you look at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-orange-box"><em>The Orange Box</em></a> -- PC: 96 on Metacritic, 360: 96 on Metacritic, PS3 like... 84 or something. That's not even close to where we are right now with the 360 and PC and the reason is people."<br /><br />Lombardi went on to say that "we have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off. We can take the same sort of strides and get the quality out of the box and offer the same support post-launch on that platform, as well." Sounds like Valve-developed PS3 games are more a case of "when" than "if," nowadays. <br /><br />When asked whether Valve is actively seeking to hire PS3 developers, he noted that "Valve is <em>always</em> looking to hire people. So yeah, definitely." Are you a dedicated PS3 coder who wants to make <em>Left 4 Dead 3</em> for the system? You know <a href="http://www.valvesoftware.com/jobs.html">what to do</a>. We look forward to seeing your handiwork in late 2010.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/valve-up-on-idea-of-ps3-development-waiting-to-build-talented/">Valve 'up' on idea of PS3 development, waiting to build talented PS3 team</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 19:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a> isn't just smaller than the original PSP series -- it's more powerful. In fact, it features a processor that's more than 40% faster than the original. The original PSP (1000-3000) series include a processor capable of reaching 333MHz speeds. <a href="https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=460048&amp;fcc_id=%27AK8PN1001A1%27">FCC documents</a> reveal that the PSP Go (N1001) includes a processor that can go up to 480MHz.<br /><br />It's unclear what the added processor power will be used for. It may be necessary for PSP Go-specific features, like in-game XMB. But will it be used in more traditional gaming applications? If so, could we possibly see PSP Go-exclusive games? Perhaps. Nintendo has released a very small number of applications exclusively for the upgraded <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsi">DSi</a>, which also features a much beefier processor than its predecessor so there's portable precedence.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.sonyinsider.com/2009/07/02/sonys-psp-go-true-processor-speed-revealed/">Sony Insider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/psp-go-processor-more-than-40-faster-than-original/">PSP Go processor more than 40% faster than original</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 18:40:00 EST. That is to say: All forty characters in the game will be available from the first moment <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/tekken-6"><em>Tekken 6</em></a> graces your disc drive. Speaking to <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/unlockables_are_outdated_says_tekken_chief.html">VideoGamer</a>, <em>Tekken</em> series director Katsuhiro Harada stated -- through a translator -- that unlockables in games are "outdated."<br /><br />Harada says that unlockables were originally implemented in order to extend the life of arcade games. As characters are unlocked, players would have more reason to come back to the machine. We definitely wasted a few quarters just for the chance to play as Kuma, so we'd say the plan worked. Harada said that unlockable characters were added to the home version for the same reason, implying that it would discourage gamers from renting the game instead of buying it.<br /><br />Fast-forward to <em>Tekken 6</em>, and Harada says that unlockables are "outdated now ... especially with online play." He notes that today's gamers would be irritated by competing online against characters that they have yet to unlock. Thus, you won't find any unlockable characters in <em>Tekken 6</em>.<br /><br />Of course, history tells us we still might see some characters <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/soulcalibur-iv-getting-vader-and-yoda-dlc/">for sale</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com"><img src="http://xbox.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq Xbox" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/no-unlockable-characters-in-tekken-6/">No unlockable characters in Tekken 6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com">Joystiq Xbox</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 17:15:00 EST. The legendary musician has been at the forefront of hip-hop for basically forever, and is credited with inventing the art of messing with records to create noise, upon which <em>the entire game </em>is based. <br /><br />In addition to appearing in-game, Flash contributed his own mixes to the soundtrack. In the video above, you can hear a segment of his mashup of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" and N.E.R.D.'s "Lapdance." After the break, we've embedded a clip of the game featuring a mashup of his own "Here Comes My DJ" and Gary Numan's new wave anthem to isolation, "Cars."<br /><br />MTV recorded <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/07/01/grandmaster-flash-plays-dj-hero-for-the-first-time/">footage</a> of Flash trying the game for the first time, and let's just say his performance <em>in</em> the game is much more impressive than his performance <em>of</em> the game. Sony is printing money with its slowly expanding library of PSone classics on the PlayStation Store. Playable on both PSP and PS3, these downloadable titles have been an easy way to prey upon gamer nostalgia. Unsurprisingly, the most iconic games of the PS1 era take the top of the PSone downloads chart in the month of June:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Final Fantasy VII</li>
    <li>Street Fighter Alpha</li>
    <li>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night</li>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot</li>
    <li>Twisted Metal 2</li>
    <li>Spyro the Dragon</li>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot: WARPED</li>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot 2</li>
    <li>Wild Arms</li>
    <li>Tekken 2</li>
</ol>
It shouldn't be too surprising to see multiple <em>Crash Bandicoot</em> games take positions in the top 10. He was, after all, PlayStation's official mascot back in the day. Let's remember him with some classic PS1 ads after the break.<p><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/final-fantasy-street-fighter-and-castlevania-top-the-psone-sale/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Castlevania top the PSone sales charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com"><img src="http://playstation.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq Playstation" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/final-fantasy-street-fighter-and-castlevania-top-the-psone-sale/">Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Castlevania top the PSone sales charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">Joystiq Playstation</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. So, in case it wasn't made absolutely clear by the box art, here's what Obsidian Entertainment's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/21/alpha-protocol-dev-diary-yaps-about-dialogue-system-headsla/">head-slammin'</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alpha-protocol"><span style="font-style: italic;">Alpha Protocol</span></a> <span style="font-weight: bold;">isn't</span>:<br />

Joking aside, it's quite likely that we're simply oblivious to the subtitle's significance to the plot -- the one involving a sneaky rocket-propelled grenade that taps your phone and then blows off your ear. We're just gonna come right out and say it: July 2009 may be the worst month for new retail releases ever. Unless you like 2D fighters that is, because in <em>that</em> case, it's awesome. Next week's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly">Rock Band Weekly</a> brings the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/green-day-dlc-packs-coming-to-rock-band/">announced</a> three-pack from Green Day's <em>21st Century Breakdown </em>album. The tracks are apparently the first offerings from an "exclusive partnership" between Harmonix and Warner Music to bring the band's songs to the platform. <div style="text-align: left;">Okay Sony, we forgive you for the last couple of weeks. Today's PSN update is chock full of content, with particular emphasis on downloadable games. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punisher-no-mercy"><span style="font-style: italic;">Punisher</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/topatoi"><span style="font-style: italic;">Topatoi</span></a> are joined by <span style="font-style: italic;">James Pond 2</span> and<span style="font-style: italic;"> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/numblast">Numblast</a></span>, plus a demo for <span style="font-style: italic;">Red Baron</span>. There's also the usual amount of DLC for those rhythm games you kids love so much, along with a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/motorstorm-pacific-rift"><span style="font-style: italic;">MotorStorm Pacific Rift</span></a> expansion. <br /><br />PSP owners can grab <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monster-hunter-freedom-unite"><span style="font-style: italic;">Monster Hunter Freedom Unite</span></a>, a PSP version of <span style="font-style: italic;">Numblast</span> and some other games, but if none take your fancy at least there's some new <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-unplugged">Rock Band Unplugged</a> </span>DLC. </div>

Our problem isn't that we're waffling on whether or not to buy <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27127238&amp;ref=sr_gallery_7&amp;&amp;ga_search_query=iphone+sleeve&amp;ga_search_type=handmade&amp;ga_page=3&amp;order=date_desc&amp;includes[]=tags&amp;includes[]=title">one of these</a> gorgeous, felt, PlayStation One-shaped iPhone cases. Our problem is that we can't <em>stop</em> buying them. Every time we confirm our order we think of yet another reason we need one. What if we lose the first one in a house fire? What if the second one goes through the wash? What if we want our iPhone to have a different yet identical outfit for every day of the week like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug">Doug Funnie</a>?<br /><br />We hope you understand our predicament. We also hope you understand why they seem to be <em>temporarily</em> sold out.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gizmodo.com/5305602/i-dare-you-to-not-buy-this-playstation-iphone-case-immediately">Gizmodo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/we-cant-stop-buying-this-ps1-iphone-case/">We can't stop buying this PS1 iPhone case</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 14:45:00 EST. Here in the States, we've grown accustomed to certain luxuries: subsidized gasoline for our free Hummers (hey, gotta stimulate that economy!); a complimentary 72oz soda with every purchase (just buy anything!); a lifetime supply of type 2 diabetes; and, of course, monthly updates from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NPD/">NPD</a> charting the sales numbers of the major video game consoles. Our friends in the UK aren't so fortunate. So when we get a peek behind that curtain, we look to share it with you.<br /><br />And here, courtesy of UK retailer GAME's first-half fiscal statement, we find data from GfK Chart-Track for sales up to June 27th, 2009. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is in the lead with the DS, having sold 2.7m in the past year, bringing its total up to 9.1m units (that includes 300,000 DSi units sold since launch). The Wii is in second place with 5.4m, up 2.3 from last year. And then we get to the main attraction: 360 and PS3 sales. <br /><br />You'll recall that in February, Microsoft claimed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/microsoft-says-360-leads-ps3-by-1m-in-europe/">the 360 bested the PS3 in overall European sales</a> by 1m units, citing GfK Chart-Track data again. In the UK, the Xbox is siting pretty with 3.9m units, up 1.7 from last year, while the PS3 is at 2.2m, up 900k from last year (and, coincidentally, right where Microsoft would've been a year ago). In between the "big boys" is the PSP, with 3.3m consoles sold, up 500k from last year.<br /><br />It's weird: despite their genetic differences (three stomachs? gross!) the video game shopping trends of UK citizens sound an awful lot like those in the States.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/uk-sales-wii-and-ds-up-top-360-besting-ps3-at-the-bottom/">UK sales: Wii and DS up top; 360 besting PS3 at the bottom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 12:45:00 EST. During an interview with <a href="http://www.gamebusiness.jp/article.php?id=51">GameBusiness.jp</a>, Sony's product planning division head honcho, Naoya Matsui, commented that Sony always had plans to go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umd">UMD</a>-less, and that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a> is the fruition of all that planning. "We'd planned to release a PSP model without a UMD drive since the very beginning," Matsui said. He further makes his case by stating, "But if we'd simply released the hardware, there wouldn't have been much for everyone to enjoy. We needed to prepare the right environment for it first - things like the transferral [sic] of content with the PS3 and PSN, and PC software to manage content like music and movies such as Media Go."<br /><br />Matsui explains that part of the progression of the PSP to the PSP Go is that Sony had to wait until digital content was on par with physical media, and that the timing now is right. That's one of the reasons Sony is still selling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/see-the-psp-3000-and-psp-go-side-by-side/">the existing PSP alongside the Go</a>. Well, that, and it's probably not a good idea to have a single handheld that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/sony-bringing-psp-go-october-1-for-249-in-north-america/">costs as much as a Wii</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/sony-umd-free-psp-was-always-planned">Edge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/sony-psp-without-umd-always-the-plan/">Sony: PSP without UMD 'always the plan'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 11:45:00 EST.
