The final PSN update of 2009 is all about the sales, with PSN and Sega DLC getting price cuts. There will be no update next week due to the holiday. Also, for all you epic space-opera shooter fans, Wing Commander IV is available as a PSone Classic for $6 -- the thing weighs in at 2.25GB. Check out the full PSN update after the break.

Publisher Aksys tells Siliconera that Battle Fantasia will release on PSN "next week." It's yet to be confirmed whether the PSN update will occur on Tuesday or Thursday next week (considering the holiday), but our money's on Tuesday. There's currently no details on pricing for the fighter, however.

Are you a Trophy hunter? If so, then this is a terrific opportunity for you. Aksys is allowing its fans to partake in a Trophy-naming challenge for the upcoming PSN version of Battle Fantasia. Five new achievements, not found in the original Xbox 360 version of the game, are currently nameless:

• Outside of training mode, dish out a total of over 1,000,000 damage.
• In single-player arcade mode, seduce every character with Ashley's taunt.
• In single-player arcade mode, get 25+ hits with Coyori's Cat Storm.
• Outside of training mode, as Death Bringer, defeat an opponent with a single move.
• Outside of training mode, win a match with only 1 HP left.

Arc System Works' quirky 2D fighting game, Battle Fantasia, never found a PS3 release in the States. That's about to change later this year, as Aksys plans on releasing the cult title as a downloadable PlayStation Network game this fall. The publisher told Siliconera that players can expect "some surprises" for the digital release, but we're not sure if gamers will care. The lengthy delay and lackluster critical reviews may fend off the wary. Battle Fantasia will need some new content (and a low price point!) to offset the lengthy delay and low critical reviews of the original.

Arc System Works' quirky 2D fighter, Battle Fantasia, saw a US release last year ... as an Xbox 360 exclusive, although the game is available on PS3 in the rest of the world (Europe and Japan). However, it looks as though American PS3 owners may be getting a new chance at playing the game.

Siliconera discovered a recently-appended entry to the ESRB listing for Battle Fantasia. The ratings board has the game covered on PS3 and "PSN via PS3." Looks like our commenter, GENTLEMEN, will be getting his wish afterall.

The big releases are starting to drip out as the industry steadily ramps up for yet another packed holiday season. This week, the Xbox 360 plays host to some decent titles including the likes of Rock Band 2, Pure, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. On top of those, we've also got Armored Core: For Answer and ... um ... Battle Fantasia. To our disappointment, we have learned that Battle Fantasia is not a fighting game about the Disney movie Fantasia. It's a shame, really, because we were ready to throw down with some tutu-wearing hippos.

Some of you might have been rather disappointed when it was announced that the Arc Systems Works fighter Battle Fantasia will not be headed to US shores on the PS3. Granted, the story in a fighting game usually isn't what's most important, but Battle Fantasia is unique because it has a number of RPG elements in it.

Fear not, fanboys, now those who want their experience in English won't have to resort to buying a Xbox 360. Battle Fantasia has been announced for Europe for a release in Quarter 1 2009 on the PS3. The PS3 is region-free, so feel free to import the game when it arrives on the Old Continent.

We know that Battle Fantasia, the 2.5-D fighter by Arc System Works, is coming to the PS3 since it had a demo on the Japanese PS Store a while back. It's the first we've heard of Guilty Gear 2, but looking at the franchise history, it'll probably find its way to the PS3 as well. Why not play the games, though? If you'll be near the Los Angeles Convention Center for the big Anime Expo this weekend, you can get your hands on a playable version of both. Sounds like fun!

Battle Fantasia is an upcoming fighting game from Arc System Works -- a name fighting fans will recognize from the Guilty Gear series. The game will be released soon in Japan, hence why there's currently a playable demo up on the Japanese PSN. On the demo there are two modes you can play: versus CPU and story mode. We headed towards versus CPU first to get a feel for the controls. Sure enough, we engaged in battle, played around with the commands, and ultimately felt that the experience was most akin to Street Fighter Alpha. Everything from combo inputs to that specials bar at the bottom of the screen all mimic the classic set up. The artistic style is unique, though; it's like Guilty Gear meets Disney's version of medieval times.

Arc System Works is breaking away from their high-res 2D sprite model for fighters and are trying something new with Battle Fantasia -- it's still 2D, but with uniquely 3D characters. If we could describe the result, it'd probably be a cross between Guilty Gear and Radiata Stories. The colors and character designs just seem reminiscent of those found in Tri-Ace's under-appreciated RPG, but the fighting is distinctly Guilty Gear in execution. A while back we showed you some screenshots of another of Arc System Works' upcoming games, BlazeBlue (translation isn't perfect, but it'll do). Now Arc System Works is taking a stab at another 2D fighting game, this one more in the cutesy, Arcana Hearts style -- except you can play as more than little girls. Details are scarce, as this new game, dubbed Battle Fantasia, has just been revealed in Famitsu, but it seems there are some kind of HP and MP gauges. A story mode and online mode will be available for the PS3 and 360 when the game releases in May ... in Japan. Who knows if we'll see it stateside, but remember, PS3 games are region free.
