Xbox 360 Fancast 152 -- Drinking with Strangers [update]

Update: Oh, incidentally, here's the Sonic Cycle image we discussed. After the break, you can also see Casey's Dropbear defense solution.

This week on the Xbox 360 Fancast, we talk about one man's quest to find a copy of the original Mass Effect, what it takes to get into the First Annual Joystiq Blueberry Muffin Tops Breakfast and, just for fun, what Xav thinks of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It is, as always, a laugh and a half. Download the latest episode for all this and more. Also, don't forget that it's okay to drink with strangers, just remember to BYOB*.

*This is a joke.

Xbox 360 Fancast 151 -- Massively Affected

We're short one man on the Fancast this week, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about Mass Effect 2. So, expect to hear plenty of (spoiler free) discussion on that, as well as some new fan mail and another birthday shout out. As an added bonus, we get the first fan mail from one of our own hosts. Also, be sure to stick around for the outtakes. Something epic just may be in the offing.

Slingbox DVR streaming due for PS3, says Sling Media VP

Our buddy Leo LaPorte interviewed Jay Tannenbaum of Sling Media the other week on his Tech Guy Labs podcast live at CES, and reader Jason spotted a little bit of news that will be of interest to PS3 owners. The interview starts at about 33 minutes into episode 629, and in his chat with Leo at 33:35, Tannenbaum mentions that the Slingbox software allows you to stream DVR content to anywhere in the world, including "your phone, your laptop, and soon to even the PlayS -- uh, PS3." Leo responds the same way we would, with an incredulous, "Really?" And Tannenbaum answers in the affirmative.

So, wow, there you go. Presumably, you'll still need a Slingbox to actually sling the media out to your console, and obviously there's no word yet of how the software would be delivered to the PS3 (on a disk like the Netflix app, or via a purchased program like the $30 iPhone app), but eventually you'll be able to watch your Slingbox media, even in 1080i, as Tannenbaum says later in the interview, on your PlayStation 3. Interested?

Update: DustoMan in our comments says that Tannenbaum meant streaming Slingbox through the PS3's browser, as shown in these photos at CES. Still works, we guess, but not quite as groovy.

Xbox 360 Fancast 150 -- Of Centaurs and Male Bayonettas

This is it folks. 150 episodes of the Xbox 360 Fancast are now in the can, and that's not counting the many special episodes we recorded for events like E3 or the X3F TV video podcasts like XBLA in Brief. That's a lot of episodes. To celebrate, we brought on one of our biggest fans, a man who also happens to be responsible for our fantastic podcast artwork. That's right, it's none other than Chris Majewski, better known to Xbox Live as Magic Whiskey.

As it happens, he's also responsible for some horrifying depictions of X3F's Richard and Alexander, both of which you can view after the break. We're not sure if they're safe for work or not, honestly. You'll just have to make that decision on your own.

Xbox 360 Fancast 149 -- Yo So Offensive

Welcome to a shiny new episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. This week, we talk about Bayonetta, the third party troubles of the Wii and how Natal might alleviate them. We also discuss just how the word "Yo" might be considered offensive by the Xbox Live team. Also, as you may have noticed, our podcast art has been updated to include our latest addition, Mr. Dave Hinkle. The art was once again created by friend of the Fancast, Chris Majewski. Be sure to check out some of his other work right here (and commission some work from him at Commissions [dawt] CSMajewski [att] yahoo [dawt] com).

Xbox 360 Fancast 148 -- Where is the Excitement?

We tried to get excited about Microsoft's CES 2010 announcements. We really did. Just listen to the latest Xbox 360 Fancast to find out how hard we tried. We also talk -- at great length -- about Bayonetta and its more ... naughty aspects. At one point, a hairy disco ball is mentioned. Give it a listen, and you'll also get a fresh installment of fanmail. Enjoy.

Greenberg: Crackdown 2 coming first half of 2010

On Major Nelson's weekly podcast -- with a host left laughing and teary-eyed due to the Xbox head's dental-related lisp -- Aaron Greenberg did some NPD boasting before ruminating on the first half of 2010. After pointing out Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Alan Wake, he confirmed Crackdown 2 as part of Microsoft's list of "triple-A, exclusive" titles heading to the Xbox 360 during "the first half of the year."

"Those are just the exclusives, that doesn't include Final Fantasy ... there's no way we had a first half of the year like that last year," Greenberg added. The back end of the upcoming year is no slouch either in his eyes, with Halo Reach and Fable 3 said to be on schedule for launch in the Fall. Considering the first Crackdown's February release date, we're hoping for a similarly timed release of the sequel (just in time for its third birthday!). We've followed up with Greenberg and will update this post if we hear more.

Xbox 360 Fancast 146 -- Tempting Fate

It's unclear just how it happened, but this week's Fancast clocks in at almost two hours. It took a long time. Time that we could have spent writing about games. But, you demand podcast goodness and we must oblige, so prepare for a mountain of emails about underage gaming, the Japanese game industry, delicious dessert islands and more. We also take some time to discuss the NPD numbers and, of course, Starship Troopers.

Xbox 360 Fancast 145 -- Self-indulgent

The Xbox 360 Fancast is back from our Turkey Day Vay-cay, and now it's time for some good, old-fashioned talkin' about games. We've got a ton of news to go over and lots of fanmail too. On top of that, we revisit the topic of Left 4 Dead 2's difficulty level. As if that weren't enough, hear us rant and rave about the movies that defined a generation. Download it, listen to it and make good life choices.

Halo: Reach premiere at VGAs will be actual gameplay, says Keighley

To clear up any misconceptions with "the kids on Twitter," Spike Video Game Awards host Geoff Keighley took to Major Nelson's podcast this weekend and explained that the Halo: Reach trailer on next week's show will be "actual gameplay." That's right, folks: none of that live-action or CG mumbo jumbo. "You'll get a first glimpse at the world of Reach," Keighley told the Major during this week's show. "I think it's going to be the biggest game next year by far."

When addressing the contents of the trailer -- something Keighley claimed to have not seen just yet -- he noted that he thinks people will be shocked by the direction than Bungie is taking, calling it a "huge leap forward." So, Mr. Keighley, it could be said that the studio is reaching new ground then?

... Hello? Where are you going?!

Xbox 360 Fancast: Holiday greetings from Dropbear

So, there isn't a full episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast this week. We're sorry. We were just so busy ingesting turkey over the weekend that we decided to take a little break. Fear not though, we put together a special little message just for you. As a special bonus, our good friend Dropbear says hello. See you next week!

Episode five of A LIfe Well Wasted explores 'Help'

As we diligently promised so many months ago, we're writing another post with the intention of informing you that Robert Ashley's pseudo-monthly gaming podcast, A Life Well Wasted, has just released a new episode. Titled "Help," Ashley's fifth full show profiles a "successful" pinball maker, talks to a man who pledged to give up gaming of all types for one year (and how he lived to tell the tale), and discusses Desert Bus for Hope with the yearly charity event's creators.

We'd normally suggest you run over and grab an Olly Moss poster for the episode to support future productions, but it turns out that all 200 of them already got snatched up. If you've yet to check out the episode, head over to the website and have a listen.

Xbox 360 Fancast 144 -- Color Me Sadd

It's Fancast time once again, and this week we spend quite a bit of time on Left 4 Dead 2, which seems to be stirring up some contention on the ol' Joystiq. We also discuss under age gaming and our favorite retro titles. Listen intently as Richard rattles off one obscure game after the next. As if that weren't enough, witness the revival of Oklahoma's greatest contribution to mankind, Color Me Badd!

Xbox 360 Fancast 143 -- Modern Podfare

Yep, you guessed it, this week is about Modern Warfare 2. We throw some news in there, and even squeeze in one fan mail after the break, but the bulk is Modern Warfare 2. In the first half of the show, we break down our impressions of the game. In the second half, we tackle the controversial "No Russian" mission, which you may have heard about.

And yes, before you ask, there are dropbears. Our faithful readers have kept us apprised of the growing dropbear menace, providing us with crucial evidence, which you can find after the break.

Xbox 360 Fancast 142 -- ODSB

We have got an absolute doozy of a show for you this week folks. Not only is it super long -- clocking in at nearly two hours -- but we invited Mr. Dave Hinkle to join in the shenanigans once again. With Xav back on the show, that's like four times the mayhem ... or something. We also talk about the greatest threat mankind has ever faced: The ODSB. What's an ODSB, you ask? You'll have to listen to find out.

Also, shout out to Menno B, who brought our attention to the meticulously crafted, custom Dropbear Mazda Protege in Forza Motorsport 3. Check out another image of it right here on the X3F Facebook group (you should join!). Be sure to drop us a line if you create or find any X3F-themed goodies out there!
