XSEED publishing Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga this summer

We must admit, we were curious about the state of the Marvelous/XSEED relationship when we found out that Ignition had grabbed the publishing rights for Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The two companies seem to be doing okay, though, because XSEED just announced that it will publish Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga for the Wii in North America this summer. Rising Star previously announced it will handle European publishing.

This will be the first console entry for the formerly PSP-exclusive series, and adds two-player online coop to the series' action-RPG gameplay. Unlike the PSP games, this version lacks separate battle screens, with real-time battles taking place on the main world map.

Valhalla Knights 2: Battle Stance announced

Were you unsatisfied with Valhalla Knights 2? Well, it sure seems like its publisher Marvelous was, for the game is getting a complete makeover and repackaging. Newly dubbed as Valhalla Knights 2: Battle Stance, the K2 developed RPG is getting an all-new battle system and control scheme, said to give it more Monster Hunter-like action.

Further MH emulation includes the reduction of six party members down to four (we also wouldn't be surprised if this meant a 4-player ad hoc mode was in the works too ... just saying). Further tweaks and changes are: new quests, items and the addition of teleportation points called Gate Crystals. So far, Battle Stance has been announced only in Japan. Check out the official website for more.

Rising Star dates: European release dates for Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, more

Last year, Rising Star Games announced European release plans for a ton of games, including Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, all wrapped in a vague "2009-2010" period. Rising Star just sent out a new list, featuring much more specific information. Eldar Saga, an action RPG with online co-op(!), will be released in Europe this November. Nobody has said anything about a North American release, but we wouldn't be surprised to see either Atlus or the even more obvious XSEED/Marvelous team to pick it up.

Other European release dates of note: Steal Princess in May, Luminous Arc 2 in October, and, uh, an Angel Cat Sugar game in October.

Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga announced for Wii

The latest issue of Japanese gaming supermag, Famitsu, had a welcome surprise for fans of Nintendo's three-DVD-wide home console -- the announcement of Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga for the Wii. Gamekyo originally posted scans of the article announcing the title, translating a few key features of the former PSP series' Wii-imagining -- chief among these being an online co-op mode using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. While the PSP version of Valhalla Knights received middling reviews, we remain, as ever, cautiously optimistic about any RPG offerings for the Wii -- though considering the game is about 70 percent complete and not due out in Japan until next year, it may be a while before we get our hands on it.

Marvelous reveals Valhalla Knights for Wii

Today is a big day for Wii gamers. Aside from a new Final Fantasy and a Klonoa remake, we're now getting a new Valhalla Knights title in Valhalla Knights: Eldgar Saga, according to the latest issue of Famitsu. The best part? It has online co-op!

Valhalla Knights was previously a PSP-only franchise, but this Wii version looks to bring over a lot of the key aspects of those games, including 60 quests, real-time combat and heavy character customization. The magazine article says the game is about 70% complete and will release in Japan sometime next year.

Valhalla Knights 2: versus mode video

Valhalla Knights 2 comes out in stores this week -- meaning this video is one of the last things you'll see before making your choice. To buy or not to buy? You can judge for yourself. Take a peek at this multiplayer video and see if the gameplay and graphics are up to your demanding standards.

Valhalla Knights 2 may be unusually long

Most handheld games are relatively short (good example: God of War: Chains of Olympus). But, XSEED's not going to have any of that. Their upcoming PSP-exclusive RPG, Valhalla Knight 2, is going to be almost-obnoxiously long. According to Kotaku, the game will clock in at least 60 hours to complete, and up to 135 hours to "fully complete it." We don't know what they're putting in this game, but we hope it's compelling enough to warrant such an unusually lengthy play time.

[Thanks, Kyle P.!]

Valhalla Knights 2: more of the same

It's difficult to truly grasp the feel of an RPG in an environment like E3. There's just too much hustle and bustle, and there simply isn't enough time to get into the game. Perhaps we need more time with Valhalla Knights 2, but in our brief time with the title, it really felt like "more of the same." For RPG-starved PSP fans, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, the dated visuals and presentation certainly don't inspire.

There is some hope, though. The trailer shows that there is an experienced staff working on this sequel. The original story is written by the scenario writer of Final Fantasy XII, Miwa Shoda. There's also new classes, monsters and co-operative play over Ad-Hoc. There are a lot of features to highlight -- but will that be enough to stand out in a library of other PSP RPGs?

The stunning vistas of Valhalla Knights concept art

PSP is getting yet another exclusive RPG in the form of Valhalla Knights 2. IGN has some stunning concept art on display, showing the various locales players can expect to visit whilst on their quest. However, we remind our readers that unfortunately, the game doesn't look quite as detailed as the art. Hopefully, the majesty featured in these stills will find its way into the spirit of the game's storytelling.

Valhalla Knights 2 feels primitive in new vid

Valhalla Knights 2 is striking PSP later this year. RPG fans may be glad to get a brand new game to play on the handheld, but we can't help but feel underwhelmed by the presentation. After games like Crisis Core have spoiled us with its lush visuals and plentiful voice acting, we have to say that this looks a bit ... primitive. The N64-era textures certainly don't help either.

More Norse than before, Valhalla Knights 2 screens

If you didn't get the chance to play the Valhalla Knight 2 Japanese demo, then better do so now. If you don't have time to play demos, then check out these screenshots from the game instead. You do have time to do that, right?

Anyway, there are shots of the CG cinematics and some battle pics. Also check out that Japanese box art. The game comes out in Japan on May 29.

Valhalla Knights 2 downloadable demo

Time to get your Japanese skills back in action, as another downloadable Japanese demo is available for your enjoyment. Valhalla Knights 2 continues this PSP-exclusive RPG franchise. This demo should give you a small taste.

1. Download the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy ULJS00138 folder into the GAME directory. Make sure there are no sub-directories in this folder.

XSEED inks Marvelous deal, Valhalla Knights II confirmed

Sometimes one set of hands just isn't enough to bring games stateside. At least, that's the thinking over at niche game publisher XSEED, which just signed a co-publishing deal with Harvest Moon virtuoso Marvelous Entertainment. The pair note that the agreement will help let Marvelous set up shop here in the US, while XSEED will help localize "key" titles from the Japanese studio.

While the news makes us think that we'll soon be up to our eyeballs in farming sims, XSEED has only thus far confirmed that it will help localize Valhalla Knights II, though the companies note that additional game announcements will follow shortly. The sequel to last year's PSP action RPG Valhalla Knights is expected to ship this fall, with XSEED marketing guru Ken Berry stating belief that the game "will help to set the quality standard high for all future games coming out of this deal." That's certainly a lofty expectation for a sequel to a game that was largely panned by critics last year.

XSEED and Marvelous join in co-publishing agreement

PSP fans will be familiar with both Marvelous Entertainment and XSEED Games. Both have been key supporters of the PSP through a number of niche games for the handheld. The two companies have announced a new partnership, in which XSEED will support Marvelous Entertainment in bringing their titles over to North America. Valhalla Knights 2 for the PSP will be the first title to be released under this partnership, which is scheduled to launch in Fall 2008.

Valhalla Knights 2 is a follow-up to the previous PSP-exclusive action RPG. The sequel adds new races, job classes, weapons, magic spells, foes, armor, and more. Players will be able to partake in real-time 6 on 6 battles. The game supports 2 player ad-hoc network play, which enables co-op and versus modes.

Expect more details on Valhalla Knights 2 and other titles from this partnership in the future.

Imports: Pre-order Valhalla Knights 2, get soundtrack

If you live in Japan (most probably not) and plan on picking up Valhalla Knights 2, you might want to pre-order and grab the free soundtrack bonus offer. Titled "Sounds of Valhalla Knights," the soundtrack contains 20 songs from the game, and most of which come from former Square Enix sound editor, Shohiro Nakaoka. Nakaoka has worked as a sound editor on such games as Final Fantasy XII, Front Mission 4, and Xenogears.

For those non-Japanese interested in getting this sequel to the fantasy-themed RPG Valhalla Knights, we're hoping that your favorite import sites will carry the pre-order bonus. If not, there's always Ebay.
