Disgaea 3 patch adds Trophies and Home support

Disgaea 3 has been updated in Japan with two new features: Trophies and PlayStation Home support. The two go hand in hand as well. Unlocking a Trophy in the game will also earn you a reward in Home: a Prinny trophy you can place in your virtual abode.

Of course, getting the Trophies won't be very easy. Siliconera reveals some details on what you must do: "One trophy is awarded after dealing over 10 billion damage and another is given after a Counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-attack." Excuse me?

We're hoping English language versions of Disgaea 3 will also receive this patch. It's always nice to see developers update their games to take advantage of all the new features added to the PS3 post-release.

Cool Stuff for Monday (aka the post-Valentine's Edition)

Monday is totally the new Sunday. Okay, we're lying. Valentine's Day got the best of this blogger, and now this feature comes in one day late. (But hey, it's a holiday today, here in the States.) We start this feature with a bloody, "homicide" themed modded PS3 from Jerry Thampan. Check out more pics here. [Thanks, Roland!]

Prinny gets premium DLC in Japan

PSP has been following in the footsteps of its PS3 big brother for quite some time now. The latest trend it's starting to pick up? DLC. Owners of the PS3 have become accustomed to purchasing post-release content through the PlayStation Store, and it appears PSP owners may follow suit.

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? will feature a brand new downloadable level featuring cameos from another Nippon Ichi game, Phantom Brave. "Phantom Isle & Marona" is downloadable on the Japanese PlayStation Store for 300 yen ($3.30). See the video after the break.

Although Prinny hasn't released in the US yet (it's coming out February 17th), we're certain NIS America will follow suit and charge for these extras. It'll be interesting to see how PSP owners respond -- will they be as eager to pay for DLC as PS3 owners?

NIS details three Prinny game premium box sets

When Prinny: Can I really be the Hero? was released in Japan last November, we were left wondering whether we'd see any of the cool swag from Japan come our way. Surprisingly, all those goodies are being released in North America alongside the game's NA debut on February 17. In fact, there will be multiple specialty Premium Box sets commemorating the release. Here are the three sets:

Premium Box Set [$39.99]:
  • Game
  • Soundtrack
  • Comic from Penny Arcade
Hero to the Rescue Set [$64.99]
  • Premium Box contents
  • Red Scarf Prinny plushie
  • Prinny PSP Pouch
Ultra Dessert Set [$69.99]:
  • Premium Box contents
  • Red Scarf Prinny plushie
  • Prinny PSP Pouch
  • Disgaea Graphic Novel
The final and most expensive set, the Ultra Dessert one, is pictured above. Planning to pick up the game? Then you better decide which set suits your tastes more. You can pre-order or check out more at NIS' official store, RosenQueen.

Who doesn't want an overacted Prinny trailer?

Some cheese can be good. Especially on a cracker. However, the cheese offered by this Prinny trailer is of a different, slightly nuttier variety. The fine folks at NIS are bringing Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero over to the States, and they're bringing it in the usual over-the-top Disgaea style. Somehow, NIS is not only able to get away with terrible voice acting, but manages to turn it into an art. Check out the video, after the break.

Prinny: Is it okay to show off the first level of gameplay?

We're pretty psyched for the upcoming Prinny game. It looks gorgeous, and maintains the Disgaea charm we all love. Thankfully, our friends at PSP GadgetZ have recorded footage of the game in action. Enjoy the energetic, upbeat music and classic 2D platforming action ... after the break. Then, remember the game is coming to America in February.

Nippon Ichi goes all out with the swag for Prinny launch

Nippon Ichi is really going all out for the launch of Prinny: Can I really be the Hero?. Purchasers in Japan can get free Etna/Prinny pins (pictured) if they buy the game anytime between the November 20 launch and January 11, 2009. But that's not all, the company is looking to really cash-in with adorable Prinny plushies and a PSP traveling case.

There are three Prinny plushies; the red muffler Prinny and Lahar-like Prinny both go for ¥1,890 ($19.54) each, but the pink Prinny is going for ¥2,980 ($30.81). The traveling case is blue with an embossed Prinny on the cover; fetch one for ¥1,785 ($18.40). Check out the pics at Famitsu. Hopefully all these goodies will make their way over here, or else ... we'll have to publish a story called North American Gamers: Can we really have all the swag Japan gets? Don't make us do it.

Prinny: Can I Have an English Language Trailer?

Yes you can, Prinny. You can have your own English-language trailer, which sets the tone for your ridiculous adventure. Remember, folks: Prinny's new sidescrolling game comes to the US next February.

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? coming to the US in February

The awesomely-named Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? is coming to the States this February, according to Siliconera. The gorgeous 2D platformer features Disgaea's oft-pathetic mascot, Prinny, in a new adventure which is said to be "tough as nails." Uh-oh. For those of you that want some Contra-like bad memories, you may want to try the Hell Mode, which will kill your character in just one hit. Yay?

Prinny screens show new enemies and vehicles

Gpara has a ton of new screenshots from Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? They show Prinny fighting various enemies; such as the Mothman, archers and ninjas. A crab-like vehicle was also spotted. Another fact revealed was that some stages will contain hidden records, an item which allows you to change the background music of that level. Take a look at all the screenshots here.

Prinny: Is it okay to star in some video footage?

For those of you without Japanese PLAYSTATION Network accounts, it'll be pretty much impossible to play the current Prinny demo. Thankfully, our friends at PSP GadgetZ have recorded footage of the demo in action. Enjoy the energetic, upbeat music and classic 2D platforming action ... after the break.

PSP Fanboy hands-on: Prinny: Is It Okay If I am the Main Character?

Disgaea fans probably jumped in excitement upon hearing the news that Prinnies would be getting their own game for PSP. Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? is the aptly cute pseudo-2D side-scroller which is also being released in North America. While fans may be squealing in delight over that, here's one more tidbit that's going to make your day: you can play the game now off a demo on the Japanese PS Store. If you can't download it or just plain old stuck at work and can't get to it until you're at home, then we're providing our very own impressions for your convenience.

Getting right into it, the demo was a short, one-level adventure taking us through scenery we've seen in screenshots previously (namely the one posted above). As you can see, the environmental objects are 3D models and there will be times when certain actions will cause the camera to shift into this 3D perspective; however, the game is mostly in the 2D perspective, side-scrolling from left to right. Before you start the level you'll be given two optional difficulties: either a "one-hit you're dead" game or a "three-hit chance." The number of hits you can take will be displayed by icons placed in the upper left corner of the screen. If you die, you'll use up a life point which are all displayed in the bottom left.

A plethora of Disgaea spinoff screenshots featuring Prinny

Want more Prinny action? There are almost 65 screenshots from Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? over at Game Watch right now, just waiting for you to check them out. Most of the screenshots explain the mechanics of the game: dashing, jumping, throwing, and more. Then there are fancier moves like a hip attack, cutting and finally, the Prinny blast.

This platformer will be headed to Japan at end of November, but a demo will be landing the Japanese PS Store on September 29th. No release info yet for anywhere else in the world. Check the rest of the screenshots of our favorite tormented souls in action here.

Disgaea's the limit: Prinny-starring platformer dated for Japan

Look, we honestly don't care what you think about the Disgaea franchise and its peculiar, thoroughly unhinged take on role playing. All we know is that if the description of its upcoming spin-off -- a side-scrolling platformer starring a tenacious, twirling penguin who, by the way, occasionally pilots an enormous tank -- doesn't do anything for you, then we'd like to ask you to leave. Leave the internet.

The internet is also where you'll find the game's official website, along with word that Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? is due to arrive on Japanese PSPs on November 20th. If you have a "friend" with a Japanese PlayStation Store account, you'll also want to check out the demo as of September 29th.

Wanna know more about Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? The new Disgaea series spin-off will be a side-scrolling action title featuring the exploding penguins, and here's the story: Etna had her favorite candies stolen; you are the poor Prinny assigned to look for them, or deal with a fate worse than death. Other highlights include an extreme difficulty level, "200% better pixel graphics," gameplay data exchange and a promise of new maps and bosses in the form DLC in the future.

The official site has also been updated, with information on the controls of the game, the release date, as well as a date for the demo -- the full game will arrive on November 20th for 5,229 yen (including tax) while the demo will arrive on the Japanese PS Store on 9/29. We got the trailer above and some screenshots in the gallery below, so check them out!
