King of iPhone Fist: Pocket Gamer says Namco releasing iPhone Tekken game soon

Tekken 6 for PSP
Street Fighter IV isn't the only fighting game to be shoehorned awkwardly into the iPhone. According to Pocket Gamer, an anonymous Namco staffer has confirmed that a Tekken game is on the way to the platform -- a platform that, we feel we should remind you, lacks not only a high-quality arcade-style joystick, but any mechanical controls at all. Last year, Namco's Jonathan Kromrey mentioned that the company was considering porting its fighting games onto the iPhone, and it would appear that nobody successfully dissuaded the publisher.

No details were given about the game, except that its development is near completion. We'd say Soul Calibur is next on the list, but Gameloft kind of already did that.

Marvel at the Tekken movie's amazing outfits

Two words, folks: Flame pants. Nothing says "iron fist" quite like Jin Kazama's classy couture, and these latest shots from the upcoming Tekken film deliver in spades. Be assured, this ain't no fan-made hullabaloo -- we can clearly see someone spent at least a couple hundred bucks making this thing. The film hits Japanese viewers on March 20 and presumably arrives on US shores in the not too distant future. But for now, why not get started on piecing together your Eddy cosplay? How could you resist those sweet contrasting colors!

Police suspect suicide in death of Japanese voice actor

Japanese voice actor Daisuke Gōri (real name: Yoshio Nagahori) passed away under somewhat bizarre circumstances in Tokyo this weekend -- he was found lying on his stomach in the streets of Nakano ward, bleeding from the wrist, with both a sharp weapon and his will lying nearby. Police are investigating the death as a suicide, though they haven't confirmed that ruling yet.

Gōri had an extensive resume as a voice actor in both animation and video games, and is probably known best as the Japanese voices for both Tekken's Heihachi Mishima and Dead or Alive's Bass Armstrong. In Japan, he was renowned for doing voices for the Dragon Ball Z and Kinnikuman series. He was 57.

Tekken: The Movie: The Trailer: The Post

We live in a world that's so full of daily tragedy and unpredictable horror that when something happens exactly the way we thought it would, we find reason to celebrate. Even if it's a bad thing, it's an inspiring reminder that even in a universe of chaos there are beautiful, comforting pockets of stability.

There's a trailer for the live action Tekken movie after the break, and it does not in any way look like a good movie. Now, hit your knees and thank the stars.

Tekken 6 patch adding online co-op to Scenario Campaign

Good news if you're sick of playing Tekken 6 online purely for the purpose of beating up on your friends -- come January 18, you can beat up on computer-controlled opponents together instead, thanks to an incoming patch. The title update for PS3 and Xbox 360 will add online co-op to the Scenario Campaign of the game, along with voice chat. (You know, for working out those incredibly deep strategies -- "I'll punch the guy on the left!")

Mokujin's AI has also been tweaked for online versus play, causing his fighting style to change every round. He won't voice chat with you, though. Sorry.

Tekken movie poster teased on official Japanese site

Film blog Twitch has spotted the teaser poster for the upcoming Tekken movie on the official Warner Bros. Japan site for the film. We don't want to be overly cynical, but we've had our hearts broken so many times before that it's hard to get excited for any video game-based films -- no matter how spot-on Wushu martial artist Jon Foo looks as Tekken's Jin Kazama.

You know what else we're not fans of? The complete lack of Panda in the teaser poster (check it out after the break). We don't care if the character doesn't appear in the series until the third game, if we don't see an upright Panda punching someone in the face, there's no telling how upset we'll be.

Tekken 6 arcade stick bundles on sale for $78

Have you been hoping, nay, dreaming of snagging one of the Tekken 6 arcade stick bundles but have been hesitant to plunk down the $150 asking price? This post is for you then, as Amazon has positively slashed the price of the bundle on both PS3 and 360 version, knocking them down to a paltry $78. Seventy-eight bones! That's only $18 bucks more than your average game and it includes the Tekken 6 Hori arcade stick to boot.

If you, or the digital pugilist in your life, haven't picked this up yet, it probably won't get much cheaper than this.

Tekken 6 update launches Nov. 26, addresses online issues

A free update, launching on November 26, hopes to end the woes Tekken 6 players have encountered in the online King of Iron Fists Tournament. The update should improve connectivity between players and will add selectable search priorities for ranked matches.

Namco also aims to improve the responsiveness of button input and will add a cancel option for the first few seconds of a match should you disapprove of your opponent's signal strength. Or, in our case, should you find they're using a super cheap character like Devil Jin. Stop it!

Tekken 6 online patch in the works, says Namco

Those of you taking your King of the Iron Fist Tournament fighters to the internet have been experiencing some major issues, notably: when trying to compete online in any sort of meaningful way, you're met with acute, game-ending connectivity issues. Namco recognized that today and issued a response, stating, "To improve the online game experience for players ... Namco Bandai games is developing a downloadable update which will be available as soon as it has passed rigorous testing procedures."

Unfortunately, no date for the patch has been given, though the publisher does add, "This is separate from the online co-op Scenario Campaign mode update." We've pestered Namco for more details on exactly what the patch will aim to fix and when we might hear more about it but, until that time, know this: something is being fixed at some point.

Rumor: Tekken 6 PSP adds Story modes for Lars and Alisa

There may be extra incentive to check out the PSP version of Tekken 6, as Siliconera reports the handheld port will feature story modes for newcomers Lars and Alisa. The news originally fought its way onto the net via online retailer Rakuten, but the page has since been pulled, with no new listing surfacing. The PSP port will also apparently replace the console version's Scenario Mode with Gold Rush Mode, where each fight earns the player money to customize their character.

Many of you may have noticed the game failed to meet its October 27 release date, just as we thought it would -- several retailers now peg down the US release for November 29, while it looks like Japan will have to wait until January 14, 2010.

Namco announces 2.5 million shipped copies of Tekken 6

Namco Bandai sent out a press release today boasting that it has shipped over 2.5 million copies of Tekken 6 worldwide. Now, we don't want to tell Namco how to do its job, but these shipment numbers tend to be more impressive when you give the game a week or so in stores, so we can more readily infer a connection between shipped copies and sold copies.

The portion of those 2.5 million earmarked for Europe, for example, just got there today, and it's only been in stores for around two days in North America. All we know based on this is that Namco expects to sell a ton of copies, not that it is selling a ton. Although we're sure it will.

Maybe that's the idea -- to build excitement about Tekken 6 by showing how confident the publisher is. To print up 2.5 million of the things (some of which come in totally huge boxes), Namco must really believe it's on to something!

Prepare for an onslaught of Tekken 6 PSP media

While some of us still think there's no way that Tekken 6 for the PSP will release alongside its console counterparts, Namco is sticking to its guns on the October 27 release. And so the publisher has unleashed an alarming amount of media for the PSP port, including two new trailers that show off the first in-game footage and a host of new screens. Hit up the gallery below for the screens and head past the break for the second trailer.

Oh, and yes, Alisa totally took off her head and smacked Eddy with it. You didn't imagine that part.

Tekken 6 trailer doles out story, Scenario Mode, no sense

We're just going to lay it down right here: We have no idea what's going on in this Tekken 6 trailer from GamesCom. There's something about a (possibly evil) corporation and there's some other company, and one of them declares war on the world. Somehow, this results in a fighting tournament ... we think. There's also a bear-God-thing, a dragon, a mech and ... was that a panda? (At least we've been able to pinpoint the Scenario Mode, a 3D beat-em-up of sorts, spliced into the footage. See it?)

After you've scratched your head bald puzzling over the trailer above, check out some new screens in the gallery below:

Take a timeout to ogle Hori's Tekken 6 arcade sticks

At $150 -- including a copy of Tekken 6, mind you -- Hori's upcoming arcade sticks for the fighter's sixth iteration look to be a pretty decent deal for those of you still interested in picking up a fighting stick. Coming straight out of Namco's conference at GamesCom, we were given an opportunity to check out the Tekken 6 arcade stick. Lucky you, we've also snapped a few pics and added them to the gallery you see below. Let the ogling begin!

A metric ton of Tekken 6 media

Listen, we were going to try and come up with a clever headline for this post ("Tekken 6 videos pull no punches!" or "PETA to protest video featuring brutal Jaguar-Man violence" were a few notable options) but we've decided to simply call it what it is: A hell of a lot of content from Namco's upcoming brawler. Like, a whole lot. Like, three brief gameplay videos (two of which are posted after the break) and a gallery of 15 new screenshots.

Now that we think about it, we kinda wish we would have gone with that PETA headline. Oh well! Nothing we can do about it now. This post is already out there, ready for your consumption. We'll try to remember to use it for our next Tekken 6 media dump.
