Use your eyes of judgment on this Eye of Judgment PSP trailer

As previously announced, Eye of Judgment is making its way to the PSP. This trailer – fresh from GamesCom – answers all of our pressing questions from before. How? It looks as though Eye of Judgment won't support the PSP camera, as previously speculated. Instead, the PSP version looks to take advantage of an in-game deck, and will feature a brand new story, complete with comic book-style cutscenes. Gameplay will be rebalanced for the PSP game but we wonder -- without the camera gimmick, will people still be interested?

Eye of Judgment seen on PSP

There's yet another game coming out that will take advantage of the PSP camera beyond Invizimals. SCEE announced Eye of Judgment will make its way to the PSP, and will be playable at GamesCom. Originally a PS3 game, Eye of Judgment allows players to use real trading cards in a dueling game not unlike Yu-Gi-Oh!. The creatures printed on the cards are detected by the camera and rendered on-screen in 3D. While unconfirmed, the PSP version is likely to operate in the same way.

We do have a few questions regarding the PSP version of Eye of Judgment. For example, will PSP owners be able to use the same cards from the PS3 version? Will PSP owners be able to compete online against PS3 owners? Hopefully, all will be answered later at GamesCom.

Eye of Judgment players enter Dioskuri tourney for exclusive cards

You'd think that simply by still playing Eye of Judgment you'd be among the top current players, but it's not quite that simple. Somewhere, there are apparently people still battling it out for supremacy in the cam-based card battler. Beginning next Thursday, they'll be entered into a new tournament for the game that will award rare cards to the top performers.

If you'd like to save yourself $250 on the cards, you simply have to opt in to the Dioskuri Tournament next week and be in the top 100 of the leaderboard when the dust settles on the 26th.

A few new details on Eye of Judgment: Set 3

There's a nice write up over on the PS.Blog for Eye of Judgment fans regarding the upcoming Set 3. In case you somehow forgot, Set 3 will be out in two weeks on October 16 and will be bringing with it 100 new cards and also trophy support. You can have a look at some of the new cards from the set over on the PS.Blog.

Set 3 will also introduce ten new abilities, including the abilities to change card affiliation and peek at an opponent's hand. We wonder how that last one's going to work. Another revealed ability makes opponents unable to sacrifice creatures.

It's good to see such strong support for Eye of Judgment, even if other PS Eye games haven't really taken off. The Eye of Judgment turns one year old this month, and already in that short time we've seen two full expansions with Set 2 back in April. If SCEA keeps this up, perhaps we should be expecting a new set every six months?

The Eye of Judgment expands again, adds Trophies

Sony and Wizards of the Coast are ramping up yet another 100-card expansion to their genre-bending PS3 hybrid, The Eye of Judgment. The new set, titled Biolith Rebellion Set 3, will bring the game's total number of collectible cards to 310.

As with the previous expansion, an additional PSN purchase will be required before any newly unwrapped cards can be used in game. However, this time around the download will add more than just new animations and rules, including Trophy support, background story and a "set of new abilities that encourage more tactical playing based on creature formation." The new cards are expected to arrive at retail outlets on October 16, provided the shipment doesn't meet with any unfortunate accidents along the way.

The Eye of Judgment Set 3 coming, adds Trophies

The Eye of Judgment continues to expand. The revolutionary Eye-enabled card game will get its second expansion pack on October 16th. Biolith Rebellion Set 3 will add 100 new cards to EoJ. Once again, players will have to purchase the expansion on the PS Store, in addition to new cards that will make their way to retail stores.

With Biolith Rebellion Set 3, the total number of cards goes up to 310. Set 3 will also enable other content, such as XMB Trophy support, and a "set of new abilities that encourage more tactical playing based on creature formation." Set 3 will also add some background bonus material.

[Thanks, Will S.!]

Deal: Eye of Judgment and camera for $40

When you consider the regular price of The Eye of Judgment is $65, this deal becomes readily apparent. This Eye-enabled card game used real cards and the PS3 to create an experience unlike any other -- Yu-Gi-Oh! cosplayers, this game's for you. Considering it includes the (rarely supported) PlayStation Eye, the price isn't too shabby. You can pick up it for $40 at Circuit City, but your local Wal-Mart may also have it for even cheaper: $30. Check your local store to see if you can get lucky.

(P.S. Pick up the game and you'll be just in time for the world tournament, too.)

Eye of Judgment tourney starts Aug. 14

They laughed at you. They laughed so hard and long that you can still hear it echoing off of your Battlestar Galactica posters. They chortled as you tried to get the angle of your PlayStation Eye just right, chuckled as you slid the cards into their Topps-brand folder. And they absolutely howled as you bought pack after pack of Eye of Judgment boosters.

But that's all about to change. You've heard about a tournament that's starting on August 14, a tournament for EoJ players just like you from all over the globe, all vying for supremacy. Now you'll be the one laughing -- laughing all the way to the bank! ... Well, not to the bank so much as an EoJ card with your likeness and a chance to duel Yusuke Watanabe from Japan Studio. But still ... you'll totally be laughing.

The first official Eye of Judgment tournament begins soon

The first official Eye of Judgment tournament will begin in just over a week. The competition, which is global, will last from August 14th to the 21st. During this time you can participate in as many matches as you want in order to get higher on the leaderboard. In order to participate, simply log in to play the game as normal and select "Online Tournament" from the Online Mode select screen. You'll be potentially playing against people from all over the world.

The prizes are pretting intriguing. The overall winner will receive a custom digital card for their deck builder, which will include their name, face and a comment. Useless in game, perhaps, but pretty cool to throw out there to confuse your opponent. They, and nine runners up, will receive unique in-game titles "for eternal glory!" If you want to participate, there are no specific rules regarding deck building. Just jump in with your favorite and see how far you get. For more information, check out the PlayStation Blog.

Eye of Judgment online tournament begins next week

Finally, America is getting its own Eye of Judgment tournament. "Children of Juno" will begin next Thursday on July 17th, and will run for one week. Participating in the tournament is easy: you just boot up Eye of Judgment and select "Online Tournament" from the menu. You can play as much as you want during this time, as you vouch for the top spot on the leaderboards.

There won't be any prizes, other than bragging rights, but for those whose card collections have been gathering dust, this is as good an excuse as any to finally bust out those decks. For complete rules and details, visit the PlayStation.Blog.

New Eye of Judgment patch fixes Season 2 issues

By the time you read this the new Eye of Judgment patch version 2.01 will be available to download. Don't get too excited, though. This isn't anything too special. Just a few bug fixes and card modifications for issues brought on by the release of Season 2. Among these bug fixes are improvements to the deck builder, battle arena and online mode. This includes a new system which will award points to players whose opponents disconnect from ranked duels. For the full list of bug fixes and card text changes, be sure to check out the PlayStation Blog post. That's what it's there for.

Check out the new Eye of Judgment theme decks

While Europe has had Set 2 of Eye of Judgment for a little while now, the American release isn't until April 28th. A new post on the PlayStation.Blog gives a preview of the theme decks found in Set 2. Select cards from each of the decks is laid out in the blog post, along with a bit of a tactics blurb. Interesting stuff for fans of the game.

The patch, which enables the cards in Set 2 to be used in Eye of Judgment is available right now on the European PSN Store for £6.99/€9.99. It should be up "soon" on the American store. Hopefully this Thursday, then.

Deal of the Day: Eye of Judgment set for $43

Do you remember that last month we had a Deal of the Day where Eye of Judgment was going for only $47? Well, the game just got cheaper by another four smackeroos. At $43, the Eye of Judgment set is a really good deal, considering it's a total savings of 27 greenbacks.

We're assuming that this continually lowered price has something to do with the upcoming Set 2 cards releasing next week. The lowered price probably is meant to rope in new gamers so they can spend their savings on Set 2 cards.

It's a good strategy actually as the original $70 just seemed way too expensive after factoring in the need to buy booster packs, expansions, etc, etc. $43 seems like a good price point to take advantage of if you've been meaning to get into Eye of Judgment.

Eye of Judgment Set 2 available on April 28

PlayStation.Blog is confirming that the Eye of Judgment Set 2 cards will be ready in North America by April 28. This is great news for those of you who were eagerly waiting for a new release date announcement. It's nice to hear that the cards haven't been delayed that long for North America. Set 2 was already released worldwide on March 27.
