Metal Gear Online gets '!' worthy bikini pack
Konami has a whole week of "surprises" lined up for the one-year anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots' release. So, surprise: Metal Gear Online has received an unlikely update in the form of bikini-clad babes. Rather than draw form the series' pool of female characters, the pack lets players roll their own originals, complete with sultry -- even scandalous! -- "taunts."
The DLC is free for players who already have the GENE expansion pack purchased and installed. No amount of money will get your dignity back after friends catch you testing the ladies' over-the-top "jiggle simulation." (Or simply watching the video of others doing it after the break.)

Metal Gear Online 'Race Mission' detailed, 'Patriot' perk sounds like a cheat

Not forgotten in today's update was word of the Patriot system, which -- at least at first -- sounds like a cool reward for the game's best players. Basically, the game will select a random set of top players each week as "Patriots," granting them access to a Patriot .56mm "hand rifle" ... which has infinite ammo and doesn't require reloading. Let's see: MGO's best players with infinite ammo and no need to reload. Sounds fair, right? We'll find out how it works out starting May 26.
Metal Gear Online gets 'Race Mission' update, promises more for anniversary
We're just about a month away from the one year anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 4's release. In spite of a cumbersome Konami ID system, the game's packaged Metal Gear Online mode has seen a number of add-ons, with no end in sight. On May 12th, MGO players will be able to enjoy a new game mode, "Race Mission," which will be available to "all players, not just those who have purchased SCENE." In this mode, the two teams must protect a certain target while passing through various checkpoints.
It looks as though some major updates are still in the works for the Metal Gear universe. Konami's Brandon Laurino teased PlayStation.Blog readers, stating that the team still has "even more awesome stuff" to celebrate the game's one year anniversary with. What could this entail? We'll let you cook up some conspiracy theories as we count down to June.

Metal Gear Online's Scene expansion adds new skills and emblems
Metal Gear Online's Scene expansion will be available tomorrow for $10. It'll include content such as new maps, characters and customizable parts. In addition to all that, Konami has revealed today that Scene also includes two new elite emblems and three upgradable skills. The Fighting Fish emblem is earned by "playing a series of Deathmatches," while the Arctic Skua emblem is earned by "playing a series of Solo Capture missions." Unlock these two and get a free in-game shirt for your troubles.
Check out the emblems and some new screenshots in our gallery. Also, details on the three new skills: CQC EX, Toughness and Charm can be found after the break.

Metal Gear Online makes a SCENE (expansion) March 17

Konami has revealed -- via the PlayStation Blog -- that Metal Gear Online's latest expansion, "SCENE," will be available in North America beginning March 17. (Hold on, we'll type louder so you can hear us over the cricket sounds.) Alright. So, the pack will be available via PSN and Konami's own online shop for $9.99; with the previous "MEME" expansion for $14.99; or as part of the full add-on pack -- "MEME," "GENE" and "SCENE" -- for $17.99.
The expansion, which adds MGS4 characters to the mix along with new maps and a "Solo Capture" mode, can be pre-ordered via Konami's e-store, which is offering an exclusive in-game cardboard box headgear (sure not to get you noticed) for those who make the early comittment. Of course, you get a whole bunch'a wacky stuff just for buying the pack. Clown paint, anyone? Anyone? Crickets?

Metal Gear Online 'Scene Expansion' adds playable Raiden, Vamp
It's about time that Metal Gear Online got back on the scene with a brand-new expansion pack. As revealed by Famitsu, this third DLC pack from Konami, titled "Scene," brings more Metal Gear Solid 4 characters and new map locales into the online battlefield. Both Vamp and Raiden will be added to the playable roster in this expansion, and three new territories are available to explore: "Hazard House" (a countryside manor), "Outer Outlet" (a shopping arcade) and "Revaged [sic] Riverfront" (a riverside town).
Though these first details currently only pertain to a Japanese release, we expect Scene to hit worldwide just like the Gene and Meme expansions that came before it. There are only two questions left that need answering: When should we expect Scene to arrive .... and what new word that rhymes with "spleen" will Konami use for the next expansion?
[Update: Konami just sent out a press release stating that the Scene expansion will be available in North America by March. Those who pre-order the pack off Konami's shop one week ahead of release will get complimentary "cardboard man" headgear. We've also got new screen shots and some new details on the maps after the break.]

'Bomb Mission' to land on Metal Gear Online
"Come in, Colonel. This is Snake."
"Read you loud and clear, Snake. Did you need me to tell you how to climb a ladder?"
"I KNOW HOW TO ... forget it. I hear there's a new mission available."
"That's right. Top secret, black ops stuff. It's an OSWP MGO GTFO mission, lemming priority."
"L -- lemming?! Colonel, what aren't you telling me?"
"I'm not not telling you nothing, Snake, so relax. Konami is releasing a free mode for Metal Gear Online on January 27th. It's called Bomb Mission."
"Bomb Mission, huh? What is it that I'm infiltrating? Haze?"
"..."
"That's like a joke."
"Be serious! This isn't single-player DLC, Snake! This is a mode for the online part of your game, where one team aims to detonate bombs before the allotted time runs out, while the opposing group attempts to freeze the bombs with coolant spray. Just like the Big Shell mission."
"What do you mean, 'online mode?!' Is this one of those crazy plot twists!?"
"I'm afraid it's much worse than that. It's an asinine blog post that obfuscates a mundane news item by inserting popular characters and tedious humor into a contrived, vaguely informative situation."
"Dammit, Colonel! This is worse than that time we found out we were living inside a computer!"

Bomb Mission coming to Metal Gear Online
Metal Gear Online will getting a brand new (free) mode. Bomb Mission will be available to all MGO players on January 27th. In this new mode, two teams go head-to-head. The offensive team will attempt to detonate a bomb at a targeted location, protecting the bomb until it detonates. The defending team must protect its stronghold and prevent bombs from exploding by using a special coolant.
We're not sure how many people still play MGO, but it's great to see Konami offer brand new content at a price we all can approve of.

MGO update version 1.20 contains new modes and more

Update version 1.20 has hit Metal Gear Online. Not only does it bring all the new characters and maps of the MEME expansion, the update will have some freebies. Notable changes include the a "headshots invalid lobby" which will disable all one-hit KOs from headshots, an "Interval" rule that allows for games that won't influence your online stats and a "Stealth Deathmatch" mode where all players are equipped with Stealth Camouflage. For all the details, take a gander at the full list of updates, after the jump.

Metal Gear Online's MEME hitting the scene on Nov. 25

Joining the battlefield (as seen in three new maps) are Mei Ling and perpetual source of mean, Liquid Ocelot. We look forward to shooting him in the, uh ... spleen?
What a stupid, stupid post.
Metal Gear Online: MEME Expansion available this week

The MEME Expansion also includes three new maps: Silo Sunset, Forest Firefight and Winter Warehouse. Those that don't buy the expansion will see new optional rules, such as the "No Headshot" setting, which disables one-hit KOs from head shots. A new "Interval" mode allows players to practice online with other players, with no effect on their online stats.
The GENE Expansion will be playable next week, on November 25th. However, European gamers will be able to pre-purchase the expansion tomorrow for 7.99 Euro. Update: Americans will be able to get the pack individually for $9.99, or bundled with the MEME Expansion for $14.99.

Metal Gear Online: 1 million soldiers ask, 'La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo?'

We can't help but read this news as disappointing for Konami (we already know Kojima's unhappy). Metal Gear Solid 4 -- that is, the single player component of MGO -- shipped 3 million worldwide at launch and continues to sell.
The publisher has announced a second expansions, MEME, due out later this year. A GENE/MEME bundle of both expansions will be available this "holiday season" for $14.99. Not included in the expansions: A Konami ID disintegration device.
Konami launches 'Commemorative Campaign' for MGO
In honor of reaching a count of one million members worldwide for Metal Gear Online, Konami plans to celebrate and treat MGO players to an early Thanksgiving. Starting November 25 and running until December 9, Konami is awarding all MGO players with 10,000 reward points which they can use in the in-game online shop. Just log into MGO during the redemption period, and you'll get the points.
Also, those who avail of the free 10,000 points may be one of the 30 lucky people to receive an additional 100,000 reward points. 10 people from each region (Japan, North America, Europe) will be selected on December 16, after the main Commemorative Campaign ends. If that's not enough, then there's always the special Gene/Meme bundle pack to grab at $14.99. This dual expansion bundle will be available sometime during the "holiday season."
